I don't care for raised roof rigs. The flat roof'd Pierce Lances that have become popular in the mid Atlantic I like a lot. Super short wheelbase, basic engine company compartmentation, flat roof.
It's been a while since I've packed up in the back, but I'll tell you honestly that if being able to stand up is a priority while your heading out the road to a working job with the radio squaking then I'm not sure that you are focused on the right things. The only time you should need to stand is when your feet hit the curb. The busiest FD's in the world have done without raised roof cabs for a century. Not sure why we'd spend money on them now.

I am guessing the new chassis name has been contained within their advertising campaign for the past several months “the LEGACY grows.."
Still can’t understand why the industry is encouraging cathedral-like crew cab roofs and our business end is trying to keep member's seated while in motion.
Sometimes it is like we are driving in different directions.
But, as long as it is shiny....right?

    X,
I would agree that success should be based on sincerity and accuracy; in a perfect world. I believe in that principle. However, if we are to be truly realistic the bottom line is getting the grant, at least for them. If they were sincere and factual in their motivations, they would not have received the award. It irks me that another department probably in CT that sincerely and accurately need the funding may have been denied it.
Their grant writer is successful. Politicians are successful. It is all about perceptions, not truth. However, isn't that the goal, success? I only wish at times that my goal were to be always successful. I am to a fault though, striving to be sincere and accurate. At least as fellow fire fighters and leaders among each other I consider myself successful by being sincere and accurate. There can be no other way in our line of work. Agreed?

    Pete:
I think we will both agree that “if something appears to be too good to be true....then it probably is not...."
In this case, far from it.
    TR:
I would disagree with the idea that the author of the grant should be complimented.
Success should be determined by sincerity and accuracy. What I read was completely disingenuous with regard to the fire service response system that has been in place for more than five years.

The high pressure engines were bid as a separate order than the standard engine bid.
Seagrave is building the high pressure rigs, KME is in the process of building the first of two split tilt cabs for the FDNY standard Engine order.
As already stated by M'Ave and others here, unlike "some" local FDs around here and their interpretation of a bidding process, it is all about the Benjamin's and KME was nearly 100k lower than Seagrave for the Engine bid.
The first KME rig is for FDNY acceptance.
The second is being built by KME for independent crash testing as this is new type of cab for KME.
KME is capable of filling large orders as their past track record with LA County and LA City would show, but the new design of the cab and acceptance/testing process has slowed their normal build time down a bit.
Time will tell what happens next.

Tonight @ 21:00 the Plattekill Fire Department was dispatched for a PIAA on the NYS Thruway at mile marker 71.1 South Bound. Car 1, Car 3, Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 4, 645 and 47-36 where all responding when @ 21:11 We were advised that Engine 4 was involved in a Motor Vehicle Accident, roll over with entrapment.
I have a been some sort of a chief officer for 13 years now, in the fire service for 21 years and never once did I instantly feel like I was going to vomit while responding to an incident...not until last night. I can tell you there are so many things that are going through your head after receiving an alarm involving your own...
What do I do? Whom do I call? How difficult is the extrication? What Happened? What did they hit? Who is in the truck? But the toughest question, the one that still rings in my head is "Are they alive?"
I will not speak of specifics. I will not release the details of this incident and I will let the authorities finish their investigation. But what I can tell you, 4 of the 5 firefighters have been released. Engine 4 is a total loss and the definition of brotherhood was re-taught to me through the actions of area fire departments and fire departments through out the state.
Cronomer Valley whom handled the incident...Thank you!!! Your professionalism went a long way tonight. You are our brothers and for you I am thankful. With out getting into every department that has reached out to us, because I can guarantee someone with be forgotten, whether it be at either at our stations or through phone calls, I had 132 missed calls, Thank you!!! Never have I had such an out pouring of support just for us.
I ask you, do you know what it is like to have to sit at the back of your vehicle trying to coordinate different responses while your Firefighters need YOUR help? Not something I EVER want to handle again.
For years we instill into our memberships heads...Seat belts, seat belts, SEAT BELTS... and on November 2nd 2013 @ 21:11, those seat belts saved their lives.
At St. Francis Hospital...the support continued. Fairview, Roosevelt, Arlington Fire Departments, with Engines, and Lisa Gardner, whom provided me with very informative updates, met the inbound ambulances to assist with ANYTHING we needed, ANYTHING. Tears is the word that best described how I was after I was notified of your support! I cant say thank you because thank you doesn't cover your actions. I owe you... period.
At 1:21 we called back in service, My membership continuing to want to help the community, knowing that what we seen tonight could have been completely different.
We will continue serving the community, we are Plattekill. We ARE Plattekill Strong.
I ask no one post NO Photos or post no details until the investigation is complete and I approve of such postings.
    Thank you Everyone.
    Chief Christopher Mancuso

It is clear that Pete is only trying to use this thread in order to try and create new friction to the situation. Poising questions to rank and file members of the Stamford Fire and Rescue Department about the future direction of their Department serves absolutely no purpose.
It is akin to asking the average soldier at the Food Court in Afghanistan what he feels about the strategic plan and future US operations with the Karzai government. While he/she may have an opinion, unless they are also a member of the Joint Chiefs or Centcom, it is really irrelevant. As a soldier, he/she will follow the direction and orders of their superiors (i.e. basic military chain of command).
While you can use the term “free exchange”, this forum is not the official word or position of the Stamford Fire Rescue Administration. I am fairly sure that you know how to get to 629 Main Street or the meetings of the Charter Revision Committee at 888 Washington Boulevard.
I would bet that the people serving in their official capacities at those locations would be the proper authority and route for you to find answers for this new “regime” (interesting choice of words). Unless you would rather troll for anonymous opinions from those that have absolutely nothing to do with the strategic decisions of an organization that does not yet exist.

Sorry Pete.....thats how I see it.....trolling and hoping that someone spouts off with something for you to yell "gotcha".
We continue to demonstrate that the parties involved in the delivery of fire services can work and train together. It may not be what they nay-sayers want to hear, but we successfully ran another joint training session in Turn of River this past Monday. As a personal witness to this and several previous such drills, I really always walk away wondering why our energies could not have been more properly directed for all of this time?
So the challenge is we can either rant on the keyboard for an eternity or we can step up and start anew?
I am comfortable standing behind my record. Anyone else want to offer a better suggestion?
