  1. I have thought about using a drafting hydrant with a PIV, post indicator valve. This way you can see when the water is off or on. The only down fall to that is then the hydrant needs to be pumped out. Using a standard pressurized hydrant seems to be the way to go, but still researching my options

  2. What is everyone's thought:

When installing a drafting hydrant that is to be located below a water source and feed by gravity, what kind of hydrant is to be used and why? I have several thoughts and scenarios just want to determine the best for an ordinance that is being drafted for my municipality.

  3. Color coded tags with scan bars, picture, and list of training classes (abbreviated) on back (also in scan code). Color indicates status; Interior, Exterior, MPO, EMS only. Our accountability officers have the board with rings on it, they take your tag and hang it on appropriate ring with time entered and task assigned.

The entire county is using this system and it is regulated by the fire coordinators office, you have to go there to get you picture taken and they make the tags while you wait. The county wide system makes it easier, and less confusing and it works good for us. Our county FAST has special tags as well, and they stage near the accountability officer so they can get the information they need when something goes wrong.

  4. It's a shame the BS and politics involved in calling M/A. It's only a matter of time before a lawyer gets ahold of a particular incident with major property damage or a life was lost b/c an IC did not call the nearest resource. No matter your location the story is the same. I feel the easiest way to solve this is to relieve the IC of having to deal with getting the right resources. The dispatcher would be told a particular alarm assignment or how many and type of units being requested. This allows 911 if regional to properly allocate resources and allows the IC to concentrate on the tactical concerns.

  5. I had just gotten off work and came across an accident with no injuries and kept going but called it in. I gave them 4 or 5 landmarks and they still had no idea where it was! Henry Hudson Parkway NB at 181st, at Lafayette Park on the highway, under the pedestrian bridge south of the Dyckman St exit, north of the GWB, at the location of a particular call we had at the same location at a specific time. I ended up just hanging up. Got a call back from them asking for more info by the time I was in New Rochelle!

  6. @X2321, I had found this pick but it was far away so thanks for the close up!

And just to clarify with the recent photo thread I would like to use it in a ppt for a training class at the vollie house. Since your photo is stamped and gives you credit I hope this does not violate and policies ;)
