  2. Guys, the topic of rescues in westchester has been moved to another tread. It can be read here.

My question hasn't been answered so lets stay on topic. Does anyone know a timeline for the new truck? Will it be made by KME? Specs?

From what I know, and I'm sure the chief can verify once he knows more on here is that we settled with the insurance company and are looking to move foward as fast as possible to replace our rig. We are obviously looking to KME to replace R35 and I have seen some drawings of possible replacements.

Will keep you posted as the info becomes available.

  3. We felt that the Multi Force was a very durable and realistic simulator that could be used for different types of forces. We are able to force inward and outward on both sides of the simulator which some doors aren't capable of. You are able to control the resistance on the door based on the wood and chocks used. Also wood frame doors can be simulated with the "baseball swing" method as demonstrated in the video. It is portable and easy to assemble. We have used it at the Westchester FTC during a multi-department drill and were able to add a forcible entry evolution to the live burn, which worked out great. While not the cheapest option compared to other simulators or building a door simulator in-house, we felt it was a safe investment.

In recent years we haven't used our pitched roof as much. A neighboring departments training facility has a pitched roof simulator on top of the three story building. I would be interested in constructing a flat roof in the near future though.

    JBJ,

That's a great idea about the flat roof. Something we should definitly look into. I will try to get some pictures of the training center to put up, here. Have old ones but nothing new.

Our building now has 2 burn rooms. One room can be used as a simulated basement fire scenario. The other is on the second floor. Both give good heat in the room itself and to the floors above. Along with the burn room on the second floor, we have moveable walls to change the floor plan. Our third floor has simulated attic with access to the roof simulator. The top floor has a ladder to the roof of the building. The entire building also has a full standpipe system. On one of our doors in the building we have an older model forceable entry door, but it is currently OOS. Waiting on a part to fix. We also use our building for the bailout training.

I hope to have some pictures soon to share.

  4. I think this soldier deserves more consideration from our membership, so I just want to point out here on the board, that Mr. Buckles was THE LAST American left on this earth to have served in World War I. Maybe we'll get more clicks on the article and more comments.

We as a nation have gone so far from the dark days of the early twentieth century when our countrymen experienced so much hardship. From incomprehensible casualties and the cruelty of chemical weapons and trench warfare that was the horror of World War I, to terrible times back here in the Motherland of a collapsed economy, and people migrating all over through "The Grapes of Wrath", homeless and hungry until they reached a soup kitchen.

110 years for Mr. Buckles. He witnessed all of the twentieth century, served our country, and became a symbol of the gallant and brave young men America sent overseas to fight and die for a better world.

Rest in Peace Sir, you earned it many many decades ago.

    Capt,

    Couldn't agree with you more.

Mr. Buckles, thank you so much for all you have done to serve your country.

RIP. Prayers are with you and your family .

  5. Larchmont , all of new rochelles spare engines, and ladders were manned and brought to the scene as well as utility 91

I saw this morning on the way to work all the mess. Ladder 14 (Spare/Former L12) was set up on Locust and Clinton and looked like master stream from Eng 22 was hitting the front of the building at 7 this morning.

Tough fire and a lot of hose stretched.
