    Barry,
Lets talk about 2 of the squads that were disbanded. 1 Was Squad 5 that was handled by Eastchester and Scarsdale. Eastchester is allegedly with Mt Vernon now. Lets say there is an incident in NYC trains are going to be stopping in New Rochelle because they have a hospital, Trains will stop in Yonkers because they have 2 hospitals, Trains will stop in Mt Vernon because they have a hospital, and guess what trains will stop in Bronxville because there is a hospital.
So now lets talk about decon at these locations, how are we going to decide who gets the trailer? and the needed equipment?
Also Mt Vernon has 3 train stations as does Eastchester. Perhaps the people that made the decision to do away with squad 5 should really speak to the people that do the work. The plan may look good from some meeting room however not in practical application.

Have prospective employee/member sign a release for fingerprint history. If they refuse the red flag goes up. If they dont like it they can file a complaint. By placing this policy in effect you are protecting the public and other employees.

Hey Capt2102 "NORMAL" there is nothing, and I mean nothing normal about EFD. As for only 1 working Aerial device, lets just call it a very dangerous way to do business. you say dangerous yes dangerous for both the residents and the firefighters, but nobody gives a ****.

I have ridden lost trails in PA not bad tons of boulders. There is a club just south of Albany to ride you must pay membership fee and provide proof of insurance.

I started the original thread about that organization, in fact it was picked up of EMT bravo, and reposted on an FDNY site, it appears some of those members were maybe going to forward the organization to the Fire Marshalls for investigation. The discussion has alot of merit as people with wind breakers getting beyond firelines and possibly wanting to do harm to responders. Please reopen the thread.

    bob,
How about color code on gasoline power equipment. EXAMPLE everything on straight gas gets marked with a band of green electrical tape, everything with mix(gas & oil) yellow tape, the gas can itself also needs the corresponding color code. I have seen guy's try to read 2 exact size gas cans that somone marked with black marker 1 gas oil the other gas, very difficult to make out at night. Just a good 11/2 inch band should do the trick

Maybe Mike can clear something up, true must elevators will go up because of the counter weight system however lets not forget alot of elevators stall because they are overloaded thus the elevator can possibly go down.

Brothers, Please take the elevator class taught by Mike. The class is offered through Westchester County (it is Free) to firefighters and Fire officers. You will be amazed at how much you do not know, and how dangerous elevator removals can be. No one has mentioned placing members in class 3 harnesses and on rope or not wearing turnout gear during removal/rescues from stalled cars in the shaft.
How about shutting down power to adjacent cars in multi car banks when doing removals from the top of a car so a firefighter does not get killed by a passing car that is still running.
I was lucky enough to have taken Elevator awareness with Mike and a few day's later encountered a difficult removal, where we had to place firefighters into the shaft on rope with harnesses (for our own safety)
Please realise the importance of proper training in Elevator rescue/removal and sign up and take the class.
