  1. No entrapment at this rollover, driver was out of truck upon my arrival, yes JBE you have me in pictures. Nice job by tow truck guys in righting this fully loaded cement truck. Oh Yeah while responding we had reports of semi and car pinned under but as you can see just a rollover.
  2. Chris192 the process for 3/4 disablity requires appearances by the firefighter in front of a 3man board of doctors who determine duty status, whether full duty, lught duty or lss(limited service status). Then after a period of time the firefighter goes in front of the 12 man board and a final determination is made. Ie: 3/4 or regular 1/2 pay or schoenk decision which I still dont understand. The Unions may have some input on these boards but it is a group of doctors who make the final decision. Also you have the right to appeal if you deem necessary. I wish the NYPost article would have mentioned this, but alas they make it seem like a buddy buddy thing granted in a back door room by firefighters.
  3. Was working today and had response up by Lehman College for fire, enroute Battalion and units told of explosion report and smoke coming from engine of airplane. Seems like the flock of seagulls was in van cortlandt park area and in fact flew directly into Plane engines causing at least one engine to explode in fire and cease operating. Returning to quarters heard Manhattan report of confirmed plane down in Hudson. Thankfully all surivived. Imagine the tragedy that could have occurred if plane was forced down over Bronx or upper Manhattan populated areas.
  4. Engine 43 and 63 rigs should be in service soon, Engine 81 started training, Engine 92 is last one to be delivered in original order of 30. Next year 20 more or so to continue replacing 98 year apparatus.
  5. Height of rig is 10'8" about 2 inches higher than older seagraves. Has plenty of pep with new bigger engine, hose storage is basically same, compartments also same, change is in front of rig where members ride. taller crew cab and many features added. MDT in crew part so members can see what they r responding to. Like any new equipment initial problems will be worked out and addressed.
  6. As A Proud Member of FDNY for over 25 years please define overstaffed Firepunk. I dont know where you work or with whom you are affiliated but how can make such a statement. I personally am not offended I am angered by a remark such as this, you obviously have never had to stretch 15 lengths of hose up 6 stories and operate, or force multiple doors on a fire floor. We are fighting to keep a time tested manpower number and you say overstaffed. Back it up or shut up..................
  7. Wow 5 Years, keep up the great work.
  8. The Probies are going out alphabetically to selected 4 man engines for 1 week, work 9 til 5 5days. Then next group goes and so on.Starts week of Oct. 6 thru 10, then i assume the 13 thru 17. Have a list of what they can and cannot do, but it should be a good experience for them to see routine and training in field. I think they have made Probie school way to long and have difficulty in last weeks to fill time.JMO
  9. A real mish mash of apparatus there, Mack's, American LaFrance and Compac and all Lime Yellow too boot.
  10. CIDS through the normal channels takes a week or so usually. If CIDS is needed ASAP it can be done by Deputy Chief via phone call and fax to CIDS desk for immediate entry. This has been done in my area when a complex of high rises has has standpipe placed OOS for repairs, a CIDS card was filled out with changes in water supply and entered right away. After repairs just filled out new "old" card and everything back to original info. This is good for a problem that will last for a few days or weeks. However normal water issues from DEP sometimes get sent to firehouses and most times they do not. So when a main goes down for repair, or hydrant OOS it is sometimes not known until our arrival and need for hydrants.
  11. I hope some changes can be made to the bronx BARB, some locations that have been changed are ridiculous. My hope is someone really reads requests for change and gets them done. Seems like they look at a map and pick closest on paper without routes being considered. Many companies are appealing but we shall see.
  12. At a High Rise Job the 2nd due Officer assumes a position at the Standpipe to ensure water is flowing and operating correctly. This also allows unit integrity as the 1 st due control man can now operate with unit in advancing charged line. The 2nd due Engine Officer also is considered water resource meaning he should verify if 1st due has a good hydrant and that his unit is also on a good hydrant in case of problems. Once this is done he goes about his job in assisting in advance of first line, stretching 2nd line if situation warrants, not actually relieved as water resource Officer. Not sure when BC is assigned as Water Resource they have changed names of BC's on multiple alarms, (resource leader, command post, operation chief) to name a few. What really has to happen is coordination of resources and if a water issue of a serious nature happens Officers must delay members entering areas without water protection.
