  1. Probably done one or two....in God only knows how many uniforms though...
  2. Looks good Rob. I just realized that this will be the only side-mount pumper you have, right? I'm sure that shaved 4-5 feet of the OAL. Does this mean that E123 will become a 2nd / 3rd Due piece? That thing is awesome, always liked it! Good luck, let me know when it's here so I can check 'er out.
  3. Is there still some DOH rule about ALS and how you decide where/what is allowed based on call volume? I remember at one point someone telling me you have to do at least 1,000 calls to have your own ALS, not sure if it is BS or real. If that's the case, sounds like the four Medics Putnam has been working with would be more then sufficient, perhaps either the County can create a Putnam ALS program or another agency, like Empire State, will come in and do it at the price Putnam wants to pay. Either way, it's a service that has to be there!
  4. There's a few things we try for to beat the heat. On our "Working Fire Assignments," it calls for two ambulances (One of ours / one M/A), an ALS Fly-Car, Cortlandt VAC's Rehab unit and a Cascade (as well as other fire apparatus). Another nice benefit from our Mutual Aid is that the Buchanan Cascade Unit also carries bottled water (in a fridge) and if I'm not mistaken they have those chairs you can cool off in. On our own rigs, we carry two cool-mist fans - one on the Truck and the other on the Rescue. The Rescue also has a small fridge which water is SUPPOST to be stored in. Snotty - we've done the thing with the Navy Fog on our E119 - works great! I think Capt. Benz showed us it at WCFTC. Also, now I get why you have R4 available those hours (I was curious when I hear them come up on boxes). Also, E119 has an exhaust fan with water-mist attachment which works well. Lastly, we try to get the A/C units running on the apparatus for a place to cool down. Other resources we have local to us include buses from the Montrose, Buchanan and Verplanck FDs. **A note to all - getting County Buses during business hours is a lot quicker then in the off-hours. Have the IC (or Battalion) contact 60 Control and they will work on getting it for you.**
  5. I know people are going to think I am crazy here..... I would go with Partyrock on entering the garage - but I would be a little cautious. We have a garage in our area that looks like this one - and it has a lift where cars are stored "above" the garage door, allowing other cars to park "below." Strange house / layout, definitely gets the mind working. Not that it's important, but rumor has it that the car stored "above" in the house I am referring to is a Delorian like the one in the Back to the Future films. I'll see about getting photos of it.
  6. I must be missing it in my searches... Can anyone tell me what the exact equipment and training requirements are, and what time frame we have? Thanks!
  7. Rob, I find if you actually screw the cap on the bottle, it usually stays in it!!! J/K Buddy, I did the same thing only on my desktop - went to OfficeMax and got a new keyboard. SPEAKING OF COMPUTER GEEK ASSISTANCE.... I am trying like crazy to convert some Quicktime files into something I can use with Windows Movie Maker. They are digital videos I shot and want to edit into something. Any thoughts? I have tried downloading a couple of things I found on Google, but no luck thus far. Thanks!!!
  8. God bless you brother.
  9. What happened to the thread on the 7th Alarm fire at the Deutsch Bank? A lot of us are interested in what's going on and this site has been reliable thus far.
  10. It showed up as LOCKED for about 5 minutes, thanks.
  11. Onlocation snapped a ton of shots too, maybe if you ask him nicely he'll be able to give you some. I think his going rate is now $5 per image....
  12. They're a New Kids On The Block tribute band.... They're actually worth listening to - if I can make it I will be there, but so far it looks like I can't make it. Good luck Art & crew!
  13. I like parades, I hate the BS attached. - Bands are way too expensive. - Competition is stupid. - Too many people wearing uniforms get loaded and embarass us. - We should be there for the ones watching us. If a kid waves and expects you to wave back you shouldn't hesitate - just do it. I don't need to go thru life being judged on how I perform marching or how clean my rig is. Tell me I am a good fireman or an EMT - and tell me my rig is well designed and performs it's job - that's what I give a crap about. I still march out of pride, but I refuse to take it so seriously that I get mad if I don't win something.
  14. How can the PD not be involved in this?! That is INSANE! I will be watching this story for developments, sounds like another case where drinking around the firehouse has resulted in another disaster.
