This unique fire station is located in Washington Township, Dublin, Ohio. Due to economics and property availibility, this dual purpose structure has a fire station on the bottom two floors and a 900,000 gallon water storage tank above. It houses an engine company and ambulance. Photo by Howard Peiffer

I was driving through Trophy Club, Texas yesterday when I happened to see that the Circus had set up shop in the parking lot of the Country Club. Curious to know what it was, I pulled in and parked. It happened to be Trophy Club's fire station.

They have a Engine, Brush Truck, Medic, and Quint parked inside.

There's a mobile home set up next to the tent for their living quarters.

The reason for this is because they tore down the old station to build this new station on the same lot as the old one. This new station is set to open this Summer.

I have to respectfully disagree. In this age of modern communications, I think the sirens are a thing of the past. If they were so necessary, why would career FD's and PD agencies not "need" them? If you need "two forms of notification", your pager and cell phone text message should suffice. The siren may be a tradition, but let's not fool ourselves into thinking it's the only way to get the job done.

You may feel like it's a "money making scam" but when you have to work along the road especially highways you realize how dangerous it really is. Slowing down and moving over that takes up maybe 5 SECONDS of your life but it can help make sure that the emergency worker your passing can go home to his/her family at the end of the day.
People think that safety is a joke until their life is affected due to the lack of it!

It's a little bulky, but the Mini 5 is remarkably easy to program with free software and a $10 cable from ebay. I can't set the time on my microwave but I was able to reprogram a M5 with four completely different settings for two different FDs in under 60 seconds my first time trying.

I agree. Sometimes, good people get caught in the middle of bad things, or good people do bad things during desperate times like stealing to provide for a hungry family. Everyone deserves a second chance to prove they are sorry, and regret what they did and repay their debt to society, why not allow them to do so in a productive way? These guys ran out into the water and attempted to save lives by putting their own life on the line...do you think real ruthless criminals would have done the same?
We have a correctional facility that deals with teenaged offenders and they always come out to large brush fires to help with mop-up. They take the less-violent ones that have had some rehab and train them in wildland firefighting, than they come out and assist us hit hot spots and clean up. We have never had an issue with them.

OFD arrived with ladder 41, Engine 97, Engine 100 ,2331 and 2334. and 25 Ossining Firefighters. There were no Sing Sing Fire brigade members. OFD was escorted in and a count was taken of the FF. There was no delay upon arrival. We arrived at the block and was advised by corrections officers that there was a loud pop followed by smoke and then the electric going out. Once the keys to an exterior door and gate was obtained, a 2 1/2 was stretched through the door and down a set of stairs where the smoke was coming from. The stairs lead down to a utility hallway that housed steam pipes and electrical conduit. 3/4 of the way down the hall the fire was located (with T.I.C.) in an electrical room. Upon a second confirmation that the power to the block was shut off, the room was entered and a large junction box on the ceiling containing feeder cables were burning along with combutibles on the floor, The fire was extinguished and the smoke was evacuated from the building.
Upon leaving the complex, the FF were counted and the apparatus' examined. There was no contact with inmates, many of them were still in their cells until they were evacuated. The operation went well without incident.

Why not there are some Dept.s that have the commercial EMS contracted to their areas respond on AFA's. What use in a Ambulance at a fire if the Engine is 15 minutes behind them consoling the home owner as they watch their house burn down?

Could you imagine what was going through the minds of the firemen whose station this boy was brought to?
The very same firemen who have been FIGHTING to keep their jobs and their firehouses open.
The VERY same men who already worked severely understaffed.
Now they get thrown into a situation as tragic as this.
Understaffed, underappreciated, and under constant attack by the general public and politicians, yet 100 percent professional. Job well done NFD. Know that you ARE appreciated by some, and so many of us have your backs.
Pay attention Brothers....as recent events have proven, it's no longer where; it's truly when.

I'm not sure how many of you out there have had to deal with incidents involving children but in sure it's a few and unfortunately I have to admit that i'm apart of that group. I know the feeling that come with the loss of a child. My heart goes out to the NFD and NPD members that had to respond to this tragedy. It was a senseless taking of three young and innocent lives. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and the first responders.
