Both look like re-badged Sprinter. I've seen Sprinter bodies with crew seating and a utility body that could be converted with little trouble into a chief's vehicle or a mini-pumper or light rescue

Sorry to report the City of Mount Vernon has a idiot for a Mayor. Mayor Ernest Davis dismissed Thomas’ criticisms, saying the Buildings Department has four inspectors who walk through structures on an as-needed basis. He said the department has never had a routine inspection program. Asked if the Fire Department is adequately staffed, he said, “Absolutely.” Two firefighters staffing the first due engine is a disaster in the making.

Do you think that someone would b**** if their $2 million McMansion burns down or grandpa dies because no ambulance shows up. Regionalize the response. Five towns of that generate 200 calls a year can be combined into 1 department that handles 1000 calls a year.

Here in New Jersey........ Same issues as Westchester or any where else that has bee staffed by volunteers. The NJ Department of Health, Office of EMS had a company (major player but can't remember the name) and do a study of EMS in NJ. One in a long list of "studies" on EMS in New Jersey. Municipalities have no mandate to provide EMS unlike law enforcement or fire services. One recommendation coming out of the study was giving municipalities the responsibity for proving EMS, 24 hours a day. The State and Assembly drafted legislation which passed both house at the state capital but vetoed by Chris Christie. Apparenlty he realized that assuring EMS delivery across New Jersey was going to cost money. So the budget prevailed and human suffering prevailed. And the volunteers got there way once again.

I would call that a "winshield size up" I would usually give a 360 degree size up even on EMS responses because while the dispatcher might not care, others listening might.

I my area a "working fire" would indicate just that, didn't matter if it was a car, house, strip mall, dumspter (don't laugh, a 40 cubic yard dumpster was one of the hardest fires I ever fought), high rise. To me a sructure fire would mean a working fire in a my area would typically mean a 2.5 story wood frame structure. Any thing other then a 2.5 wfd would usually be get a description added...."a working fire on the 24 story of a concreate multi family dwelling". There really is no standard radio standard around here but people usually get the point across.

Ever hear of the expression “where there is smoke there’s …………! I think you have reason to worry. At best I would try to have a sit down and ask the chief and 2nd Assistant chief and see if they are willing to disclose what they feel the problems are and what dangers they foresee if you take the position.

NJ at Long Beach Medical Center. Through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, New York State requested elements of the NJ EMS Task Force / Hackensack University Medical Center's Mobile Satellite Emergency Department to assist with a long-term recovery operation in Long Beach, New York (Nassau County). This mission objective is to provide temporary, limited emergency department services to Long Beach Medical Center,which was severely compromised as a result of Superstorm Sandy. The current mission length is 14 days, possibly as long as 6 months. This deployment request consists of one (1) Mobile ED - a 43' trailer with expandable sides and one (1) Mobile OR to be used as additional Treatment space. The Mobile ED is equipped to function as an emergency trauma department with Cardiac Monitoring, Defibrillation, Ultrasound, IV Pumps, Ventilators, Suction, Oxygen, high flow infusion, X-Ray, Lab, pacing, Cardioversion, suturing, formulary, medical supplies and carries a supply of potable water, contains a grey water tank and has an onboard generator capable of 72 hrs operation on one tank of diesel fuel. The Mobile OR will be used as additional ED Treatment Space. MSED also includes logistical support. In addition, several EMSTF and MSED support vehicles/trailers and personnel will be on site providing the necessary infrastructure to maintain the operation.

The only two companies I know of that have a formal relationship with FDNY are Richmond Engine 1 and Oceanic, both on Staten Island. Both companies can be found on the SI radio and I include on the box alarms for their areas.

Here in NJ we have the ability to get prioirty fueling at Hess Station for marked emergency vehicles. Three national guard units are proving fuel to marked emergency vehicles. Our lola Raceway stations has been provifing a dedicated lane to marked emergency vehicles. We have had no problem getting fuel for marked emergency vehicles. Might have to look a little harder but as more gas stations get power restoed the better the stuation should become. My town had power restored thsi evening. Many gas stations are now pumping. Better yet I have lights and heat for the first time since Monday evening.

