  1. GOD SPEED R.I.P.
  2. Great Pictures nice to see.
  3. GREAT JOB Dave way to work for your dreams.
  4. Most department don't want to admit that they are having manpower issues. If you are having manpower issues call the M/A right away.Get them on the road right away you can always send them back if not needed. Officer's should leave RIT/FAST teams in place for they are there for our safety.
  5. 24/72 great shift. 48/96 not good idea for many reasons.
  6. I heard some place in the northeast useing a Flying squad in a central location. 1 Officer/3FF 24/7/365 responding to something like 5 small communities.Their rig was small.but versitile. I don't know if it was county based or not. don't know how it could work here. Something to think about.
  7. Here We Go Again, turned into paid/volley issue again. Nobody wins. Because you cannot change things in your town or how you operate on this forum. All this ever does is give the people who run this forum a headache. Just my two cent.
  8. I have noticed that with the adding of mattedales and large diameter hose. We had more of this happen. When we pulled all our hose from the back. I remember only dropping hose once and that was after forgetting to tye the 3" gated wye and hydrate wrench with the hose lighter to the crosse rail. I have seen 5" hose being lifted by air flow getting under the hose at highway speed when the hose was not packed right. adding hosebed covers and not overpacking the mattedales ie [100'/200'] have stopped this.
  9. AS much as I Hate to say it,This is a Career VS Volunteer issue. when you have a combined dept or add career staff there will never ever be respect, on both side of the fence. There is no trust between the two systems. I have seen it first hand working in the Greenwich Fire Dept for over twenty years.Career staff want Four firefigters on a rig to operate safely in a timely manner. And what is wrong with that. And the Volunteers want to still help their community and there is nothing wrong with that. If it is run in a organized manner.Anybody saying any different is only fooling themself's and trying to fool the community in which they serve. The Ego's only care about themselfs not the firefigther who has to turn the corner with the knob or cut the roof or the public who they are swore to protect. These power struggles only make things harder for all party's. Maybe Belltown Fire was right keep them separated and everybody do their jobs to the best they can.Everbody shoud read Goldfedner[ ie:THE SECRET LIST]take on staffing it is what we all should be trying to do any way.Sorry to say it but we will never ever agree.
  10. I think He works in my dept.I am almost sure of it. I will put water on it.
  11. Haveing worked for 7 career and 6 volunteer chiefs in my time in the fire service. I can say maybe 21 is a little young just for a maturity level. but I have worked for some the biggest idiots you could ever believe and age has nothing to do with it.If it wasn't for the line officer's and the guy's on the floor to hold together the day to day the whole place would fall apart. The ages ranged from mid twenty's to as old as early seventy's only one or two were good the rest should have been fired or let go in my twenty+ years. But we all know what politics does to the fire service.
  12. Saw a photo on firenews.org this week there are dept that still train on them. I had the pleasure to train on one 30 yrs ago. It took alot of upper body to work the thing. but it was a gas.
  13. Between the promotional screw up, the F.B.I. rats both admid and vermon type. The guys on the floor must really love the JOB. Hudson144 your are better men for sticking it out than the city knows.
  14. On the career vs volunteer topic both sides don't play well in the sand box. Just close this topic. And move on to thing that can help us all Just My 2.5 cents
  15. Will the raid on city hall by the FBI have any impact on the promotions. As if it was't bad enough before, now the Feds are in city hall. Hang tough hudson144 it's got to get better
  16. From the past Banksville puts on one of the best wet downs in the area. and I have attended a few of them. All I can say at one of them is a triaxel, Hanker's farm water and baysurfing. See if some of the older members remember the Event
  17. After seeing the thewatchdesk site know I know why this is being done by Seth.It may take a little more effort. This show's the Admid is trying to keep a quailty site for all to use.
  18. GREAT POST THANK YOU ckroll
  19. Because pentax2839, we are firefighters. We are not normal. You could go to any firehouse in the country spend a little time there and hear the same thing over and over again. We are good at beating a dead horse because we just get to revive it and do it all over again. We just love to push the envelope. We should act as if the EMTBRAVO Admin are Chiefs these are their S.O.P.'s or S.O.G's. We know if you freelance, people get hurt. It is the will of the Admid to do it JUST DO IT. THANK YOU ALL.
  20. This place I would say is ballon frame it is allso a railroad flat. common center hall common stair well apartments run front to back. with out seeing the other sides it is a an assumtion.which we alll know makes an a$$ out of me . As Chief Dunn would say know your bluilding types
  21. Nothing good can come Bars and Firehouses. Rental Halls where there is B.Y.O.B in Firehouses can generate income to off set the cost of doing business ie saveing taxpayer dollars.
  22. It is sad when ego's play politics. Any good will between career and volunteer has been jeopardize. When we run short the only people that suffer are ourselves[career and volunteer] and the general public. It is a NO WIN for anyone. The damage has been done and it will take a long time to fix what has been done. I guess it is OK for politics and ego's to kill and injury people. It is a sad day in Stamford fire service.
  23. Most I/C's must remember that RIT/FAST teams are to be used for that function only. RIT/FAST teams have their own size up/ reconning and set up to do. They are there to rescue the down firefighter not to be used for attack or vent teams they are not extra. Calling in M/A Companys to do RIT/FAST is better than none at all.It is difficult at best when you run short of manpower for the I/C to try not to use these teams.Training for this should be done as much as possible as with all aspects of our job even if it is just going over the equipment.
