  1. any of you guys ever read "20,000 alarms" by richard hamilton who was a rescue 2 lt. & retired in the early 70's? great reading & includes a lot of the major jobs over the years and do any of you remember the special ch. 2 news did on rescue 3 in the early 80's? they showed a lot of war years footage.
  2. i bet more than once on the way home from radio shack he's faked having a broken arm to trick a fat girl into helping him load a couch in his van.
  3. anyone want to bet what they'd find digging up his basement & backyard??????
  4. i grew up a vollie in a combination system & have more friends who are career than vollie and i despise crap like this. it benefits nobody any only rabblerouses those just looking for an excuse to start some ^#%. i would have enjoyed being in the same dept. as this kid & making him my "special project". how many blue light proof of purchase box tops have to be redeemed for this shirt? rather that take an uneducated stand on something he doesn't have the first clue about nor understand the possible repercussions maybe he should concern himself with smaller ideas like wondering where the rest of his pants are & why his cap is backwards or why raspberry popsicles are blue. "i don't know" sounds like another brain trust. in his little world he's obviously not burdened by deep thought.
  5. glenbrook's 1939 maxim was the first machine w/ a white roof, long ridge's 1978 seagrave was also red w/ a white roof and stamford fire rescue's 1979 pemfab hammerly telesqurt E-5 was red & white. technically long ridge's 1980 chevy stahl rescue had the first black roof even though it was flat black undercoating on the roof of the box so scratches from tree branches wouldn't show. 62 was turn of river's first w/ a white roof and after it was delivered 63's roof was painted white so sta.2 was red & white until 66 was delivered in 1983 & later 64 & 67 were repainted white over red during their refurbs. i remember those dark & light green stamford pd cars too. got any pics of them?
  6. any of you guys have the pleasure of having the impatient imbecile that feels he's more important than everyone else get in behind your machine so he can ride your a** through all the traffic? the CSP don't take kindly to this and made this particular jerk wait on the side of the highway until he was done writing up his multi-car wreck w/ injuries. we passed by several hours later going to another call & he was still waiting for the trooper to get to him. just a little street justice.
  7. it was a 1975 ALF midship ladder
  8. this obsession with parades is absurd. when i became a firefighter i joined to do firefighting, not march around like some majorette. guys that are enthusiastic about going & enjoy it that's fine for them but it's not for everybody and today with the high cost of living, increasing calls for service, declining memberships, huge time commitments for training & recertification all while balancing that with family & work responsibilities depts should be a little more aware what time demands they make from their members and be happy to get what they get. after taking who knows how many hours a week for legitimate firefighting then to demand they attend parades too is ridiculous. when you force guys to attend non-firefighting activities against their will or take more time away from them than they can really give it stops being fun & interesting & becomes too much like work & you're going to lose them. would you rather have the guy that shows up to clean machines for parades & attends parades or would you rather have the guy that takes what courses he can, shows up to any call at 3am regardless what it is and regularly gets your ladder truck or ambulance out the door???? members are assets & need to be actively managed as an assest not a possession.
  9. suspending a captain for something like using the 10 code is such a ridiculous over reaction, petty & transparent that it makes the chief look inept & shows he obviously has a personal agenda to get this captain no matter how far of a reach he has to go to pin something on this guy. suspending this guy is nothing more than a "gotcha". sounds like a real happy place to be. crap like this is divisive and does nothing but ruin morale. nice going!
  10. i've had nextel since the late 90's and it's not much better now than it was then. it's as if amtrak ran a radio/cellphone network. but i think we're just being nitpicky, selfish & overexpectant because it really is much more important they reinvest their money into sponsoring nascar because it serves the common good more when the public knows what's going on with tony stewart & jeff gordon than they are able to communicate over the ridiculously over-priced system we pay an obscene amount of money considering what we get. thanks for nothing nextel!
  11. i was brought up & taught that you deal with the incident you are currently commited to and only when released by command or the incident is closed should you be leaving. if it were open for m/a depts to leave for whatever reasons to return "home" there is no way you could actually depend on m/a or expect any kind of firm commitment from then for as long as it is needed leading to a breakdown of m/a & having to call in companies from farther & farther away resulting in lost time & endangering lives. it is the responsibility of the m/a company to insure they have station coverage while they are gone and if needed, rely on m/a to cover them. that's the intent of mutual aid, otherwise it just becomes a big freelancing cluster ^$. but that's just my opinion.
  12. "firefighter saves another crackhead". big deal. all the idiots come out when it's a full moon
  13. some might see this as an opportunity to go buy a big shiny expensive truck full of specialized bee handling equipment turning lemons into lemonade. this could also lead to a whole new industry developing new warning devices & vibration dampeners that won't antagonize the bees as well as an entire bee mitigation certification program. what is animal control's plate too full? another couple things to do & "fire" is going to have to be dropped since that's the least thing done & just refer to it as "the other emergency service".
