  1. There are several topics being discussed in this thread. I looked for the thread where I had read that inappropriate question and I don''t see it. My thoughts were that this site was for learning and asking questions of each other. (Information Sharing)The member who asked the question had no educational reason to want more info, he wanted to know because he was being curious. He wasn't the first or the last person to ever want more info. The "Buff" comes out in everybody. The awkwardness comes from the members of those departments who were at the incident. Not many Fire Departments have a public information officer, generally I believe in Dutchess County that person is the Chief staff. The problem lies on who gives the authority to release information to the public. Sure if the information is picked up in scanner world then I guess it's fair game. The concern that I have is anyone from an individual agency regardless of the type should be careful of what they post. Some information just should not be posted or broad casted. Again the site was meant for members to use it as an learning tool. There are obviously members of the media on the site, isn't it "truck4" who post's incidents that are false so the media posts on the Buff page networks? The media is taking the information it finds here and they are writing there own stories. Maybe that information was not meant for public knowledge with out a press release or a FOIL request.
  2. I am not, however my uncle is N2EYH, Rich Bodin. He is very active in the Dutchess County area.

  4. The system is set up as a default, you hit a speed dial programmed in your phone, once you hear the voice message you can just hang up. no buttons no destractions. Now there are options for 1-9 but even pressing one button and hanging up is not going to cause an issue.
  5. That's working back wards! Maybe thats why dispatchers weren't given a thought when it came to 20 years.

  7. Just some clarification, there is one test to take. There are two agencies in Dutchess County where you can apply for. The City of Poughkeepsie 911 Center and The Dutchess County 911 Center. If you wish to be on the list for "both" agencies then you need to request both applications and pay the fee for each. ($15.00 each) In the past you only had to apply to take the test and be on one list. This is no longer the case, you need to apply for each seperate agency. If you would like to be considered for employment. Any Questions please let me know. Chris Bodin Senior Public Safety Dispatcher, City of Poughkeepsie 911. Please POST the test announcements in your Fire Departments, Police Departments, and EMS Agencies. here is the link:Dutchess County Personnel Exam List
  8. Go to Amazon.com and search dispatcher study guide I found one for Public Safety Dispatcher I. It will be similar and OK to read, just keep in mind, New York did not create the study guide you may find the test completely different.
  9. There is only one exam for Public Safety Dispatcher, If you google civil service study guides or check your local book store there are books out there. I do not recall if there is one that is specific to dispatching. I know there are Firefighter and Police Officer books. The dispatcher exam covers a little bit of everything from map reading, listening comprehension, Reading comprehension. Some Common Sense type questions. The Dutchess County Personnel office may have something as well. Any Questions I will be glad to assist. X129K will also i'm sure as well. Chris Bodin
