  2. Lets refer back to the post by our good friend and respected memeber efdcapt115, the link to the Daily News and someone else posted the same to the Post. States that NYPD has most likely the capability to shoot down a crop duster NOT a commerical airliner. So all the reference to the DoD and all claimed legal responses to shooting a aircraft refer to Commercial airlines not private owned aircraft.

  3. Rather a trivial issue...

Should Chief's cars markings say "Incident Command" instead, with Chief de-emphasized or deleted?

In my opinion, Chief is kind of an old school term. Especially when you have departments with 3 or 4 vehicles marked as "Chief".

As far as public perception and modernization on this issue, wouldn't "Incident Command" or "Incident Commander" more accurately relflect not only the role the person driving the vehicle, but the vehicle's purpose as well.

Must be a slow day in Round Rock LOL. No dont think so he may not always be IC.

  4. So by some peoples thinking here every Muslim is part of Al-Qaeda, so then by that reason every Italian is in the Mafia; every Irish person is a drunk; every Mexican is a border jumper.

If that is the train of thought some of you have? I find that very embarrassing that people in 2011 think this way. Yes I understand their beliefs and there way of life, and I am sure there are many that follow the religion but do not follow Sharia law. How many of you are Roman Catholic and how many of you follow the Ten Commandments.

  5. Haha. I think you're the only person I've ever heard that thinks the Ops bridge is a GOOD place to hide. And, trust me, it's no "Ivory Tower." If you go up there during the day the temperature control works fine. I worked nights for over 3 years, and I can tell you first hand that the AC works great in the dead of winter at 2am, and vice versa in the summer, never mind the constant construction that happens up there. Part of the temperature problem is being fixed in the terminal, though. If you notice the south public entrance is closed during the daytime. Each of the entrances is being renovated with new doors and air curtains to help curtail entering/exiting heat. We are unable to get larger AC units on the roof at this time because the current duct system cannot support the necessary airflow.

As far as your "hiding" joke, unfortunately I have to take something like that seriously. The FAA and TSA are constantly combing over HPN. Plus, you can't tell when people are being serious or facetious when reading text on the internet, so don't get bummed out when people don't get your joke.

Not bummed out at all, and I have no problem telling when people are joking on here, just cant take to many things serious or personal on here sometimes. Thanks for the AC info, for four years we have been asking whats up with the AC and heat all we are ever told is we are working on it, typical County BS.

  6. calhobs As for someone who works there please tell me where this extra space is, I really need a new place to hide from my boss. They are doing some major consonstuction over the next 3-5 years, but this should of been done 5 years ago by time they are done I think it will still be tight in the terminal, I just hope they put in some new AC in terminal very soon they reallly need it.

First of all, why would you announce that you need a new place to hide? And why are you insinuating that you already hide? YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HIDING!!! And if I find you hiding I will flush you out and tell your supervisor because hiding on an airport is dangerous and against federal security regulations. As for the AC problem, we're working on it. We have a hundred other problems to take care of, and we'll get to it when we get there.

Sigh... sometimes people just dont get a joke. But since you opend the can of worms maybe you guys up in the Ivory Tower there in OPS should move the AC and Heating problem up to number one of one hundred. Because your fellow employees and paying public roast during the summer and freeze during the winter in the terminal. It is funny how when I went up to Ops the other day when it was 90 degrees in the Terminal and it was nice and cool up there. In the winter when it s 40 degrees in the terminal its a nice 72 in Ops.

Oh by the way dont worry about me hiding becasue my SIDA does not get me into OPs, thats the only place worth hiding .

  7. With all the extra space they have in the terminal now they could put in Customs and Immigration stations without a problem.

I'm amazed that they're doing direct flights from Westchester.

Now if they could just figure out what to do with all the cars that will need parking.

  8. If you are going to arrest the kids pulling the alarm at this type of facility then shouldn't they arrest the kids that pull them in all buildings? It has the same possible outcomes(accident while responding, someone getting killed etc...), makes no difference where the pull station was be it a school, mall, hospital or a juvy housing unit.

I cant speak for other schools but the schools in my district will not turn over the kids that pull alarms for whatever reasons.

  9. Calhobs:

When you went union, did you add yourself to an existing local, or become your own? If you are your own, you are broke because you have not voted on dues. If that is the case and you wish to remain broke, then vote to have no dues. If you want to be able to buy stuff, like stamps for mailing, a PO box for getting mail etc, then vote a small amount, like a buck a week/member.