  14. it's difficult enough working a code in a family's living room with them all around second guessing you & yelling at you to "hurry" & do things their vast medical experience watching tv has told them and it can only get worse locked together in a small box going down the road at 30-40 mph's (or faster). NO FAMILY IN THE BACK! maybe an exception would be a parent or sibling to calm a scared kid & it wasn't life or death but that's up to the individual crew as it should be. this is where a little common sense & a "what if" or 2 go a long way.
  15. 34 and can't believe i trust the fbi over the irs considering the irs had nothing to do with waco, randy weaver or the flight 800 "investigation". that was a tough choice. but then again the fbi doesn't shake me down once a year for an obscene amount of my income so we can subsidize farmers, provide politicians w/ marble floored elevators, limos & absurd pensions & give foreign aid to countries that really couldn't care whether we lived or died so long as the checks keep coming & they can be seen on CNN celebrating everytime we're attacked. great world we live in.
  16. around here use of sirens was always reserved for those staying in-service during the parade & needing to make a quick exit. i'd rather listen to the engines, especially the older 8 cylinder detroits and the low rumble of the long since gone glass pack mufflers than a bunch of obnoxious sirens. maybe some guys don't run enough calls but don't ya get tired of hearing that at some point?
  17. thanks, that's good to know. it's been tough locating a ringtone of a blood curdling scream.
  18. this "wolfpack" mentality gets more & more absurd. something happens they have no problem calling 911 but when you show up it's never fast enough & you're not doing enough to help them. like that was your intention when you took the job, to deprive people of emergency services. just ridiculous. they shoot at the cops, throw crap at the firefighters and now beating up ems workers. it's barbarian. if any group is neutral & should just be left alone to do their jobs it's ems. if these people, and i use that term loosely because acting like this is only borderline human maybe they should call one of those flame throwing, instigating "community leaders" or a voodoo priest to peform the resurections they insist upon and leave 911 for the people who appreciate it.
  19. just more "touchy feely" disingenuious nonsense from some hysterical politically correct whining creep. estela lopez couldn't be any more correct or honest but then again political correctness & hypersensitivity have nothing to do with honesty, reality or common sense. with all the crap going on in dowtown LA & this i what someone decides is the biggest problem that needs fixin'? ridiculous. whoever is guilty of making the complaint needs to grow up & put their effort into something constructive to actually make a difference. i can't even believe i'm wasting my time responding to something so insane.
  20. the new fire tetrahedron is 1- something that burns really good & makes lots of fire 2- gasoline 3- a couple of imbeciles 4- disfiguring burns
  21. hey you guys, stay out of my house & stop taking pictures. i likes me beer with dinner. whatya never touch the stuff? who are you, mother cabrini? when the price of aluminum goes up who's gonna be laughing then?
  22. any suggestion? yeah. get one easy to remove if this ridiculous, waste of time, non sensical, intrusive, over reaching piece of garbage ever passes. AND of course emergency vehicles will be exempt. how many times have you seen out of touch, elitist politicians make themselves & the government they manage live to the same standard they force us to? with highways & bridges falling apart, schools unable to promote & graduate students able to read & write & crime rising why don't they hunker down & do something meaningful & worthwhile instead of worrying about petty crap like what's bolted to the front of my truck. they don't have a clue what their purpose is. if you went to work everyday not knowing your job & not accomplishing anything you'd be fired. disgraceful.
  23. every piece of ridiculous, self serving, meaningless piece of legislation has started out as a proposal. at one time politicians were people of respect that put their personal lives on hold while they went & served their communities but it has become a lucrative career where the sell power & influence as well as their integrity while they only pretend to serve you but in reality are serving the special interest groups and their own arrogance because they think they know what's right for you because you're incapable & just not smart as they are. how many of these morally bankrupt people do remember in recent years being investigated, indicted, arrested or resigning in shame? rather than be respected they're worthy only of being loathed, resented & to be suspicious of.
  24. this couldn't be a more perfect example of over reaching, intrusive, busybody, elitist, do-gooder government but when you're disingenuous and lack the integrity and intellectual honesty to do anything about real problems you take on an issue like "killer" brush guards ravaging our highways to appear like you're doing something. much like the 10,000+ gun laws on the books that never seem to be enough or prosecute the people who need to be off the streets. it'll never change as long as politicians are more concerned with votes, patronage, ego boosting photo ops & perks than doing the right thing.
  25. they're releasing the movie between 2 other projects. the first about a grandmother found to need a root canal after breaking a tooth & the other about a guy waiting in line 4 hours at motor vehicle renewing his license on his day off. they're undecided whether or not they're going to pick up the option about a family hiring a local neighborhhod kid to clean their gutters and a delivery guy trying to buy a pizza with an expired coupon. i'm sure the special effects will be mind blowing.
