  7. TAMPA, Fla. -- One day after Bob Sheppard said that he was looking forward to announcing games at the new Yankee Stadium, The New York Times reported that Sheppard was planning to retire instead. Paul Doherty, a friend and agent who has represented Sheppard, told the Times that Sheppard's son, Paul, told him about Sheppard's plans on Wednesday morning. The Yankees denied the report, stating that Sheppard continues to be their official public-address announcer. "We have spoken to Paul Sheppard, and he was very clear to us that the report made is categorically untrue," said Yankees director of public relations Jason Zillo. "Paul Sheppard has not said anything remotely like that." http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news/articl...sp&c_id=nyy Looks like he is staying
  8. According to even the times article Bob has said he is not done yet, Hopefully we will get one more year from that great voice, is he still doing the giant games over the PA. I know he used to not to sure if he retiered from there. right from the times article Despite Doherty’s disclosure, Sheppard, who has been the P.A. announcer for the Yankees since 1951, declined to say that he was retiring. When asked if he was officially leaving the position, Sheppard said, “I never said it.”

  10. By Wayne Drash CNN.com Senior Producer BOSTON, Massachusetts (CNN) -- The U.S. Army says it will honor the "heroism and sacrifice" of 350 U.S. soldiers who were held as slaves by Nazi Germany during World War II. The decision by the Army effectively reverses decades of silence about what the soldiers endured in the final months of the war in 1945 at Berga an der Elster, a subcamp of Buchenwald where soldiers were beaten, starved, killed and forced to work in tunnels to hide German equipment. http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/12/23/slave.camp.honor/index.html All I can say is ITS ABOUT TIME

  15. The rest of the world cannot understand how after bitter election campaigns, American politicians can return to reality. For Instance Sarah Palin has invited to her great state of Alaska the men who defeated her, Barack Obama and Joe Biden. She has provided a moose hunting trip for their enjoyment and has hired two other prominent men to assist them. Dick Cheney will instruct them in safe gun handling and Ted Kennedy will drive them back to their cabins in the evening. What a gal, that Sarah is such a sport and thinks of everything.
  16. This whole thread is a perfect example of monkey see monkey do
  17. I think it’s just a waste of talent to have the Executive Detail all Detectives. I would guess there are at least 12 Detectives in the detail. I think to have those Detectives available to help solve crimes would be more productive and having the rank of Police Officer be able to serve on the detail. This post was put up before I read 20y2 post. 20y2 you have made it clear to me now thank you.

  19. Yankee Stadium should keep its name. Why name our ball park after a corprate sponser. Keep it Yankee Stadium the way it should be. It is only one of 4 Stadiums that still has its orginal name. Proud Yankee fan since 1974
  20. let me ask a question? If a fellow brother or sister at work just came in for there 3day 24 hour shift and this person just noticed that they left their wallet home all credit cards and a cash. Now they have no money for meals, would you lend them some bank or would that be enabling them?
  21. Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown, and Irvington are waiting to hear from the State to see if they are getting a 75,000 dollar grant to start a Tri-Village emergency plan. It will be interesting to see if this will be just your run of the mill plan or if they will actually put some effort into it. As of right now Sleepy Hollow follows the County's emergency plan. One thing i find interesting is Sleepy Hollow has an agrement with a local supermarket for water if something was to happen to there water supply. The person I intereviewd for school about the emergency plan did not elaborate much on this. But I was wondering if other Villages have a simialr agreement.
  22. I am not an overly religious person, but when I received this email today it made me think of this post. I think its fitting to post it under this subject. 'MEET ME IN THE STAIRWELL' You say you will never forget where you were when you heard the news On September 11, 2001. Neither will I. I was on the 110th floor in a smoke filled room with a man who called his wife to say 'Good-Bye.' I held his fingers steady as he dialed. I gave him the peace to say, 'Honey, I am not going to make it, but it is OK..I am ready to go.' I was with his wife when he called as she fed breakfast to their children. I held her up as she tried to understand his words and as she realized he wasn't coming home that night. I was in the stairwell of the 23rd floor when a woman cried out to Me for help. 'I have been knocking on the door of your heart for 50 years!' I said. 'Of course I will show you the way home - only believe in Me now.' I was at the base of the building with the Priest ministering to the injured and devastated souls. I took him home to tend to his Flock in Heaven. He heard my voice and answered. I was on all four of those planes, in eve ry seat, with every prayer. I was with the crew as they were overtaken. I was in the very hearts of the believers there, comforting and assuring them that their fait h has saved them. I was in Texas, Virginia, California, Michigan, and Afghanistan. I was standing next to you when you heard the terrible news. Did you sense Me? I want you to know that I saw every face. I knew every name - though not all know Me. Some met Me for the first time on the 86th floor. Some sought Me with their last breath. Some couldn't hear Me calling to them through the smoke and flames; 'Come to Me... this way... take my hand.' Some chose, for the final time, to ignore Me. But, I was there. I did not place you in the Tower that day. You may not know why, but I do. However, if you were there in that explosive moment in time, would you have reached for Me? Sept. 11, 2001, was not the end of the journey for you. But someday your journey will end. And I will be there for you as well. Seek Me now while I may be found. Then, at any moment, you know you are 'ready to go.' I will be in the stairwell of your final moments. God

  24. And then the Fight Started... When I got home last night, my wife demanded that I take her someplace expensive....so, I took her to a gas station..... and then the fight started.... ********************************************************* I tried to talk my wife into buying a case of Milller Light for $14.95. Instead, she bought a jar of cold cream for $7.95. I told her the beer would make her look better at night than the cold cream. And that's when the fight started... ************************************************************************ After retiring, I went to the Social Security office to apply for Social Security. The woman behind the counter asked me for my driver's license to verify my age. I looked in my pockets and realized I had left my wallet at home. I told the woman that I was very sorry, but I would have to go home and come back later. The woman said, 'Unbutton your shirt'. So I opened my shirt revealing my curly silver hair. She said, 'That silver hair on your chest is proof enough for me' and she processed my Social Security application. When I got home, I excitedly told my wife about my experience at the Social Security office. She said, 'You should have dropped your pants. You might have gotten disablity, too' And then the fight started..... *********************************************************************** My wife and I were sitting at a table at my high school reunion, and I kept staring at a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sat alone at a nearby table. My wife asked, 'Do you know her?' 'Yes,' I sighed, 'She's my old girlfriend. I understand she took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear she hasn't been sober since.' 'My God!' says my wife, 'Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?' And then the fight started..... ************************************************************ I rear-ended a car this morning. So, there we were alongside the road and slowly the other driver got out of his car. You know how sometimes you just get soooo stressed and little things just seem funny? Yeah, well I couldn't believe it.... he was a DWARF!!! He stormed over to my car, looked up at me, and shouted, 'I AM NOT HAPPY!!!' So, I looked down at him and said, 'Well, then which one are you?' And that's how the fight started..... ************************************************************************ I took my wife to a restaurant. The waiter, for some reason, took my order first. 'I'll have the strip steak, medium rare, please.' He said, 'Aren't you worried about the mad cow?' 'Nah, she can order for herself.' And that's how the fight started..... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Psssst...Have you heard the news?
