Yes, but do you realize how many $10 donations you need to secure to offset a single donation from someone like the Koch Brothers? (I'll give you a hint, it's a lot.)
By most reputable estimates, Walker took in $31 million in donations to Barrett's $4 million in fundraising. Outside spending from Walker-aligned PAC's also far outpaced Barrett's.
Not too many union members can drop tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars in political contributions on a whim. I know I can't.
The irony here is actually fascinating. In your previous posts you argued that unions have too much power and influence. But now, you have a case study which proves the rich can easily swamp union members in terms of donations. Kind of undercut's your entire argument, no?
And gamewell's point is correct. You amalgamating private and public sector unions.

Couple shots I took at the Airport Open House from last week. The gem of the trip was to see the new Crash Truck they acquired last year!

and x129k I totally agree links that might be questionable should include a mandatory NSFW tag or line. I too opened that at work, thankfully it was on my personal computer but had a manager or field boss seen it they would have hit the ceiling.

Ok just to clear some stuff up here it is not used at all as a response vehicle nor will any member of the FD be driving it...also it is not owned by the FD.
The project was ok'd by the Mayor of Glen Cove and the City attorney to wear the Glen Cove FD name. It is a publicity stunt on part of the owner who is very supportive of the FD. It was created in part to be show cased in the FD's 175th anniversary parade this June. No money from the FD budget or the City of Glen Cove was used to create it. The owner is also a sponsor of the FD's car show and cruise nights it has been hosting. As for the use of the apparatus floor and model I guess this was ok'd by the city. It could be any firehouse. I guess the FD's that allow the female models to model in those fire girl calenders in gear and on the rigs are doing something very naughty as well. Shame on them also. Good God get over it. You see much worse then this just going to the beach nowadays or the front page of the Daily News!! Boy the new generation of....never mind.

Seriously? My post on this thread was deleted? Is it not unreasonable to ask for a work warning heads up reference a link that shows a topless girl in bunker pants? What if I opened that link with a Boss in the room? Bravo is allowed....Breasts are not.
Guess looking out for a Brother is a thing of the past?

Respectfully, I share my opinion with all that care to listen including the staff of this forums. I welcome the opportunity to work with the staff and the members of this forum to improve it for all members, past, present and future as well as career and volunteer as well as FD/EMS/LEO. Much like in festivus, it requires the airing of the grievances in order to get all of the issues out on the table so that we can begin a professional and worthwhile discussion on how to improve this site. Hopefully by discussing what we want improve and how to improve it, we as a community can move forward to a point beyond the us verse them attitude that exists currently and end the apparent confusion in my mind of A job verse THE job that many of us have allowed to become engrained.

I just think they want to make this site something that it will never be. It is what it is....a buff site. Not a training site...not a cutting edge tech site...it's a buff site that "used" to have good posters with lots of knowledge and experience that we COULD learn from..if we wanted to. I know personally I have.

Looks like Rescue Me with Chase from House instead of Denis Leary. So long as they stick to the firehouse and don't bring in anyone the nonsense that Rescue Me did, I figure it will have moderate success, at least among our circles. But if I get even a whiff of any sort of Rescue Me type drama, I will certainly be finished with it. All of that being said, it looks amazingly poorly researched...I lost track of the number of things that they did wrong in that three minute clip. From the diving from the bridge to the car accident to the patient in the back of the ambulance to structure fire, it looks like they did more things wrong than right...

No one ever said they did it well. FDNY and LAFDCo are the model, everyone else is an imitator...

Why would/should they? This is nothing more than the annual scare tactic from bloomturd. Every year its close 20 houses and every year the money is found else where and no houses close. It been like that for at least 4 years now. Second, your saying that each truck company should be 33% less effective at their job, putting firefighter and civilian lives at risk? For what reason? To prevent the non-happening closure of 20 houses? One of the hallmarks of the FDNY and the reason why NYC has among the lowest fire deaths, property loss and fire department services tax per capita in its history is the fact the FDNY is so well staffed, trained and equipped. Imagine what would happen to your truck co, your department, your citizens and your municipality if you cut your truck company in 1/3 truck12345.
I think you should get a better idea of how and why the FDNY staffs and functions as it does before you make wildly uninformed suggestions about how the FDNY should be run...your no better than those who seek to cut the 20 companies...

Your average brick in a brick house will expose you to more radiation a year than several chest x-rays. Each brick is roughly 7mrem/yr while a chest x-ray is roughly 1mrem/scan.
Had a load of bricks gone past the sensor, im sure that too would have set off the detector.
Im sure the reason why they cant bring them into underground places or places with high stone/brick/masonry is all of the radioactive elements naturally in the ground or included in the stone building material.
I dare anyone to take a scintillation detector and hold it up to any random brick, I am sure the radiation levels would be much higher than you expected.
I work with a form of radiation in one way or another almost every day, I am not afraid if it, what does amaze me however is how misinformed we as first responders are.
