  1. who was the instructor?
  2. NOT to switch topics however a few minutes ago Mt Vernon last ladder broke down, they now have NO ladders in Mt. Vernon
  3. The reason was Eastchester could not provide a fire house that the apparatus could back into (height restrictions), however I can recall at least 4 events in Eastchester when yonkers has responded. There is a great relationship with YFD and EFD, EFD will respond to Yonkers when called and Yonkers will respond to Eastchester when called. Do not try to make something out of EFD with Yonkers there is no problem! Just an update YFD did not come off EFD mutual aid, they just moved down as a result of the fact YFD rigs do not fit in EFD houses
  4. in my reply I just tried to make it simple, it seems now we are going to take this apart, when I talk about line to the front door you should be to the left or right, this way the truck has room to work. Also control your equipment so it does not get kicked out of the way by another FF. We did not discuss the weather, is the house buttoned up, is there a need for vert vent to prevent backdraft? when I said mask up, put on your facepiece while you have time(the door is being forced) you do not have to go on air, just click in when you hit the smoke, (I know it limits your vision a little) we do not know if the bedroom is 1st floor or second floor. Is it a side hall colonial with the door on the left and flames showing on the right (longer stretch across the house)? Size of the house, suburban home residential street (not a mansion) I assumed you were asking for a small dept with limited resources.
  5. private dwelling, stretch line to the front door, charge line, bleed the line make sure you have good water, check your stream shaper (if using fog nozzle) right to fight, mask up, truck forces door, in you go with the protection of a charged line.
  6. Date:10/5/2008 Time:05:43 Location: 25 Highland ave. Frequency: Units Operating: 2101,2103,2102,ENG 27,29,31,Lad 16,TL 17, Greenville ENG Description Of Incident: working fire 2story prvt dwelling , basement and 1st floor Writer: demps121
  7. hey IBO what are you talking about? Are PLEMS shirts included? EFD184 might have one for Sale!
  8. EFD184 might be willing Did Jerry quit already?
  9. Fir natine you say you speak to people in the fire service, maybe you speak to idiots? I do not believe you have spoken to FF's from Eastchester, so don't speak as if you know,if you don't, you are getting info second hand.
  10. Sorry I am entering this late reply to FirNaTine post # 16, However the record must be corrected, He talked about regionalization of combo Depts with only career drivers Let me tell you my friend, Eastchester are career professional firefighters and officers with a minimun of 2 on a rig at a time and sometimes 3. So please state facts correctly!!!! As for the other Dept you mentionioned, All of those other Dept's send their Firefighters and Officers to the Fire Academy requiring them to meet NY State standards as Career Firefighters NOT Chauffeurs.
  11. I spoke to a sales person a few weeks ago, the wire frame is still avalable it is an option, as well as the straps, the parachute style is the default strap, while you can still get the aligator clip straps, the waist belt also has a pouch with a hose to let a firefighter buddy breath, I did not like the pouch something else to get caught on, also if you look at the top of the pack there is a loop strap for rescue of a downed FF it is exposed so as something can get caught on the strap. Just my opinion. I would like to try one with some of the options wire frame and aligator clips, and get rid of the side pouch on the waist strap.
  12. Thanks for clearing that up. Your last statement is very interesting, in how it relates to apparatus getting out, being taken by the housemen, Question are they forced to be volunteers? Is that why they were hired? alot of questions come to mind. It is just an interesting issue to discuss. How are laws applied? Ect.Ect.
  13. Hey ladder 47, maybe you could call newsday and have there legal department research this. I still stick with my original statement! Remember I said to Volunteer and be employed by the same Dept.
  14. Hey ladder 47 are you sure it is not, just because it has been going on does not mean it is not a violation of the fair labor standards act, I am still sticking with my original statement, I will be pulling out my old books and doing research for you. I will get back to you on this.
  15. I believe to volunteer and be paid in the same department even as a janitor is a violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act, that is Federal Law. Check it out.
  16. word on the street is lincoln ave is going to be closed with firefighters in trailers. Anybody have info please post.
  17. All the grades so far appear to be as if they are zone scoring, ex 100, or 95 or 90 ect, so if a dept has a residency list and 20 people have 100 they all must be interviewed and are treated as equal. #1 and # 20 are the same. I believe this is how it was done last time. Don't forget the agility will take some people off the list.
  18. Everybody would like as much real fire training as possible. This needs to be done with absolute safety as number 1. That being said NY State has a live burn policy which is strictly followed at Westchester. No benefit is gained if people get hurt or burn up gear. All live fire training is done in accordance with NFPA 1403.
  19. Do we all get letters???????? Are you playing wheel of fortune?????????
  20. Good Luck to all. I hope you can clarify something for me? Is this the personal bail out system? And if so, is this survival that the members are taking as opposed to Fast?
  21. SETH, get better soon!!!! I Hope you are OK
  22. Just a quick question, have the outrigger design changed, it does not look like the outriggers can be pinned?
  23. Eastchester FD every firefighter and fire officer trained to EMT
  24. Sorry for the previous Class I-87 29 Firefighters, Chief Charla NRFD, Capt Ruddy, Capt Mazz
