  2. Damn right they should be concerned ! How many GPM can the pickup pump and does it have a stick, articulating boom or a snorkel in that pickup. Incompetent management !
  3. Hundreds of firefighters picket City Hall Mark Schlueb Orlando Sentinel Staff Writer June 15, 2009 Firefighters from across Florida picketed Orlando City Hall on Monday to pressure Mayor Buddy Dyer to kill a plan to lay off public safety workers. An estimated 250 Orlando firefighters were bolstered by about 400 from out of town, who were bused in from a state firefighter convention on International Drive. They were joined by several dozen Orlando police officers and other workers who face the loss of their jobs. Dyer has proposed eliminating about 10 percent of the city's work force — including laying off 222 employees — to avoid a budget deficit projected at $43.5 million next year. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/...0,3285929.story

  6. The first one will probably go into service during the later part of June.
  7. NYC Transit has a bunch of the Orion VII L/F hybrids. Westchester bought 4 Orions in 2006 and has been testing them since. They worked out well. Hence, the 95 bus NABI order. Bus #205 is the pilot bus with the production order coming down the line now. Buses will start to go into service this summer.
  8. Same length (40'), same width (8 1/2') as our standard buses are now. A bit taller (11'5") due to the batteries on the roof. We'll get them thru the streets with no problems.
  9. That appears to be a standard 60' (+ or -) articulated bus. Can't tell the manufacturer. I assume that it was converted to medical facilities on the interior. I don't get the idea of a helicopter landing on the roof. Must be significantly reinforced with steel. BTW - Nice comments by the public in the discussion board after the article.
  10. Early '70's at a working fire. Victim was found in the bathtub on the second floor. Several of us dragged him out to the porch and initiated CPR. Victim survived.....but I broke two of his ribs. Haven't broke any more ribs since. Whew !!!
  11. Flew Westchester to Orlando a couple of weeks ago for $ 69.....and I booked about a week before that. Be smart when you look for prices....check several times a day and, most importantly, late at night. prices do change based upon booking for particular flights.
  12. Some factual information about Schenectady: Popoulation: 61,531 Sworn Officers: 198 Officer per 1,000: 2.52 US Avg. 3.00 Crime Index 537.5 US Avg. 320.9 Mt. Vernon Comparrison (similar size): Popoulation: 67,882 Sworn Officers: 183 Officer per 1,000: 2.70 US Avg. 3.00 Crime Index 380.4 US Avg. 320.9 Me thinx that the mayor has another agenda. I have no problem with consolidation or regionalization. However, say what it is. Don't come in thru the backdoor with an agenda.
  13. The bloated costs are on the local level. Do we really need 5 villages and an unincorporated area of the Town of Greenburgh ?...and add to that three fire departments with 5 stations who mirror each other and serve the better part of Greenburgh ? Do we really need a Rye and Rye Brook government.....and a Pelham and Pelham Manor (There used to be 3 villages in the Town of Pelham.....so I guess that is progress. And how many fire departments are there in Westchester and how many apparatus do we have. School districts are simply out of control.....have been and will continue to be. Consolidate them on a regional or county basis like they do in many other states. Let's look in a mirror and determine where regionalzation and consolidation works to save costs.
  14. Another graduate of the "Green Lane" school of driving excellence.
  15. My recollection is that Greenville FD was the first fire department in Westchester to have a Hurst tool. Probably around 1975. When County Fire Control was at Parkway PD HQ, we used to dispatch mutual aid frequently for pin jobs. The "tool" surely beat the old "port-a-power."
  16. Will probably not pass......and if it does and is challenged, will probably be thrown out in court.
  17. Put an antenna in a valley and not on a ridge ? Hhhhmmmmmm !
  18. EVERYONE will get sued !!!
  19. OMG Chris ! I hope that you copied and pasted that !!!
  20. Yep....with two Equals and a bit of half & half, please !
  21. When I was Chief and responded to incidents on I-84, upon arriving at the scene, I would always seek out the Trooper. I would tell him what we had (from the fire/EMS perspective), what we needed to do and approximately how long it would take. Generally, in order to make a safe scene, I would shut down all lanes for as short a period of time as possible. I would deploy fire police to the preceeding exit to direct exiting traffic from the interstate. I would then use available equipment tand apparatus to close the traffic lanes including the shoulder of the road. Once the scene was under control, I would again speak to the trooper, ask him to block the one lane closest to the incident and then open up one lane of traffic. At the conclusion of the incident, ambulance aside, all FD apparatus and equipment would leave at the same time. I never had a problem with a Trooper. I always found that communication was the best policy. BTW - If it is going to be an extended operation, don't be afraid to ask the Trooper to have the Thruway Authority respond with maintenance trucks for blocking purposes. Generally they are more than happy to respond. PS - The guys from Thruway Traffic Control are nuts. Don't ignore them, feel their pain, but explain to them what you need to do and an ETA as to when the highway can be reopened.
