    Mark,
While I don't know the breakdown the county hours are not divided equally, why would Greene County the same hour allotment as Westchester? At the last Orange Co FFI graduation the Dep Coordinator of Fire Training stated Orange County is #2 in NYS with OFPC hours, behind only Erie County. With that being said Orange County also separately funds their own County Fire Instructors. This greatly reduces the dependence on NYS hours for classes.
ie. If a class needs a 2nd and 3rd instructor for 10 hours of hands on in a county like Ulster you use up 30 OFPC hours, Orange can use 10 OFPC and 20 county hours if they'd like. This increases the amount of classes they can host.

Campbell Supply (an independent dealership) used to be the Seagrave dealer for FDNY, until they were offered an ALF dealership that came with a lucrative high volume Freightliner dealership. Several years ago when ALF started failing, they became a Crimson/Spartan ERV dealer, and was recently awarded Spartan ERV dealership of the year. They also were losing money doing FDNY warranty work and Seagrave wasn't holding their end of the bargain financially.
No dealer wanted to take on the volume of work that a Seagrave-FDNY contract would be, so Seagrave was forced to open their own service facility in East Brunswick, NJ. A few years ago, this facility made the news when FDNY was having issues and it was taking forever to turn around warranty work and to repair problems on brand new trucks. Some apparatus sat there for months, while 15 year old spares were being used for weeks at a time. Two of the new at the time rigs caught fire due to mechanical issues. It got so bad that FDNY re-bid a contract for Tower Ladders, and threatened not to buy any more Seagraves due to the shoddy workmanship at the time. Seagrave claimed a lot of things, including the lack of qualified technicians.
And during this time, other departments that were interested in purchasing Seagraves in the NJ couldn't even get a salesperson to come meet with them.
Nowadays, Seagrave is mostly into building high-end, handcrafted, and rugged rigs for individual departments, as well as selling proprietary products, such as the Aerialscope II. They don't bid as competitively anymore, especially with large contracts. They bid at what the apparatus is actually worth, knowing that departments that want Seagrave will get Seagrave (FDNY up until recent years), and have dealers that will support them. Hudson Valley Fire Equipment is the Hudson Valley dealer for Seagrave. Santo Curro. the President of the company, personally spends hours upon hours with the client and engineers at Seagrave to design a custom rig that will fit the department well, and he backs it with 24/7 service and support. The proof of their success is the orders are coming in and you'll start to see more Seagrave's in the Hudson Valley over the next several years.

More uninformed hatred. A quick search of public tax records deeds MLSS HQ, Newburgh, Middletown, and Kingston stations to either Mobile Life Support Services or a LLC with the same Newburgh PO box as MLSS. A common practice among medium-large businesses. As for vehicle leasing, who knows if they own or lease, another common practice among successful medium-large businesses. Maybe that's their trick, they incorporate traditional business practices into their plans as opposed to the traditional public safety methods of spend spend spend.

I will pose the exact same scenario I've posed a million times on this forum:
At the exact moment that YOU call a Mayday, would you rather have:
    A. The team of 18-21 year olds fresh out of Firefighter 1 standing on the front lawn, ready to go with equipment.
    -OR-
    B. The elite "Special Operations" FAST crew in their customized FAST rig still en route from 3 towns away.
People are acting like the basics of a RIT operation are some form of black magic attainable only by the saltiest, most senior Firefighters. Sure, would it be preferable to have a bunch of experienced senior guys to do it? Sure. But the situation isn't always going to allow for that.
Say it with me: RIT/FAST is NOT a specialized unit. It is a basic function that must be performed at ALL fires, just like fire attack, ventilation, search and rescue, water supply, etc. So ALL Firefighters need to be trained to perform it... Are some people going to gravitate towards that training more than other aspects? Sure, as with anything else in the fire service. But its not a something that any of us can say is "not our job." It absolutely NEEDS to be a part of basic Firefighter training.

EMT111 you could not be more wrong. Orange County has one of, if not the worst, emergency radio systems in the Hudson Valley. As for the portables, not all departments "portable 1" is their base station. Some use it as it is supposed to be, and their line officers use portable numbers. Departments who are not authorized to transmit with base stations in county channels use the portable designation, maybe they think the FCC isn't smart enough to figure it out.

Tonight @ 21:00 the Plattekill Fire Department was dispatched for a PIAA on the NYS Thruway at mile marker 71.1 South Bound. Car 1, Car 3, Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 4, 645 and 47-36 where all responding when @ 21:11 We were advised that Engine 4 was involved in a Motor Vehicle Accident, roll over with entrapment.
I have a been some sort of a chief officer for 13 years now, in the fire service for 21 years and never once did I instantly feel like I was going to vomit while responding to an incident...not until last night. I can tell you there are so many things that are going through your head after receiving an alarm involving your own...
What do I do? Whom do I call? How difficult is the extrication? What Happened? What did they hit? Who is in the truck? But the toughest question, the one that still rings in my head is "Are they alive?"
I will not speak of specifics. I will not release the details of this incident and I will let the authorities finish their investigation. But what I can tell you, 4 of the 5 firefighters have been released. Engine 4 is a total loss and the definition of brotherhood was re-taught to me through the actions of area fire departments and fire departments through out the state.
Cronomer Valley whom handled the incident...Thank you!!! Your professionalism went a long way tonight. You are our brothers and for you I am thankful. With out getting into every department that has reached out to us, because I can guarantee someone with be forgotten, whether it be at either at our stations or through phone calls, I had 132 missed calls, Thank you!!! Never have I had such an out pouring of support just for us.
I ask you, do you know what it is like to have to sit at the back of your vehicle trying to coordinate different responses while your Firefighters need YOUR help? Not something I EVER want to handle again.
For years we instill into our memberships heads...Seat belts, seat belts, SEAT BELTS... and on November 2nd 2013 @ 21:11, those seat belts saved their lives.
At St. Francis Hospital...the support continued. Fairview, Roosevelt, Arlington Fire Departments, with Engines, and Lisa Gardner, whom provided me with very informative updates, met the inbound ambulances to assist with ANYTHING we needed, ANYTHING. Tears is the word that best described how I was after I was notified of your support! I cant say thank you because thank you doesn't cover your actions. I owe you... period.
At 1:21 we called back in service, My membership continuing to want to help the community, knowing that what we seen tonight could have been completely different.
We will continue serving the community, we are Plattekill. We ARE Plattekill Strong.
I ask no one post NO Photos or post no details until the investigation is complete and I approve of such postings.
    Thank you Everyone.
    Chief Christopher Mancuso