  15. Honest opinion here... How many of you remember ANYTHING other then the line you are stretching? I am pretty sure that every fire, except one I remember, where I am on the first line in we grab the line....and that's it. I think so many of us think of the TIC as an "Investigative" tool that doesn't get taken in if there is visible fire. Here's my personal opinion on what we should take with the initial line. (Please throw in your opinions!) - Radio - TIC - Tool (for me it would be a halligan and/or a 6' hook) - Flashlight If it is a three-man stretch, the "Officer" can easily carry all of this. Put the radio in the pocket, clip the TIC to your coat, sling the light over your shoulder or into your coat and carry the tool. I don't think it's too much to ask. If it is a two-man stretch, the backup can carry the stuff so the knobman can do their thing. I forget which class or seminar I was taking, but I learned a good tip about the Roof hook. Take it in with the 1st line, that way if a ceiling or wall has to be opened - you can. Plus if you are working with drop ceilings or even cathedral ceilings, you can stick that hook up over your head and if that thing is hot when you bring it back down.....well, you know you got something over ya.
  16. They no longer have E125 or MA24. Currently in their firehouse is E121 (The Condo as most of us in the area know it), E123, TL8, R51, M51, U68. I would imagine that U68 (old Chief's truck) will have to go outside so they can put E122 in the firehouse. Looks like a nice rig, can't wait to see it in person.
  17. Sounds to me that the Cortlandt, Yorktown & Northern Westchester Medics will be doing A LOT OF MUTUAL AID. I think this might actually be the dumbest thing I have heard recently. Wow......I feel sorry for my family and friends living in Bodunk.....I mean Putnam. ALS is an option?! Good God Man!
  18. I apologize for expressing my opinion. It kills me that threads about lights and other "buffy" things get more replies and discussion then topics about training, safety and other important things. Nothing personal, please don't take it that way. I just hate coming here and seeing 40 or so posts in a topic about "toys" and hardly any input on things of real importance.
  19. I wish Westchester would do something like this with 46.26 / 33.96 for paging. It's nuts to have as many different towers as we have. It would save time and valuable airtime for those departments paged TWICE on different towers if we could make it happen all at once. For more on this, please see "Pipe Dream" in Webster's dictionary.
  20. This is going to be a little harsh, but... A. Who really cares? B. Why is it important? C. Why not PM someone on the job in FDNY instead of posting it? Or, if it is posted, why do people have to speculate? There's plenty of people in the know who can answer this CORRECTLY.
  21. They don't care about that. They are trying to market their products to people that want reduced road noise. It's not a fact that anyone should be proud of, but the plain and simple is this - WE HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO OPERATE OUR EMERGENCY VEHICLES AS IF EVERYONE IS DEAF, BLIND and possibly DUMB. Always assume the worst. Pre-plan your response, size-up your road and traffic conditions, anticipate your turns, moves and obstacles and consider if using your warning devices is truly neccessary. Relocating to another firehouse for a cover assignment - no need for warning devices. Lift assist with no reported injuries - no need for warning devices. ETC., ETC., ETC. I know people are going to argue with me, but it's how I feel. Our FD has "Non-emergency" responses for CO Calls with no symptoms, elevator rescues, fluid spills, and a few other calls. Plus, many, almost most of our calls, a Chief or an IC will knock everyone down to the non-emergency response and/or return units that are not needed. One example is AFA's - we generally hold the Truck and Rescue and send the Engine non-emergency mode to investigate and handle paperwork. And, to be honest, I don't see a significant amount of time saved or lost based on how we respond. If anyone can prove otherwise, let me know.
  22. 384 People have the same name as I do. But there is only one me.....(which is more then enough!)
  23. Date: 8/6/07 Time: 14:45 Location: 41 Manchester Road Frequency: Eastchester FD UHF Units Operating: (Initial) 2102, E27, E31, TL17, L16 (1st Alarm) 2103, E30, EVAC Description Of Incident: Fire in Garden-Style Apartments on 1st Floor. 24. That seems kind of sudden, Chris. Did something happen to the rig or is it a personnel issue? That's too bad, I always liked that rig.
  25. Two Engines stopped carrying it. One Engine keeps some spare bunker gear. Truck has gear of their members. Rescue has 3/4 boots, coats and helmets for other to use as support / high water incidents. I would like to see 3/4 boots not stored on apparatus so people don't think they are there for them to use at structural calls. Eliminate the chances for stupidity, hence the reason we dumped the boosted line too.
