  1. So his bike doesn't have brakes? You invade my personal space or invade my path of travel on a bike when I'm on foot, you better believe I'm gonna do what I gotta do to knock a guy into next week. If the PO had been Joe Schmo walking across the street with his 5 year old daughter everybody here would applauding his actions. Do a little research, these perps in Critical Mass are anarchists that arm themselves with video cameras and deliberately try to lure officers into use of force incidents.
  2. On review of the tape I can see the guy steered his bike into the officers path of travel. It looks to me like he was challenging the officer. Any self respecting person on a bike upon seeing a uniformed PO crossing the street would either slow up or cut behind the officer as to avoid a collision. The guy was either challenging the officer to escalate the situation or he is completely braindead. Either way I see the officer acted in self defense to avoid injury to himself.
  3. I always liked being"Da Am-Bo-Lance Man"
  4. The pinko on the bike sees the cop walking across the street, and doesn't even attempt to go around him or slow down. It was a challenge and he lost. Granted I'm no cop but if you physically threaten me, you're gonna pay the price. I would have done the exact same thing. On a side note, "Critical Mass", is an anarchist group. They view everyone in the emergency services and military as the enemy and would not hesitate to jam any of us up in a second. I have no sympathy for this anti american, trust fund d-bag.
  5. Are they still affiliated with Emergency Ambulance(EAS) on LI?
  6. Lets call out the giant pink elephant in the room. It is a widely known, but ignored fact in NYS that Satmar Hasidism and most other hasidism sects can pretty much do what ever they want. They have every politician by the balls due to money from shady real estate deals, they vote in blocs, and no politician wants to be labled an anti semite for disagreeing with them. For someone to go into KJ and force them to have an FD would be career suicide.
  7. If you ever experienced a flyover you will be glad their on our side. You cant hear those engines until they are literally right on top of you.
  8. At Hipster bars in LES and Williamsburg it still is the staple of drinking, its like two dollars a can, but I think for these people it is more of an "ironic fashion accessory"
  9. It is a Maxim, I think 1927. From what I know it was purchased new and is still "technically" in service, though I'm sure it hasn't been a front line piece for quite sometime. It is designated as Westchester DES Engine 276, you can see the plate on the front bumper in the photo. It is the oldest "in service" fire apparatus in the county.
  10. Off topic slightly but its a disgrace the kind of buses you guys are rolling around in. When I started there were 1 or 2 of those red white and blue buses floating around BK. I think they were like 92's or something and were left over from HHC.
  11. I worked for FDNY EMS from 2005-07 and never heard of this, maybe this was personal prefernece of the EMT's you encountered?
  12. I used to think this way until I had an AFA turn into a 10-75
  13. I'm suprised Archville still exists, I moved out of the area a few years back and if I remember correctly they were only running 20-30 calls a year and had a dual response in their district with BMFD. Good for them if they have the funding to buy a new chief's car but I would have thought they would have went the way of Nelsonville.
  14. Silly guys, we're only lowly civil servants who aren't supposed to make money. The warm feeling we get inside from public service and the gratitude of gratetful citizens should be compensation enough. Making money is only for newspaper editors and lawyers.
  15. Ahh Hartford Ct. A fine town...
  16. Between this, front mounted deck guns and those drychem? grenade things I should be out of job before I reach my 20!
  17. The problem is Mount Vernon has been grossly mismanaged on all levels of government for as far back as I can remember, and I'm sure probably a bit longer than that. Yonkers has always had a reputation as a corrupt town but it is a corrupt town where agendas are actually accomplished. While far fetched, I always thought the best thing for the residents of Mount Vernon, would be for it to be annexed by one of its more successful neighbors such as Yonkers or even NYC.
  18. Thats a pretty big * mistake. In addition to the thousands of dollars it takes to put a chopper in the air, the IC put the flight crew and anyone who lives along the route in the densely populated Hudon Valley region at risk. Helicopters are probably the most dangerous form of transportation. They are not aerodynamic like airplanes, they cant just glide to next airport or highway and land when they have mechanical problems. When a helicopter breaks down in mid air, it becomes a rock. If you've been to 8th rade physics, you know what happens next.
  19. The reliance on stat flight in Westchester is alarming to say the least. Anyone who has ever worked EMS in the city knows that stuff that is medvaced in the burbs is routinely transported BLS to the ER. There is no place in Westchester that is more than 20 to 25 minutes to a trauma center with a decent driver, ok maybe some back roads out in Pound Ridge might be 30 minutes. These travel times in my opinionion are not criteria for a medevac. You could load and go in the time it takes the bird to get in the air. There is absolutely nothing that is going to happen in the chopper that cant happen in an ambulance. I swear some IC's think the statflight crew is performing some kind of powerful witchcraft up there in the sky. The only time in Westchester that a medevac should be called is maybe when there is some kind of extended extrication in one of the farther flung locales ie. Pound Ridge, North Salem, etc. It should not be called for GSW's, stabbings, ped strucks, amp maj/min or jumper downs. These can all be transported by ambulance. I know blood is scary and gross, but it kinda comes with the territory. Lets save the bird for places in Orange, Sullivan, Dutchess etc that actually have legit trauma center transport time problems. As for why medevacs are called in Westchester: 1. IC's that are inexperienced and afraid, my favorite heard from a reliable source, stat flight being called for a DOA. It would almost be funny if it didn't cost thousands of dollars and put the crew at risk. 2. IC's that want to keep their buses and medics in service. This is a crap reason to call for a bird, thats what mutual aid is for. Hell most agencies rely on it almost all the time anyway. 3. What I call the "Platoon Factor". It looks * cool and kind of adds an adrenaline rush. I will agree I have seen stat flight a few times and it is an awe inspring sight. Still an awe inspiring sight that costs tens of thousands of dollars.
  20. It seems like a good idea, but I am always suspicious of any expense from an LI volly department. I guess its better than hiring another "custodian" or "mechanic", or worse a 100k rig for the racing team.
  21. troop 164 Yorktown NY 1998
  22. no problem bro, just wanted to inform people on how things are done in NYC as opposed to the burbs.
  23. FDNY EMS does not do ALS intercepts. BLS either waits for ALS to arrive or makes the judgement call and transports with a notification to the nearest. As a former FDNY EMS EMT I am guessing there is more to this story
