The next class will be starting February 5th at the Brookfield Fire Headquarters. Just a cross the lake. Your dept should be getting a notice right after the 1st of the year. This is a well run class with a good mix of instructors . If you do not see or hear anything pm me around the middle of January and I'll register you. As you might have guessed, I'm one of the instuctors. This class is usually followed up with a firefighter 2 class the following September. Look forward to seeing you in class.

  15. We used 100" rubber lengths in the mid 80' .....all gone by the 90's. It was a pain to store as rolls. We never saw any advantage and phased out.
  16. In Connecticut, the light program is as follows: red /white & siren for chief officers, 3 permits issued by DMV for each fire dept for thier pov's. Many FD's in Ct do not have chiefs vehicles. blue - volunteer firefighters green - vac red lights may be used by duly sworn firepolice officers while thier pov is used to block traffic, direct traffic and only when the vehicle is NOT in motion.
  17. I've read the book. It makes you think about a lot of stuff. In as much as they operate outside the US, they were heavily involved in New Orleans as well. What is scary, that a mercenery army can operqate inside our borders.
  18. Bethel Ct - longest distance
  19. My wife dragged me to it, I thought I was not going to enjoy it, BUT It was good and worth seeing. Not to give any of the movie away, but the UK part, I can attest to it as I once benefited from thier care as well.
  20. Rest in Pease
  21. We have a pretty good written plan for tanker shuttles. Although it can and has been modified by the incident commander. Our non hydrant area was divided up into 7 water supply points, each area having a primary water supply and back up watersupply. Careful consideration was made to include that each district had no more then a 3 mile turn around and that a well laid out route was in place that kept the tankers moving in a loop. water supply is mainly from hydrants and some in-ground tanks [10@ 15,000 gallons each]. we do not rely on ponds, streams or other natural water sources. initial response Eng-5 [1000 gallon]to the scene, if knoing a worker, lays a supply line from nearest intersection or driveway to scene Tanker 1 [2500 gallon]goes to nearest intersection and drops fold-a-tank and proceeds to scene to nurse e-5, once emptied it goes for water and becomes part of the shuttle eng-6 [1000 gallon] sets up the folding tank and prepares for a draft eng-2 [2000 gallon] dumps into the tank and proceeds for water eng-1 [750 gallon] stages with e-6 in the event of a failure - crew assist with suppresion Once it is determined that a tanker shuttle is needed, a specific mutual aid run card is used, calling 4 tankers to the scene and one to cover. It also calls for 3 engines, 1 to a pre determined water source to fill tankers and 2 to cover. If we do not need to go into a tanker shuttle, then tanker 1 and eng 2 nurse engine 5. Usually we call in one tanker to back them up . All of our mutual aid tankers are 2500 gallons or more.
  22. First, lets hope and think about the firefighter.... lets hope he makes a speedy recovery Then.... what about the brakes..?? were the maxi's engaged ? Doesnt sound like it . As for E-one, we dont know for sure if it was. remember everything under the body was built by some-one else. Since it popped out of gear, why dont we bash the tranny or pump maker ? If the brakes failed why dont we bash bendix ? By the way, my dept has an E-one and we would by another one.
  23. I went through the airport as well yesterday, saw them there early in the morning and then they were still there when I left around 1 p.m. ... Made me think as well. One of them was actually in the travel portion of the road. Any thing could have touched them off.
  24. Our Engines are pretty much set up the same.. each has a primary role in town as well as mutual aid: Eng 5 first run engine in our district, attack engine. Eng 6 our second due engine in our district is set up as a hose wagon. It is 3rd due across town . Hence we call it the "cross town express" Each has a 50 gallon foam tank with thru the pump capability. Each carries 2 PPV fans Each has its own comb/gas meter Each has 7 air pakc and 7 spare bottles Each has its own TIC Each carries the NFPA 1901 standard for firefighting equipment . the main difference is that Eng 6 has 2000' of 5" the other differernce is the amount of pre connects 6 vs 4 the first due carries a chain saw, the 2nd due[mutual aid] does not. When this rig is called for, it is usaully needed for supply. In the few times it is used in a cover situation, it has enough equipment to perform the role of a first due engine.
