  5. Good point Captain! Our I-page list currently goes out to 71 of our members, which is great. The only phones we pay for are the three Chiefs and our administrative assistant. The cost of I-page has been mentioned before and unfortunately, there isn't anything we can do about it.
  6. We only activate our sirens during the hours of 0700-1900. Our 24 hour secondary notification is the I-page sent from 60 Control. Our sirens, located on each of the three firehouses, does three rounds, roughly a minute of noise. If, in the event our tower is down and we are dispatched on a backup, our siren will be activated around the clock to better ensure members are notified.

  11. This is tonight! Tickets still available at the door. Hope to see some of you there!
  12. Gina, So, what plans does the company have for the future?
  13. Kenny, A lot of departments are getting away from walk-in bodies like our Rescues have because the seating safety isn't as good as you get with a crew cab. I doubt we will have another walk-in when we retire R18 in a few years.
  14. Great photos JT! The Rescue 1 rigs are really growing on me and becoming a favorite of mine. Best of luck with it brothers and sisters in Yorktown!
  15. Which of the Rescue 16's did the burnouts in that lot?!
  16. I've been waiting to see the crane and am very impressed with the rig. Good luck with it!
  17. Is that neccessary junior? Arrested or not, they're still pieces of sh-t!
  18. Good job Captain! This is why people should learn CPR, you never know who you may have to help. I've always felt that CPR should be taught in High School and offered routinely in every community. NYS wants to make some money...make every driver pay $5 every two years to take a CPR class to keep their license!
  19. A "Vacant building" in a rich community is probably safer then a "Non-Vacant" building in the ghetto. Well said by DC Spinelli, every incident requires a risk vs. benefit analysis. I do agree that knowing your district, building construction and fire behavior can help formulate pre-plans and Incident Action Plans that will effectively save lives, conserve property and most importantly, ensure that our brothers go home at the end of the call.
  20. It's the drivers in most cases. The majority of the accidents we respond to are not the fault of the road, but the driver(s) involved. For example, we used to get fairly serious to fatal accident on northbound 9 at Croton Point Avenue when cars veered off and went into that gulley. DOT finally put up guardrails, which has helped, yet the majority of those accidents were almost always the fault of the driver for going too fast. Also, the vast majority of roll overs we respond to are because people are driving too fast and not paying attention as they should. Billy's right, you can be doing the speed limit or even up to 10 MPH over it, and people blow past you like you're parked. The scary thing is what he put in his post - caravans full of kids. I have yet to go to a fatal MVA on Route 9 that could be blamed on the roadway, it's the drivers. Inexperience + speed = collisions resulting in major injuries and/or death. Just ask all of the departments, VACs and PDs from Hawthorne up to Dutchess what they think of Routes 9 & 9A.
  21. That's because everyone is desensitized to them since everyone leaves them on all the time, and they should only be used when they are needed. Same thing with having flashing lights on all the time, whether red, amber, blue, etc. All warning lights should be used for emergency response and as needed on scene, used in concert of course with proper lane / traffic control and scene lighting.
  22. I know I will get yelled at for this...but... HOLY s***!
  23. Looking forward to this seminar, we're bringing 9-10 people.
  24. That makes two of us!
  25. I thought it was their 237th....LOL. Happy Veterans Day!
