EASTCHESTER - A two-alarm house fire on Old Wilmot Road is out, after Eastchester firefighters spent more than three hours on the scene this morning.

No one was injured in the 151 Old Wilmot Rd. fire, which was reported at 4:31 a.m., said Lt. William Curran, Eastchester police.

The fire was under control by 7 a.m., but firefighters and investigators were still on the scene at 9:20 a.m.

The residents got out safely, police said. The blaze apparently started in the basement. Its cause was not immediately available. Old Wilmot Road, off the Hutchinson River Parkway, may be closed this morning for the investigation, Curran said.

One-car accident injures driver on S/B I-684 near Hutch

    By NICOLE NEROULIAS

    THE JOURNAL NEWS

    (Original publication: December 13, 2007)

HARRISON - A one-car accident injured a man on Interstate 684 near the Hutchinson River Parkway early today.

The sedan, a Nissan Altima, drove off southbound I-684 and crashed into the center median at around 1:45 a.m. The driver was extricated and taken by STAT flight helicopter to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla at 2:24 a.m.

"He was pinned in the vehicle by the guard rail," said Sgt. Joseph Crispino, state police. "It was a matter of getting the guard rail cut apart to get him out of the vehicle."

State police said the driver suffered a broken leg and lacerations, and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. He was alert and conscious as he was extricated from the vehicle by Purchase and Harrison firefighters, Crispino added.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.

  7. First, and foremost, the role everyone plays - be it firefighter, police officer or EMT/Medic. Now, i think by instinct there are a few reasonable situations where people would overstep the bounds of their profession. Now, i'm not talking about a FF taking down a perp or a police officer intubating or EMS putting out a fire. If i was at work, working as an EMT, and was dispatched to a scene and i happen to see smoke pouring out of that residence, i have to admit that it would be difficult to simply sit there and wait until the FD responded. I think the same may apply in the case previously described. Now, i don't know anything about dry chemical extinguishers and if they pose a particular health threat or problem, but it sounds as though they were simply trying to do the right thing. I've heard a number of times where POs are o/s prior to FD arrival and will expend whatever available extinguishers. As far as blocking the road and hydrant, there probably should have been some forethought no doubt.

thats understood, but a decision needs to be made when the situational awareness is such that the best action may be to clear the building and simply locate the fire. The ABC attempt is gallent but in most cases ineffective. Have the cops clear the area and allow people with suppression skills the space to work.

"I'm Never Going To See A Fire!

So, last night my group was working, and I took the night off.

And what happens? Engine 170 goes to Fairview for a working fire.

I am a cursed white cloud. This has happened to me before, it seems whenever I take off, or am off or away, there is a fire.

I am aware that fires come in spurts, and I have 19 more years left on the job, but still it's quite annoying. I don't want anyone's property or lives to be in danger, nor am I wishing that.....I just would hope that when it does happen, it would coincide with my work schedule.

Very aggravated. Oh well though, I enjoyed my night off at least. And at least it wasn't a E170 or E169 first due fire."

SETH HOW WAS YOUR 1ST JOB IN HARTSDALE?
