    Stop sending companies to the box when no one answers it. That will reduce tons of false alarms.

    They are the latest in sidewalk protection accessories from the DOT called bell bollards. They're maybe 2 feet tall, black and white, and are shaped like a ...well, bell. They are used in places where vehicles frequently make tight turns or u-turns and allow tires to glance off and continue without damage while still protecting pedestrians from errant rescues, ambulances, and cars.

    OUCH! Welcome to the modern era of doing without, the era of doing more with less is over! My guess is that about half that number will actually get cut. None will be in Manhattan and none will be in wealthy neighbor hoods.

    Looks too large to me.

    This is 100% true and accurate. The bid for 80 GMC vehicles over a three year period. They will be used for Battalion, Division and EMS supervisors.

    Rumor's on the street about a new Chief of Dept. are;
    Edward Kilduff - A.C. Brooklyn Borough Commander
    Richard Tobin - A.C. Chief of Fire Prevention
    Thomas Galvin - A.C. Chief of Training
    Robert Sweeney - Chief of Operations
    The latter two are rumored to have been tapped, but are not interested in taking the position.
    As for Chief Cassano and Fire/EMS integration. This is a bad thing, both for Fire and EMS. These are two separate jobs with separate needs and they shouldn't be combined, not at all. The only advantage it serves is to the city's bottom line and it's at expense of service.

    Word from the shops is, "there will be clearance issues in some firehouses".

    This county is SCREAMING for consolidation. There are 50 some odd fire departments. How many different 911 answering points?
    Even if you simply consolidated all of the small city and village fire departments into a town wide department. You've got a major savings there. Career staff would be better utilized, so would volunteer staff. There would need to be FAR fewer apparatus as well! There should be about a dozen departments in this county. Yonkers, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, White Plains and one for every town....IMHO

    No, the R1's rig will join the spare pool. There is no Rescue 6. That was a one time thing, only in service for the Rep. National Convention. They don't have a firehouse or a regular assigned roster. 5 new rigs for the 5 Rescue Co's.
    I read that other site and I really don't understand the attachment to a particular manufacturer. The buff talk all follows the Pierce and I have to say that, if you ask guys from around the job (or any job where the guys spend a lot of time in the rig and on the road)they'll tell you that every rig is a P.O.S.
    You can get a good rig from anywhere, you can get a bad one as well. The Seagrave's we have now take a pounding, but they're junk. Junk inside and junk all around. Older guys say the same thing about the Mack's and the AlF's, so on and so on....
    Just because the rig's manufacturer is the same, doesn't mean that it's the same rig. The guts of any apparatus are specific to the spec. You never know who makes the pumps, engine, aerial, transimision, ect.
    You would be surprised how many guys I work with who couldn't even tell you who makes the rig unless they're standing right next to it.
