  1. Why are there 3 types of ambulances that Miamondies uses? There is a 4 door Ford F-450, a 2 door F-450 and a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter that all have been delivered to MMC. Is one type for medical transport and one type for 911? I would imagine that the 4 door is for long distance non-emergent transport while the 2 door is for 911 and the Benz is for local non-emergent.
  2. Any word on who lost what apparatus and equipment...I know Bedfords mini-attack is OOS blocked in by trees with a limb through its windshield, anyone else lose anything or have apparatus go OOS?
  3. Essex Rescue Squad, Essex Vermont M/A NYC out of Fort Dix, NJ on a FEMA Strike Team.
  4. What would the rangers have to do with it? I heard the once the NHL approved it, it was a done deal...any link to the source saying the rangers must approve it?
  5. it was only a matter of time once the voters in Nassau defeated the renovation of the Nassau Coliseum and the Barclay's center opened. Won't happen until the 2015-2016 season apparently either.
  6. A bit is an understatement, Windows 8 is coming out in a week.
  7. So what you are saying is that this community should disregard part of its protected religious identity and tradition so that they can have public safety services they do not want? What about Farmer Jones, should he be forced to have public safety services that we doesn't want for no other reason than he is not protected adequately?
  8. And you would be thinking wrong. The Hasidic communities are more interested and concerned with jewish religious and cultural identity than proper firefighter techniques. They are more concerned about not having their enclave "invaded" by outsiders than they are any standards. Hatzolah is another example, most ultra orthodox jews would much rather wait for a jewish emt in 5 minutes to assist them than a christian medic now. The Kiryas Joel community members are fine with having substandard service because they know it is their own helping them as opposed to random strangers. These communities do not have the same values as you, does that make them wrong? No
  9. Hang ups and 911 non-sense aside, I believe that in todays day and age it is essential that 911 dispatchers and call takers have the ability to send and receive text messages and emails from parties interested in reaching emergency services. I can think of several examples where a text message or email would be incredibly helpful. For example, there are locations on this planet, and even in suburban westchester where I can not send or receive a cell phone call but can certainly send or receive text messages. If I were involved in an MVA in one of these areas, I would be able to text for help instead of being stuck with a brick for a communication device. Additionally, if I were to be followed home while walking, instead of alerting the predator to my intention to communication to LEOs by speaking on the phone, I simply text 911 my location, whats happening and a description of the individual and I could have a RMP patrolling the area without even giving the perp notice I was on to him. Another example is if you saw a crime in progress or a stolen car, one could simply text the location or a picture with a location to 911 and have an officer sent over. All in all, I would hope that despite the potential for abuse, it todays day and age where cell phones, text messages and wireless connectivity are so common place, the ability to communicate with emergency services via text would be a great assist to emergency services and the public that we serve.
  10. The bid process distinctly has time lengths associated with it and thus any firm inflating their time projection will simply be not selected to complete the work. Heres the real question: Is it worth spending a little extra to have such a major renovation completed early allowing to decrease the traffic and inconvenience along one of the largest and busiest arteries in Westchester Co.? My answer is certainly yes.
  11. I know in VT, back child support or tax payments can result in having professional certification pulled. It is a means to ensure that back payments are made and only those reputable to hold such positions do so.

  13. With Ridgefield less than 5 miles away with a staffed tower ladder why again does SSFD need a ladder?
  14. Lets not forget, that this study was done on pts already in the hospital, i.e. they are in the post-surgical or ortho or onocology wards when cardiac arrest occurred, not at their homes/businesses/public. While this study will obviously have long term impacts on pre-hospital CPR, this current study excluded pre-hopsital CPR attempts from their sampling group. That is not to say however that this is not exciting news in EMS however.

  16. Its actually out of Newport, Vt in Orleans County. Chittenden, Lamoille, and Washington Counties will be lending O.C.S.D. spare cars until replacements can come it. OCSD is mainly a prisoner transport and highway detail agency. http://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/article/20120803/NEWS/308030010/Police-say-farmer-who-crushed-police-cruisers-his-tractor-armed?odyssey=tab|topnews|img|FRONTPAGE

  19. Rest In Peace While I never got to know him in person, after years of interacting with him here I feel like I really got to know him. I will certain long for his well informed, reasoned and educated posts in the months and years that come. He gave a dose of sanity to at times what is certainly an insame board.
  20. Obviously a different topic than the shooting in CO but the acceleration of aerial drone surveillance programs of American citizens on American soil, similar to what is done in Pakistan, Yemen, Iran, North Korea, Somalia, Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan does come to mind when police state is mentioned....
  21. Its funny, I have the almost exact opposite opinion. I am not, nor should any one else be afraid of incidents like this. You never see mass murders at comic-con, and at comic-con there are probably 100 times as many people dressed up in costume or in character. This incident was the work of one crazed individual in one specific location, I bet this was one of only a few acts of violence at all of the thousands of movie premiers last night. This could have happened anywhere in the US and anywhere in the world. I do not nor will not let mad men like this nutcase ruin my fun. I will walk with my head high in the movies tonight unafraid, I will not be intimidated by the crazies in life and neither should you.
  22. A smart meter is a meter that sends real time information about individual and community wide power usage back to the power company so that the power company can increase or decrease supply based on demand and adjust prices accordingly. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_meter
