Where can I send a resume.

WP has 3 ambulances in the city, 1 ALS and 2 BLS. When needed,Mutual Aide is called into the city

What do you mean "when manpower allows?" Is there a different level of staffing from day to day? Or are there overlapping shifts? It doesn't make sense that a piece of apparatus is available only "at times" and other rigs are getting an extra person "at timesWPFD
WPFD does not overlap tours (cops work shifts, FF's work tours LOL) Like stated in earlier posts, "minimum" staffing is 26 men per tour, in the event there is 27 or 28 men working, they will put a 4th man on the Trucks or Rescue - DC's call. If manpower is 29, then L34 will be put in service. Manpower changes all the time depending on vacations, comp time, sick leave, line of duty injury, or personal time.
-
WPFD currently runs with 8 companies - (5) Engines Companies - 65,66,67,70,71. (2) Truck Companies - 32 is a Stick and Tower Ladder 6. (1) Rescue Company 88. Ladder 34 (the 9th Company) is BROWNED out due to budget cuts. WPFD went from 170 men to 150 men when the economy went south. L34 is staffed when the manpower allows. WPFD rides with 3 men per company, when manpower allows they put a 4th man L32, TL6, and R88.
Current staffing is: 8 Companies x 3 per Co.= 24 men + Car 2512 (which is the Deputy Chief and the Aide) 2 men= 26 men per tour. (If/when L34 is in service that would add 3 men to the total, it would be 29)
I LOVE HOW ALL THE EXPERTS CAN COMMENT ON THINGS THEY HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT!!!!

WHERE IS THE BRASS FROM THE THE CAREER FIRE DEPTS AND UNION REPS FROM THOSE SAME JOBS. COPS AND VOLLIES WHERE WELL REPRESENTED BUT NOT THE PAID JOBS, LAST TIME I CHECKED WE WHERE THE ONES TRAINING WITH FDNY, WE WOULD BE THE ONES RESPONDING INTO NYC MANNING THE FIRE HOUSES, AND WE WOULD BE THE ONES HANDLING HAZ MAT SITUATIONS IN OUR OWN CITIES.
-
Like everything else in our line of work it comes down to two important issues, manpower and funding. While some feel this in not the case let me ashore you those two components go hand and hand, not just for a terrorist threat or attack but for the the firefighters and cops who perform their job 24/7/365.

A little off track here, but I'm under the impression that White Plains runs with only two guys on a rig. Is that True ?
P.S....... I hope not, thats a pretty good size city.
WPFD runs with a minimum of 3 per company and a max of 4. For a report of a fire we send, the DC (car 2512) 3 engines 1 truck and the rescue, the DC will usually call for an additional engine to come in as FAST while responding if its a confirmed fire. Once on scene and depending on situation a 2nd alarm would be 1 and 1 with the 3rd truck we have (if in service) relocating to HQ or the scene, we are done after that and mutual aid is called to cover the city.

We pay in already and I believe your new tier will pay in. Absent a Constitutional Convention and change your terms are set.
Good point.......... Tier V is in place, with tier 6 coming

DiNapoli: Pension Fund Remains Strong in Midst of Sluggish Economy
http://www.osc.state.ny.us/press/releases/nov11/112211a.htm
The New York State Common Retirement Fund (Fund) was valued at $133.8 billion after Fund investments posted an estimated negative 7.48 percent rate of return through September 30, 2011, the end of the Fund's second fiscal quarter, according to New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli."Like almost all investors, the Fund has been affected by the sluggish economy and increased volatility in the markets," DiNapoli said. "The Fund remains one of the strongest in the U.S. and our diversified portfolio will keep it secure and poised for strong returns in the coming months."
The Fund has 36.1 percent of its assets invested in publicly traded domestic equities and 15.1 percent in international equities. The remaining Fund assets by allocation are invested in cash, bonds and mortgages (28.6 percent), private equity (10.8 percent), real estate (6.5 percent), absolute return (2.5 percent) and opportunistic strategies (0.4 percent).
DiNapoli initiated quarterly performance reporting by the Fund as part of his on-going efforts to increase accountability and transparency. The Fund, which exists to provide benefits to more than one million retirees, beneficiaries and active employees, will close its current fiscal year on March 31, 2012.

Maybe it is because of selfish brothers who won't take brothers from another job who are getting laid off in order to keep their OT? That makes sense!

what are the dynamics of WP pop. area sq. miles runs equiptment are they ems bls als?
The population is about 60,000 BUT during the the day it jumps to about 250,000 and now that WP is a 24 hour city with BOOMING night life that 60,000 really isn't 60,000 anymore. WP is 10 sq miles. WPFD has 9 companies- 5 engines, 3 trucks, and a rescue. The only time WPFD runs ems is if all the bus' are tied up, occasionally they respond on an assist.

And yes we are a FIRE DEPARTMENT. Even at 169 it's not enough, the dynamics of the city has changed and the manpower has decreased.

White Plains Firefighters Union Says City Should HireWhite Plains Professional Firefighters Local 274 is questioning why the City gave back a portion of a grant to hire back nine firefighters, instead
of seven.
By Dina Sciortino of the White Plains Patch
White Plains Professional Firefighters Local 274 says White Plains could be at risk with the City's failure to hire new firefighters. The firefighters union is questioning why the City gave back a portion of a $1.9 million grant that would have allowed the City to hire back nine firefighters that were originally laid off in May 2009, instead of only seven.
"Those two extra firefighters are crucial, because we're so short on man power," said Lt. Kevin Clampet, the secretary treasurer for Local 274. "It's a safety issue. In order for us to have an efficiently and effectively run department, we need people. For that two-year grant period, it would have made White Plains a safer city at no cost to the taxpayers."

Th company placed OOS is Ladder 34 out of station 7 in the south end of the city. Rescue is manned 24/7/365, it was browned out after the layoffs in May of 2010, for a short time due to manpower issues.

IF THE CITY WANTS TO LAYOFF.......BOYCOT ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE CITY.
IF YOU FEEL THE NEED TO MARCH, MARCH AS A UNION, NOT AS A DEPARTMENT, WITH ALL THOSE ABOUT TO GET LAID OFF LEADING THE WAY.
IF YOU WANT TO PICKET AND RALLY THAT DAY, LET ALL OF US KNOW AND WE WILL STAND WITH OUR BROTHERS, GOD ONLY KNOWS THERE IS POWER IN NUMBERS.
LAYOFFS SUCK....WE LOST 9 LAST MAY, AND THE EFFECTS WILL LAST FOREVER.

WPFD does not normally respond to EMS calls. In the event WP's EMS provider, Transcare, is tied up, the FD will respond and provide care until an ambulance arrives. WP has 3 ambulances in the city that run out of Station 2.