I am less familiar with unionizing into an existing local. If that happened, and YOUR job is bigger than the one you are partnered with then your guys have a lot of clout (assuming you are united) and can cast a majority of votes to get stuff done. If your site is a minority in the new local, maybe you can vote to split off and be your own local. Your national can help you make these choices and get this stuff done.

No one is going to feed you money. If you want something, you are a buyer, and what you want needs to be paid for. Sounds like the local you are with did not want to pay, and they have nothing, and are likely un-united and weak- a managment day dream.

I would like to help you if I can. That's what we do.

    Bill

Heard rumor that there is problems with the officers at the local, thats why they are broke. We are getting little pieces of info daily. But if you notice more then half of the employees did not vote, may tell you something about both unions.

  10. Its best to join the union, afterall there is strength in numbers and the more "members" you have, the better leverage your union will have at the bargaining table. If the local is broke as you say, the increase in membership will eventually help the local since it will mean more dues. I'm not sure if the agency fee payer rule applies in this instance since your Public Sector - Federal Government; however if you don't join, you will not have a voice nor a vote on things such as contracts, leadership, union sponsored training or any other non-contractual benefits they may offer.

I'm curious, is the union by chance AFGE?

Yes it as as you see Chris posted the new article.

  11. Well, ask yourself this question, lets say you join, and down the road they ask you to be involved in a job action which could be sickout, protest, strike, etc. Would you oblige ??? If your answer is already question mark then you may have your answer.

Cant do any of those I am a Federal employee we will be fired.

  12. We just voted on a union to represent us here at work. I work for the Federal Govt. The union will be representing us nationwide. Being a federal employee we come under the Right to Work Act were we do not have to join if we do not want to. My question is would you join a union that the local representing you was broke? Meaning they have no money. How broke you ask? So broke the President of the local can not even drive up to Westchester to meet with us.

  13. It doesn't have to be a small plane, either. It could be a large frame aircraft, especially now with Southwest and jetBlue flying A320's and Boeing 737's into Westchester's approach and departure airspace. I pray it never happens, but anything could.

Look at what happened in Far Rockaway in 2001:

  14. They did the same thing in 1994 when the Rangers beat them, and I really dont think that Bruin fans would of rioted if they lost, Redsox fans never rioted when the Yankees knocked them out of the playoffs. There was really no police presence whem the rioting started, I think if you have a crowd that big in the area you would have tons of security there but they didnt. They never learned from the last time.

  15. Both cases here start to make you think, how often does this happen, how many times does this go unreported. Maybe it is about time to start looking at our own Departments and wonder how we treat our members. Is our own hazing (which at is a nice word for bullying) the death to us. With three issues alone to come to light this year this is not just isolated incidents this seems to be a big problem. Its no longer proper to say "man up" or "dont have such thin skin". When your Department ends up paying millions in law suits or someone starts serving time do you then want to be told "man up" or "dont have such thin skin". The next step we are going to see is a Brother or Sister firefighter killing themself because the hazing has gotten to much. Then how will we react. I am not talking about good hearted ribbing and joking with each other, we are adults and you would think we know the line not to cross. But when it turns into harassment, abuse and assulat it has crossed the line to being illgel.

  16. Never thought of using that! I'm bringing that up at the next meeting, as for speculation on why she crawled... no idea. wasn't on scene, but was at the debriefing. No one seems to know. The hunch seems to be from a withdrawl of drugs...

It’s not always drug withdrawal, many times it is due to shock and the patent not thinking straight due to there injuries. It is the same reason why people in Hypothermia strat to take there clothes off.

  17. Apparently, the Journal News is selling, because they are downsizing.

It says they don't have printing operations there anymore- where do they print the Journal News? And I guess a newsroom is old news.

I know the internet has challenge the newspaper industry, but I've seen Gannet completly abandon communities and still publish a paper there.

A memo sent Thursday night from Mike Fisch, publisher of The Journal News in Westchester, N.Y., revealed the latest round of restructuring at the Gannett-owned newspaper.

The paper will close its printing plant, leading to the elimination of 166 full- and part-time employees in production and packaging.

According to the memo, which Fisch confirmed to Gannettoid.com was from him, The Journal News, the Poughkeepsie Journal and other commercial clients will begin printing in Rockaway, N.J., effective with all editions dated March 8, 2010.

I remeber about a year ago when they annoucned that the building was for sale, they were looking to contract the printing out or share printing with another news paper, but they never gave any other insight.
