  1. So its basically a bunch of guys calling themselves a Tech rescue Team, with no trumembers, no true training, yet funding. Sounds like a major duplication of service as well as a way to spend tax money.
  2. Could the NFPA start an inpections or auditing division similiar to how the NYS DOH performs inspections and QA?QI at a regional level? It could even be a for profit service. In the recreation world amusment parks and pool facilities contract with private companies that provide suprise audits that include watching lifeguards on duty, testing thr guards and inspecting the facility, equipment , certifications, etc.
  3. What frequency do primarly use?
  4. Lower frequncies are very touchy with antenna lengths. If you trim the antenna to the appropriate length it should help. On mobile radios you see a huge difference.
  5. You are absolutly right. It is sad, however the youth was tresspassing and conducting a crime. Anybody with common sence knows not to be near train tracks. It is a frivilous lawsuit that the tax payer is paying for in the courts, and im sure the LIRR will settle for a nominal fee to make it go away.
  6. Looks like a nice rig. Any pic of the interior patient compartment? Must be tough to back into driveways and hospital bays. Speaking of large ambulances, Harrison has a large chasis unit any input on that one? How does it handle, manuver, is their a lot more room in the back?
  7. White Plains Hospital always has their HEAR radio on and appear to be appreciative of notifications. 99% of the time they know who you are, what you have, and what bed you are going to when you walk through the door, as long as they are not overflowing. BTW: With the new 60 Control radios being installed in all ambulances, will the hospitals have radios to communicate with units in the field wether it be medical control, or notifications?
  8. Movie: "A Christmas Story". I can watch that over and over. Song: "Cristmas" by U2
  9. I believe that on the EMS side of things Volunteers and Career EMTs/Medics are geeting burnt out mostly because of the routine "taxi" transport. I believe that the E911 system is being abused by both the public and MDs who just say call 911 because a patient of theirs does not feel well. We will not be able to retain volunteers comming out when people keep on abusing the system.
  10. Greenburgh has it on the road 24/7.
  11. Mt. Vernon should address the reason why cops are leaving rather than penalize other municipalities for taking them. Guys are transfering because they are looking for a better job. If Mt. Vernon fixes there internal problems, then mabe guys will stay. Also if you are interested in becoming a police officer take every test you can, for practice at the very least.
  12. would leaving one member at the scene to make sure nobody touches wire sufice in limiting liability?
  13. The new style is great! Please keep up the good work!!
  14. Westchester medics are permitted to make pronouncements in the field, it comes down to training, and experience. Some medics will do ot while others wont.
  15. You must tell the truth. The test is set up to catch people lying. Tell the honest truth stay calm and as long as your not a total psycho you should do fine.
  16. FYI. The Town of Greenburgh is reviewing a contract to allow Verizon Fios to provide TV in the town.
  17. Fios is great. I had it installed in January and have no complaints. The Optimum set up from Cablevision is garbage. All of the phones connect to the modem which is a royal PIA. You experience major slow downs when you are watching TV surfing the net and talking on the phone, infact my tv actually froze while I was doing all 3. Once again Fios is great the installer was a 20 year tech from verizon unlike cablevision who contracts out to prince telecom who has guys that are disgruntled and deffently not experts in the field. Just my $.02. Mike
  18. A color guard is a guard for our nations colors. The guard should consist of a rifleman on both sides of the flag. When there are mutiple flags the US flag is the right most.
  19. I am heading up North to Oneonta for a few days. Does anybody have the active frequencies in that area? Thanks. Mike.
  20. Grumpyff, Do you know that from experience. The NYPD is still one of the most respected departments in the world.
  21. Is BNN or Breaking News Network, out of Fort Lee, NJ still around? I believe the got in trouble for broadcasting private intelligence (top officials) messages over their paging network. They did all NYC and Westchester paging for a while. Mike
  22. Recently I heard fire horns sounding from the Grasslands Reservation which houses the Medical Center as well aas the Jail. Does anybody know what these horns are for? I almost thought they sounded liker a jail break alarm... Thanks Mike
  23. All of their dispatch operations are done via Nextel. Any other frequencies you may see listed are for data transmission. Mike
  24. Guess they are trying to compete with the departments on Long Island.
  25. I hear FFD on 46.26 regularly, however they have many frequences assigned to them including a paging frequency and district wide frequency. Can somebody please elaborate on what these are? Mike