  13. The dispatchers at this time only notify the Incident Commander about job duration. The time lapsed from arrival til progress reports are given. They have no way of knowing about water problems unless a signal 10-70 is transmitted. The on scene Chiefs have to be aware of water issues that occur, pump problems, burst length or any unusual problem. The dispatchers have enough to do. Even if 10-70 is transmitted a dispatcher has no way of knowing when positive water has been established at the scene unless told by on scene chiefs. The idea is good but has to be implemented at fire scene by on scene command, they are hearing handi-talkie messages and no what is going right or not going good.
  14. Yes Haz Mat does get 12% I forgot about them. My Bad.
  15. For the record here only 5 Rescue Companies, 7 Squad Companies and the 4 Haz Tech Engines receive the 12%. The Rescue and Haz Mat Battalions also receive the 12%. No other units receive the 12% the Decon Engines, SOC Support Trucks, CPC Trucks are not compensated at all.
  16. The High Pressure Pumper is a separate rig scheduled for 8 Engine, not part of the 70 2000gpm pumoers, original order was 69 but E-311 was totalled a few months ago by tractor trailer and 1 pumper was added on to contract.
  17. All units due for new engines will be getting these. The decision was made to for 2000gpm pumpers and fdny wants to able to draft in real emergencies. Such as 9/11 when most of mains in that area were broken and water supply was an issue. lines were stretched from boats to supply pumpers at wtc. The fdny now will have the capability to use these pumpers to draft and also to be able to relay for great distances if need arises. Also cab is open cab interior no windows between front and back. 2 seats behind officer and chauff. 2 seats inside cab face forward but not located at entry point more middle of cab.
  18. Try Amazon.com for the HDMI cables or just search internet for lowest price. Most cables can be found much cheaper on internet. HDMI is the way to go for best signals.
  19. Hope you r using HDMI cable from cable box, that is best cable to use. I think ur TV has an HDMI port.
  20. SteveOFD FYI most FDNY members work 24 hours shifts usually starting on the night tour and ending on the day tour. 6:00 PM start 6:00 PM finish. Our tours are 9 hour days and 15 hour nights. Day tours referred to as 9x6 are just that 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Night tours are 6x9 meaning 6:00 PM start and 9:00 AM finish. In our work cycle we have to do 1 Up and Down 24 due to the way our group chart works. If you want further info on how chart works ask and I will try to inform. PS obviously we mutual tours in order to work the 24's. Usually with a steady partner who is in an opposite group than you in order to work the 24's.

  22. Just a point of information for those who may not know, the Term Last Resort in using this "Escape Ladder" is as it is stated. When climbing down this ladder the sections of the boom may self adjust causing the person on the ladder to possibly get seriously injured. The Aerialscope has this feature so the boom sections do not fatigue over time and extending to same spots. When in the Bucket you do not even know when this self adjusting occurs. Unless of course you are at full extension. I think the escape ladder has been used less than 3 times in FDNY since 1960's when first tower ladders arrived. As mentioned we do now have Personal Harness' however the rope is only 50' so unless you can deploy and reach a safe area the ropes are not useful. We do sometimes have LSR in basket which can be used to reach the ground if necessary. Again you have many things to take into account when repelling from Tower Ladder
  23. Usually FDNY maintains contact with the Bronx Dispatchers and has a liason from the agency requesting mutual aid with them to advise on what they need us to do. A Battalion Chief from FDNY is assigned and will give the Bronx progress reports on units operations.
  24. For those interested the FDNY has mutual aid boxes assigned for Yonkers the companies go to the quarters of E-81 and assemble then respond to wherever needed. Also a box is sent to have companies respond to E-63 quarters if it is on that side of yonkers. I believe 2 times in last 4 or 5 years FDNY has assisted Yonkers. (Bronx River Rd. and Oak St)
  25. Thanks Truck 4 continue to keep us all informed. Great Work
