Mount Vernon FD Foam 1 circa 1970. I believe that this was a 1947 Seagrave. Photo courtesy Joe Pinto.

A salute to the veterans from all nations who stormed the shores of Normandy 68 years ago today. You saved the world from tyranny.

Exterior ads on buses and taxis are OK. But, I'm not sure that I want a motorist reading an ad on the side of a fire truck while the apparatus has lights and sirens blaring while it is rushing to a call. You want ads on fire apparatus when it is performing inspection duties or is on the way to the shop ? That's OK. But not while in emergency service.

Do I dare say that it is time for government intervention ?

It was CFC 121. 2 rigs, full crew, 1 boss. 70 also had a tele squrt.
.....and the "squirt" wound up in Lake Carmel as 17-5-1.

If by hog, do you mean reduce unnecessary 911 calls and subsequent transports? If so, I say good!
Absolutely ! Urgent care centers reduce the demand for EMS, unclog the ER passenger waiting line and reduce health costs.
Yep......sounds like a good plan to me !

Hats off to the Allen Park City Council for providing an answer BEFORE they ask the question !

Why don't they donate the ones thats in the worst condition to one of the local FD's so they can train off of it. For example: Like Kyle said above, one thats listed as "do not start, etc" take the good parts out, and let FD light it on fire (or anything else) and train off of it. One like that with just seats/body on it will probably just be junked, why not use it to train?
Not to start any debate anything, just my thoughts..
Enter the lottery and do just that.

Thank you, Trooper, for protecting my life and those of my family everyday.

I have seen them on http://www.auctionsi...l.com/index.htm a lot! However, I guess they are beaten to death and then used for parts since they are listed as "do not start or run". The photos that come with the listing also show them in terrible shape.
The retired paratransit vans are not "beaten to death." They are not canalbolized for parts.
The vans have accumulated several hundred thousand miles and are no longer cost effective to maintain in regular service. The ones available for the van giveaway program are the best of the vehicles retired.

Which brings me to my next question. Where do the regular transit buses go at the end of their Bee Line life? Those would be even better for rehab.
Full size Bee-Line buses that have been retired from service are auctioned and sold. The last buses replaced, 1994-95 bstandard size (40 foot) buses were sold to the MTA.

I don't know if these buses are maintained by Bee-Line mechanics as well, but if they were then they usually are in great shape.
They were.

Dick Clark's legacy began in Mount Vernon, New York. Along with his first wife, he was a graduate of A.B. Davis High School (which at the time, was the only High School in Mount Vernon). Rest In Peace Mr. Clark
A B Davis HS on Gramatan Ave. was not the only high school in Mount Vernon. Edison Vocational Technical High School on South 3rd Ave.

The proposed reduction of 26 FF's and 10 officers will result in the closing of how many companies ?

The state has a hard time explaining the benefits of mass transit in the NYC suburbs to the rest of its constituents. So they continue to cut the money for the MTA in the state budget. One stop gap was this payroll tax on any community served by the MTA. There was also an MTA tax on vehicle registration recently to bail the MTA out of a hole the state dropped the ball on.
.......and the County must contribute over $ 25,000,000 a year to the MTA for Metro-North Station Maintenance and general railroad operating costs.

Traffic Management Center... believe it's run by the State Department of Transportation, responsible for traffic conditions on the highways (MVA's, Disabled Vehicles, Lane Closures for various reasons, etc.)
Not quite. It is the Transportation Management Center.
