Well guys after 43 years as a Port Chester Firefighter [ 18 years very active volunteer working at DPW then getting the dream job getting paid to do what I love to do this is my last day. It didn't end the way I wanted it too but away I go . I was fortunate to catch the war years when we went out every day for a job worked side by side with many dept.'s and made a lot of life long friends on mutual aid. I saw a lot of death and sorrow [ Gulliver's 24 DOA Stouffer's 26 DOA 9/11 world trade center ] and saved a few along the way but my greatest call was closing a large window [ life savers building ] for a 84 year old lady who was freezing because her window was open and she needed help. The next day she baked a apple pie for me and my partner. So I say good bye to it all and hope that I left a small mark somewhere. To my 2 sons that are following or trying to follow in my foot step's keep up the good work in this most rewarding profession . Good luck to the guy's that are left on my job and hope that thing's get better for you and the people we were sworn to protect.

Some lessons can be learned from the remembrance of this tragedy. Especially now since the frequency of gas calls is on the rise.

Hey guys here for an update-my father was responding to a full assignment on Monday when he suddenly collapsed. My brothers from WPFD used an AED to bring him back almost immediately. He went in for surgery yesterday and all went well. The doctors expect him to make a full recovery. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers.

Ladder 15 & Engine 33 don't appear to have any modification (at first glance). The station doesn't seem that out of the ordinary in terms of design.
As a side note, this house was home to Lt. Edward Walsh of Engine Co. 33 and Michael Kennedy of Ladder Co. 15 who were killed in the line of duty on the afternoon of March 26th while fighting a nine alarm fire on Beacon Street.

  11. batt2 liked a post in a topic by sueg in Jersey City LODD of Rookie Officer
Sage Vigiles started this through Incident Alerts, and do not know how to post link to actual article in Daily News (could not get full link name). Rookie Officer Melvin Santiago, fresh out of the academy in December, was executed by a gunman who "wanted to be famous" and lay in wait for the responding officers. The sub-human what's-his-name was wanted for a previous murder, and his partner in that crime is still on the loose - do not know if he has the same mentality.
Our sincere prayers, condolences and sympathy go to the young officer's family, friends and fellow officers as they grieve this senseless act of murder, and hope they find strength and comfort some way. He was only 23 and did not deserve anything like this from that dirt bag, who was killed by returning police gunfire. Hope they get the other suspect he was earlier teamed with very, very soon. - update: They picked up the other suspect in the earlier homicide investigation on Monday. -
Prayers and thoughts also go to Officer Santiago's partner, Officer Ismael Martinez, as he tries to mentally recover and deal with what happened to him and his partner - no one should have to go through that. Ever.

I used to visit my dad when he was assigned. there. I remember that if you walked in the apparatus door, to the left (the west side of the building) was the day room. On the right side (east) you went up a few steps and there was the company office. I used to play on that Ward LaFrance shown in the black and white photo above.

    Congrats to RWC130, EMTBravo's April 2014 MOTM.
RWC130 has been a member of EMTBravo since it's inception. He found out while we chatting on an ancient technology called "AOL IM" (real time computer chat app) while I was living in Woburn, MA and he was in Peekskill about starting a website. I quickly whipped up something small, he was the first visitor and the second to sign up, making him "Member Number 2" It's his dream just as much as it is mine. His loyalty has never wavered.
Throughout the 11 years of being members of the site, Rob has been a great advocate and champion for the site. He's been here during the great times, and the not so great time. He's developed numerous ideas that would help the site, and has promoted it in every way possible. Rob's nature makes the "Work Together - Win Together" motto of EMTBravo.com possible.

A fight......in hockey. Part of the game. So?
By the way, two cops selflessly rushed into a building yesterday investigating a fire. When they were overcome with smoke while stuck in an elevator, firemen rushed in to help our brothers in blue.
This is the story of reality on the street everyday. Two agency's that work hard along side each other.....
......oh! Sorry, let's get back to the completely unheard-of occurrence of a fight during a hockey game. (A game that ended with hand shakes and hugs all around)

I posted your request in the internal YFD alumni forum. Maybe it will help. I wasn't working that night but remember hearing that it was a difficult fire. Chief Webster was a great tactician, a great Chief. He would frequently gather us at challenging locations to preplan. He was a great model for developing officers.
