They kept saying one career firefighter on one fire engine shows up and they are correct. What they are not doing is finishing the rest of the story . When I got hired we had 16 strong career with 400 Volunteers with about 300 give or take and the rest [ 100 ]the older members . The Career staff runs Engine 58 and Engine 59 . When a call came in on the fire phone the firefighter at HQ answered the call and got the info . When it was determined whos call it was [ Eng58 lower Port Chester ] with most of the work or Eng 59 with more area but less work [ mostly bedroom  but some very large buildings [ General  foods 1900 by 500 ] and so on . If it was 58's call he would stop talking and the Sta. 4 firefighter [ Eng 59 ]would get the rest of the info with 58 hitting the road mostly in 60 or so sec. I pulled up to many working fires to find Volunteer firefighters either already standing there or in the building looking for people or the fire . Engine 58 & 59 have 800 gallon tanks and preconnect  lines more scotts to handle the guys already on location .the firefighters would take the lines in and starting to attack the fire . As a rule we did not hit hydrants but had the tools to do so . The next in engine would supply 58 or 59 .That is what was taken away from the dept .

The 3  stooge's in charge have asked the captains for a list of volunteers that will work over night   to cover the Rye Brook station . 5 of the 7 company's so far have turned them down with no answer from the other 2 .

It was obvious from the start that no Village Board would have done this without assurances from the Volunteers, that they could pick up the duties of the Paid Firefighters and fulfill the Rye Brook contract. How many of the Vollies are AFL-CIO or Teamster members . How could they be party to putting fellow Union members and their families"out in the street". Remember the Port Chester local is part of the AFL-CIO

As a member of local 1971 [ retired ]   and a 44 year member of the PCFD . It's not about the firefighters it's about the community we live in and the safety of the residents  that now  are at risk . Most of you guys know me and know that during my career I had my share of fires over the years many and I mean many that I pulled up to by myself.  Many voll pulled lines off my rig and started to attack the fire before the rest of the rigs got there . Now that element is lost  We worked together well and that my fellow firefighters is what made our dept work .

It is true and has been coming about for some time . Do any of you guys remember the time when North White Plains had there trouble  with there chief , well guess who's chief in Port Chester . Said day for my brothers in local 1971. We are a busy dept with no room for this and if anyone has driven in Port Chester lately you can see the village is booming with new housing

The Million Dollar Caper, if the money that rye brook pays port Chester each year does not pay for the service where does the money go. Swiss bank account , somebody is getting bulls...ted. To really put the icing on this cake the other day a brand new engine demo showed up at fire headquarters you should of scene the drooling going on .Don't believe this was done to save money. PERSONAL....

None of the three are capable of passing the test, nor any of the other requirements of becoming a professional firefighter.  Pure jealousy on their part, not one bit of logical thinking on their part. What next, maybe eliminating some of the volunteer apparatus and/or companies? They just opened the door for further reductions of the fire dept budget. "No new turnout gear for Brooksville, (just saying) We'll just have Mellor pick up the slack." Sounds crazy. You're effing right!  If any member of the Port Chester FD thinks the politicians care one iota about them, I have a nice new bridge in Tarrytown to sell to them, dirt cheap.

Any Career Firefighter from other Departments volunteering in Port Chester must resign forthwith, The volunteer members must ban together and think of a sane way to reverse this situation, as they hold the upper hand in this battle, Remember Port Chester is a densely populated compressed community with a high fire risk not some pristine Norman Rockwell community,

My hands are still shaking over this . I was at Gulliver's  and as you all know to well that it is the early stages of the fire  that are the most critical and that night  we through firefighters after firefighters at the rescue side of it and  saved over 100 but that was when Engine 58 had a 2 man crew and Engine 59 had a 2 man crew because there where 16 on the job and the Volunteer side had men hanging off the rigs because there where no seats left to sit in. Port Chester is a very busy dept  and the call volume will burn out the volunteers going to the small calls like CO ,trash, brush, car, and what ever in the middle of the night . One of the Chiefs is a member on here .

I wouldn't be calling PCFD ENG58 out over anything that is taken out of context on this site.  The guy devoted his whole life to the PCFD both with and without a paycheck.
