  1. Nice looking rig... From the pictures I saw, I would recommend you keep an eye on the defroster... Croton's T 10 appears to have the same set up ( 1 center diffuser vent ) and during last winter while handling several runs, we had big issues with the windshield fogging up... Right now Seagrave is still looking into it, and they have a few months to figure it out, but I would keep it in mind and check yours...

  2. If wires come down in my town, and they are still energized, yes I will sit there and wait for Con Edison to show up and handle the problem.. why, ??? because I am doing what I can to protect my friends and neighbors... as soon as Con Ed is on the scene, it's theirs and we go... We do not stay there and direct traffic for them while they fix the problem... so why should it be any differnt down there ???

Yes, if called on I will gladly go down there or anywhere else to cover their fire dept. in a time of need, but I will not go there to direct traffic... Is NYSEG offering them the wages that would be paid to the normal flaggers ? I don't think so... Question then, would you see the Peekskill Police ( just picked them out of a hat, nothing personal ) send guys down there to do that and NOT get paid ??? I don't think so..

Anyone who thinks that volunteer fire/police should go do there and do it, please step to the front of the line and go there ( for free ) and do the job they are asking volunteers to do. There are plenty of PD and paid FD guys here, please lead the way and set an example...

  3. Hey all, we have a few older pieces of equipment laying around the fire house and I believe I can put together somthing for Tanker 10 to assist in bring water from a lake to the fill site engine. But I need a 5 inch storz to 6 inch male thread adapter. I do not want the Village to purchase this item if it does not work, so I am reaching out the the members here. If you have one and its not being used everyday, I would like to borrow it for a few days to test out the idea... I will gladly travel to pick it up and return it to you...

anyone ??? ( willing to leave my son Ryan as collateral )

  4. I believe Croton's new tanker is a pumper tanker.

naaaa... our new tanker is a Tanker... not a pumper / tanker. It does have a 1750 gpm pump on it, but that is because we have been doing allot more with nurse operations at structure fires ( depending on the site conditions, and the volume of fire ). Aside from that, the only hose we carry is for filling operations...All the equipment it carries is to do tanker operations - or - a car fire...

  5. First, typically road closures are the prerogative of DOT or the municipality, not the PD. Second, I'm not sure how CFD was unaware of this, as I've personally seen it on the highway variable message boards for a good two to three weeks now, including one right on Route 9 in Croton proper.

Maybe our Chief ( 2081 ) will tell us more later today, but when I talked to him about it last night, he was not apart of the planning, or had the Village informed him of just what is going to happen if something did come up... Truthfully, it does not suprise me, the CFD is always the last to know...we are all told we need to be NIMS trained so that all agencies can work together, but I can personally list 4 - 6 calls in the last 4 years were all that training was not put to good use...

  6. Good god who was the brain trust that agreed to this.. So at 9 am, Croton FD gets dispatched to a working structure fire on Teatown Road, in our outer district which we have to go on route 9 into Ossining to get to... Or A Mutual aid call with the Tanker to Millwood's or Yorktowns outer area... how do we get there ???

Quaker Bridge is not rated for all but one Croton rig, and the Croton Dam is still closed to all traffic... Oh sorry Mrs. Jones, it took use 45 minutes to get there because the roads were shut down for a road race...

I hope the PD agencies or who every is planning this out have a plan to get emergency equipment through there if needed, because as of tonight, CFD knows nothing, great inter agency work here...

  7. good reasoning ffd60, from your answer and the picture that makes sense. I was really afraid some guys are out there looking to hose a car and this was a case of it. I know guys from my own dept. that would love to do something like that to be able to take a picture of it.. Some times there is no way around it, but if we just look at things before charging a line, a few extta seconds will make it better for everyone. Thanks for the reply.

  8. actually Croton is keeping the old tanker, but the FD will not be using her... The cab and frame will be cleared of the FD body and the DPW will be installing a swap lift system to it so that it can be used as a dump truck, dumpster truck or what ever they need.

Originally the DPW wa putting in for a new truck, so when the issue of the Village getting a new tanker came up, the DPW pulled the new truck for our old cab and chassis. Personally I think it was a great idea, as what we would get $ 5,000 like we got for the old E119...
