  1. Please refer to the flag by its proper name only, Gadsden flag. I has so much more meaning than being adopted by a political movement in modern times. Also the Navy Jack version is the rattlesnake and the wording over thirteen alternating red and white stripes. It was originally flown only on the oldest active wartime ship in service. This was changed to all navy ships to fly it after 9/11. (*)
  2. What is the starting salary and subsequent steps now? When I took the test way back when, it was fairly low. Also you had to live in the boroughs back then. I think everything was changed shortly after I was offered the job. (*)
  3. John, how big is your non-hydranted area in Croton? Just curious.
  4. Sorry, had to. Hope you all find the humor in it.
  5. Went on it's first call to 17 Hillhouse Ave shortly after being placed into service today. (*)
  6. The boat was built in 1984 but the news didn't have the model. I read that this style boat was only to have no more than 12 people On it. Still that many people on 34' boat is insane! Another needless set of deaths. (*)
  7. I want to drive an pump this beauty!! (*)
  8. I feel bad for the officer being injured in this attack. I hope he recovers quickly and I'm glad he did what was necessary to prevent this person from hurting anyone else. He did his job! Too often police officers get criticized for their actions when they are justified.
  9. Navistar is really pushing their MaxxForce engine now I see with the adds in various trade mags.
  10. If its archived then its locked and cannot be re-opened. Usually when you archive information, it is a very old post (under a specific time frame) and is taken off the main thread space. You can still review the information there but cannot add to it. Also like Chris stated, we can re-open a thread if someone wants to contribute more to it. The main reason older threads get locked (besides it being a default in the software) is because its a flag for when we decide to archive older posts down the line (which is usually a year or more time frame). There is no problem what so ever if someone wants to add to a locked thread or like Chris also said liking a new thread to the older one. Ask us and we'll help you out.
  11. Operated many trucks with Detroits and Cummins. I prefer Detroit but both are good engines. Now if Waukesha started making engines for fire trucks again..........
  12. In addition to what Alex said, all three fire districts (Center First Taxation, former Allingtown and West Shore) were all created before West Haven was incorporated a township in 1921. Prior to this, West Haven was part of Orange with some of the northern sections part of New Haven. The what is now the Center District FD pretty much encompassed the old borough boundaries of West Haven proper and that fire department was established around 1888. I believe the Center fire department was originally sponsored by the West have Borough government up until it was dissolved and West Haven became a town, thus the creation of the present fire district to fund it, this I have to research better. Allingtown Fire District was created in 1909 (two years after the formation of the volunteer fire association to help pay for their operations) and West Shore around 1912. If my history is correct, full-time paid staffing didn't start until the 1940s, I am unsure and have to check this, in the districts. When West Haven was incorporated a town, there was no need for the town charter to support a fire department since there were 3 fire districts covering the area withing the town boundaries. Same thing during the 1960s when West Haven was granted a city charter (town and city consolidated by CT state law) no provisions were added to the charter to establish a "city-wide" fire department since the three districts were in existence. Plus the demographics of West Haven have changed greatly over the years were original all three "villages" so to speak were considered a great distance from each other in the early days.
  13. They tried the "Public Safety Department" concept at my place and it failed miserably. I won't get into details but the "Public Safety Chief" was let go. We are back to a separate FD and PD respectively and both chiefs report to a public safety oversight committee.
  14. Thanks, I missed that post. (*)
  15. Yah right. Hope this guy doesn't have a medical on the highway and the ambulance is stuck at the toll because it's rush hour. MORON!
  16. Smokey Joe and CFI, I am not confused. The systems are similar where I am from. I come from Ansonia and still live here. I belong to the Ansonia Fire Department, a municipal city funded agency. I belong to the Charters Hose Company No. 4. My company is one of five five companies that make up the AFD. If I quit my company I am no longer a member of the department unless I join and am accepted into one of the other four entities after I apply to them. So it is the same as are the other departments that have similar set ups, such as Derby, Shelton, seymour and Vernon to name a few. The only difference CT is from NY is that our state allows for towns to have their own and fund fire departments through a charter change. Your villages and cities governments are the same as our boroughs and cities. But to get back on topic, I hope things work out for everyone involved and if there is any wrongdoing, it is rooted out and fixed. (*)
  17. So this guy quits the company, which is the organization that provides and sponsors fire protection services to the village / district and is upset that he can't be a firefighter anymore in the village. HE QUIT! Plain and simple, its like quitting a job, you can't continue to work there if your not part / employed but the organization that provides a service. He is not covered by the insurance anymore. Its not a hard thing to figure out. He took that step and he's out. Even if there was no "company" structure, if he quits the department he's no longer a member as an active firefighter. By reading this article, which by the way has holes large enough to drive the Super Pumper through it, he should have not quit in my opinion, should have stood his ground with the complaint he lodged while a member of the organization. Granted I don't know any of what is going on except by this article, there may be good reasons why he left. The harassment stated is very vague and obviously for his protection that things are not being let out. If he is a good a firefighter as you all say he is, I hope there is some justice for him. And maybe he can rejoin or go somewhere else. However, there are three sides to every story. We'll have to wait an see how this pans out.
  18. What is happening to old Tanker 10? Trade in or selling it?
  19. Alex, Ramapo is about the size of New Milford, CT in land mass and equal to the population of New Haven. It is one of five townships that make up Rockland County and some of the notable villages there are Suffern, Tallman, Spring Valley and Slatsberg.
  20. I see in the IA New Fairfield was called in, was Danbury called as well?

  22. We can all agree we are happy the Habs didn't even show up this season right???
  23. Jybehofd if you had read the news reports, during the investigation they were able to make contact with the owner of the boat with the name used. That boat was not sailing. Also there were boats in the area where the caller placed the distressed boat and they found nothing. Here is the time line from nj.com: http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2012/06/sandy_hook_boat_explosion_hoax.html This spells out everything from the time the call was received until the end of the operation
