  1. My paid dept. near Boston does not require EMT certification. However, there is a bump in pay if you become one. We are trained by the dept. as first responders. We respond to all EMS calls in the city as first responders. Transport is contracted out to a private company which provides ALS.
  2. Boston Police have a similar style boat. Delivered in 2004, I believe. Has twin outboard engines, though.
  3. Any word on how he's doing? No mention of story in Boston newspapers.
  4. You are in uniform, with a police vehicle. On or off duty, act like the professional you are supposed to be.
  5. We have the new VESTA system up in the Boston area. I actually like it better than the old system, although I'm not on it alot.
  6. Does this mean personnel come off a first line piece for a STAR Car run leaving it understaffed for a fire?
  7. It's possible Boston still has a few in use Downtown. They were (are??) flush mounted in the street with a manhole type cover on it. Apparatus carried the Lowry "Chuck" on the backstep, popped the cover and placed the "chuck" into the riser.
  8. SAWX, baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Smoke in the area gets 1 engine in my city.
  10. From NYS DOT website: https://www.nysdot.gov/portal/page/portal/d...es/help-program Combination of DOT employees and contractors.
  11. A couple of things. One is that Superbowl commercials are shot very close to the actual event, which is 4.5 months away. Second, they are inserted into the broadcast from a network master control room in either NYC or LA, not from local affiliate stations.
  12. In the city I work in near Boston, we are fortunate to have a tow company with heavy duty tows similar to this garaged in our city. They also have a large utility type truck with air bags and other gear for tractor trailer roll overs, etc. They respond on request, and are usually on scene very quickly. I believe they bill the owners of the involved vehicles and may also bill the city. Very much like Stiloski's in Westchester.
  13. Any firefighter should have the basic knowledge that this is not good. Any chief officer who puts his firefighters in this situation should have to answer the question, WHY?
  14. Where I work apparatus have jugs of water on board. On multiple alarms and also on request at other incidents, our contracted EMS provider responds with a Incident Support Unit that has water. ice. cold towels and other supplies. The regional transit authority will on request send an air conditioned bus. Our state Dept. of Fire Services also has a air conditioned Rehab Bus that will respond, however, the eta to our city is a bit extended.
  15. I know it's a bit off the subject, but... Bad movie, bad acting, awful portrayal of fire service. (Sorta like Backdraft) Kevin James plays the exact same character in "King of Queens", only he's a truck driver, not a truckie...
