Our Village trustees need to be thanked for approving the gift of our former Engine 87 to Broad Channel. Instead of only looking at how we can get more money, they decided to do the right thing to help fellow New Yorkers. Mutual aid is not merely helping a neighboring department when they have a large fire. It is also looking to help others in any way possible. We deployed Engine 86 and a crew for three days to the Woodmere FD on Long Island three weeks ago. I am proud to have served on that crew. It's like my Scouts say, "...to help other people at all times."

We are looking to have the wetdown in April.

She arrived today in the Village!

All are welcome to come tomorrow or Saturday during the block party and Haunted Hayride to see her. She will be parked at Beekman and Lawrence both evenings. We wish to show the public their new fire engine.

On behalf of Columbia Hose Co. #3 and the truck committee, I wish to publicly thank the Sleepy Hollow Board of Trustees and the residents of the Village for their support in the acquisition of the truck. We hope that they are all as proud of her as I am. I also want to specifically thank Chief John Korzelius and Chief Driver Jack Tornello for all of their efforts.

Engine 87

Being from California, I have seen this outsourcing directly. The city I grew up in was served by the LA County Sheriff and the LA County Fire Depts. Many cities, and now counties, across California have disbanded their own FDs in favor of contracting with their county, or the state (CalFire). The City of Santa Fe Springs shifted law enforcement from the LA Sheriffs to the neighboring City of Whittier. In many cases, like my city, the larger political body has the resources to provide better services than the smaller body.

In our setting, I do not know how much savings can be realized by consolidation. It would appear that the savings would be realized by eliminating apparatus. How much can be saved from a department with an operating budget of $160,000 with three pumpers, one aerial and one rescue? ISO has stated that they must have three pumpers and one aerial.

To further complicate the matter locally, our county is split between special tax districts and municipal departments.

First, throwback baseball uniforms. Now, throwback spacecraft. Next, they'll be using punchcard computers.

I've been working EMS in New Rochelle for a few weeks now. I am very impressed with the professionalism and support that we receive from the firefighters of the NRFD. They help in lifting, carrying gear, and in other small and large ways. This situation is very unfortunate. My prayers are with the affected individuals and their families that next year might be brighter.

This is why the NIMS/ICS system tells us to use plain English instead of 10 codes.

Does anyone here know what the sleepy hollow fire department runs as far as Engines, ladder trucks, Rescues, chiefs cars, brush trucks, Utilities, antiques and boats? I tried to find someone from sleepy hollow that I could PM, but I couldn't so I had to start a new thread. Anyways any info. will be greatly apprieciated, thanks in advance, steve.

It is my understanding that Battalion 12, of which Sleepy Hollow is a part, has been requested for a 12 hour shift on Sunday. I do not know how many, or which, departments will be participating in this deployment.
