Chappaqua mourns loss of 1st female firefighter to rare brain disease

The death of Muriel “Ace” Lipschitz to a rare and quick-striking brain disease has left a vacuum at the Chappaqua Fire Department, an all-volunteer organization that she helped transform 34 years ago when she became its first female member.

A check of the department’s computerized records over the last 18 years showed her responding to more 1,000 fire calls. During that time she also showed up to 400 meetings, 835 firehouse cleanup duties, 250 drills, and more than 1,800 other firehouse related events.

As an ex-member of this agency I can proudly say that I remember Ace vividly, and all the help she would offer to the department, myself, and others. It is a tragedy for CFD, the community, and any one who knew her to have to endure this loss.

May she rest in peace.
