  4. Just to give you more background. We have had a formal live-in program for approx 25 years. We had a non-formal program going back to the 70's. I participated for 2.5 years and would never look back and regret it. When I lived-in we had about 12 live-ins and about 6 other transient live-ins for 18 guys at almost any given time. There was NOTHING we could not accomplish. At the time we ran 2 engines, 2 ambos, and the truck. It was not uncommon for us to triple pull on the initial alarm. At the time we had very few home responders. We currently have 7 live-ins and a large contingency of home responders, because several of us from years past have bought homes in town. Over the years, We have made boys into men and taught many of them important life skills that their parents handled, we even helped several get their drivers license. It is a true pleasure to make a positive impact on a young mans / womans life and show them that they can be successful. The experience the live-in members have received from the program have been instrumental in them getting hired in other agencies such as: DC FIRE, Frederick VA, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Hampton Co Va, Howard Co MD, Bainbridge Island Washington State, and even in FLA. Take away the out of state career agencies, because of the reputation we have, it has helped MANY of our members with MANY other opportunities and jobs in various trades and EMS agencies locally. It is very much worth it. If you can post it in your firehouses for some of the young guys that are looking for a career and better opportunities in life, tell them to call or email us. The email is wrong on the info sheet. membership5@mvfd5.com is the correct email. Stay Safe ! Chris Grimes Vice President / Lieutenant Past President Life Member

  8. as a PA FF / EMT just as a note into this discussion. In PA, fire apparatus are allowed to run red lights but ems units are not. EMS units are to stop at stop signs and red lights prior to proceeding. In my town, Monroeville, PA. We utilize the 3M Opticom Light Control System. It works well but if its windy, exceptionally sunny, snowing, foggy, etc.. Forget it... back to old school driving. Now if you follow the EVOC classes, which you will be held to in court, you best follow those recommeded actions. I found that once i had children, i slowed down when driving, and become more cognesent of my actions.

  12. Certification of Pro-Tech 8 Glove Withdrawn ________________________________________ April 9, 2008 The TechTrade Pro-Tech 8™ glove had been certified by the Safety Equipment Institute (SEI) as compliant with the applicable 2007 Edition of the NFPA 1971 standard. Recently, however, NFPA issued a formal interpretation that clarified language pertaining to the Heat and Thermal Shrinkage Resistance Test. As a result, the Pro-Tech 8 glove was re-tested according to the procedure set out in the formal interpretation, and there was a noncompliance. Based on this new information, SEI staff has recommended that the glove be decertified and has removed the product from the SEI list of certified products. At its next meeting, the SEI Board of Directors will review the staff's decertification decision and decide what, if any, further action by SEI or the Manufacturer will be required. Please direct any questions to TechTrade (info@techtradellc.com, 212-481-2515).

  17. I have a few questions to all of you from the METRO NYC Area (except NYC Proper) 1. Is there centralized 911 and dispatch communications in westchester / orange / LI area etc or does each agency self dispatch after call transfer? In the various counties i see on radio reference that each fire co / fire dist / towns / ems agencies have their own radio freq. And the county has its own freq's 2. Westchester has county 800 system.. do all of the companies operate on this or their own respective freq. How many towns / fd's / ems agencies are operating on different radio bandwidths. I have read a very few posts on the trunk thread that the system is taxed with users and not enough channels. 3. What occurs in these areas if you call 911? Please shed some light... then i will share my area's issues / dilema.. Thanks..