I understand the reason for this is that the NHC does not fel the Sandy will have below tropical condistions, wind<72mph etc.

I was there yesterday and saw a couple of kids reach under the plagues and grabbing the water and splashing but nearby adults (Parents) promptly scolded them. Did act as an impromptu tour guide for a German family. They were very thankful.

I thought the Concorde was retired because it wasn't making economical sense to fly the Concorde anymore. But I guess one couls argue that a crash kinda of tuned people away from Concorde. On 25 July 2000, Air France Flight 4590, a Concorde crashed in Gonesse, France, killing all 100 passengers and nine crew members on board the flight, and four people on the ground. According to the official investigation the crash was caused by a titanium strip that fell from a Continental Airlines DC-10 that had taken off minutes earlier. This metal fragment punctured a tire on Concorde's left main wheel bogie during takeoff. The tire exploded, a piece of rubber hit the fuel tank, and while the fuel tank was not punctured, the impact caused a shock-wave which caused one of the fuel valves in the wing to burst open. This caused a major fuel leak from the tank, which then ignited due to sparking electrical landing gear wiring severed by another piece of the same tire. The crew shut down engine number 2 in response to a fire warning, and with engine number 1 surging and producing little power, the aircraft was unable to gain height or speed. The aircraft entered a rapid pitch-up then a violent descent, rolling left and crashing tail-low into the Hotelissimo Hotel in Gonesse. On 6 December 2010, Continental Airlines and John Taylor, one of their mechanics, were found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. On 10 April 2003, Air France and British Airways simultaneously announced that they would retire Concorde later that year. They cited low passenger numbers following the 25 July 2000 crash, the slump in air travel following 11 September 2001, and rising maintenance costs. Although Concorde was technologically advanced when introduced in the 1970s, 30 years later its analogue cockpit was dated. There had been little commercial pressure to upgrade Concorde due to a lack of competing aircraft, unlike other airliners of the same era such as the Boeing 747. By its retirement, it was the last aircraft in British Airways' fleet that had a flight engineer; other aircraft, such as the modernized 747-400, had eliminated the role.

Certainly no expert in the New York Motor Vehicle Code but I've seen POVs of Hatzolah members with NYS tags that has "ambulance" stamped on them. One of the many societies represented is the first wodzislaw society. Across the street from the Floral Park Cemetery is the Washington Cemetery. Washington Cemetery is a separate cemetery from the Floral Park Cemetery, but both are under the same management. Contrary to popular belief, many of the prominent Rabbis said to be buried in Floral Park Cemetery are actually buried in Washington Cemetery. Leiby Kletzky, 8, who was murdered and dismembered in Brooklyn was also buried here. A important burial here brings out several thousand of people and burias take place 24 hours a day in keeping wit Jewish load. Hatzolahs usually send several ambulances to provide EMS. Little to no woman are involved or attend the burial and there are certainly no woman involved in Hatzolah. Any woman on our units are given the stink eye. Remember the old Hebrew National Hot Dog commericals that ended "we answered to a higher authority" . Same thing can be said of Hatzolah

Good luck. The last volunteer company is belong to fit this description to a T. Older members who had no interest in training. At least they had no interest in showing up for to working fires as well so at least they didn't get in the way. Wish I had some words of wisdom to impart on you but alas you typical have to wait until they die or NFPA, State, Federal laws overwhelm them and force them out of the way.

Move along, nothing to see here. Who knows who is driving this story. PD responds and is confronted with 72 people shot or injured. The Aurora PD is going to do the same thing every other PD in America will do.....starting calling (screaming) for ambulances. Any why not......can't every EMS in the country muster that type of response at a moments notice? At best this sounds like failure of the command element to coordinate incident command. Had the PD branch director been in the position to talk to the EMS branch director on the scene would this have happened? A week of history shows that the danger was controlled within a very short time, but who know that then. Maybe the PD knew that or perhaps they didn't.

I don't think the Aurora FD operated any ambulances as Rural/Metro is thee contracted transport agency, unknown what level they respond with. AFD operate ALS engines (maybe ladders as well)
