  1. Anybody know of a Tower Ladder that isnt prepiped?
  2. I dont like it all that much, looks a little too much like an ALF Cab.
  3. IMO I think that a simply renumbering would suit the county fine. Leave a little bit of room for growth or the addiditon of apparatus to departments. You will never satisfy everyone. I think that it will also get confusing using department numbers. If each rig is given a seperate number, with an engine, ladder, rescue, tanker designation, in front, then everyone shoule be happy. Why make big changes when small ones will be more than sufficiant?
  4. Cam, EMS mutual aid works the way mutual aid should from what I have seen, with the exeption of Empress, which is a whole other story. Up in the north county, districts are usually split into 4 areas with each bordering district being utilized for mutual aid calls. In the southern end, It is usually a neighboring department. This is very unlike fire where departments who have their own set of people they want when they call for it. I think you can see that in EMS, the patient is the priority, while in Fire, its all about who is whose friend, etc.
  5. It looks like a little school bus, aka the Small bus. When riding in the back, most of us forget our helmets and dribble cups. At least its not that ugly yellow color though.
  6. NYTruckie, depends on the time of day and how busy yonkers is. Sometimes the ambulance will beat the medic there, other times it could be a good 30 minute wait.
  7. speaking of the big helicoptor, whats it doing there? Looks to be a little close to the building to go anywhere, is it anohter prop for the childrens hospital?
  8. At least the lovely sheds with Decon have been emptied, looks like they put everything in the big white trailer that sits there now. And how bout a few more signs pointing us to the new ER entrance, when you dont frequent it often it gets confusing.

  10. CAM, I suggest you keep dreaming at this point. Has it come up in talks, yes, will it happen anytime in the near future, no. IMO, youd have a better chance with the sound shore merger than pelham and pelham manor. Just to start there are many differences, a quick two, the manor has officers; pelham doesnt. Pelham does EMS, the manor doesnt. Much bigger questions arise but im not going that far into it.
  11. Haha, very funny 585
  12. DRD, You beat me too it. I also saw it today. spoke with one of the Transcare Supervisors, they were lettering them today, 30A2 was sitting on the ramp nice and white. Hopefully they will be put into service in the near future.
  13. BFD1054, Little off the topic, but Chester Heights in lower westchester has Bronxville PO, Tuckahoe Schools, Eastchester Public Services, and Pelham phone numbers. Talk about having places want nothing to do with you.
  14. Steve, Pelham Manor is also a combination dept. They dispatch themselves, usually 4 man tours, three FF and an officer. They run only fire calls, no EMS, 2 Engines, 1 & 2, and a Tower Ladder, TL 3
  15. NYTruckie, Eastchester is the same way. 24/7 medic, one paid EMT 7a to 7p on the weekdays. We cover 99.5% of the first calls, every once in awhile on the weekend mornings we have trouble, and Id say about 95% at least of the second calls. I think that with the changing times, hiring at least 1 EMT for the daytime would be benificial to everyone.
  16. Art, Anyone who fantisizes about you in the shower needs their head examined. Now I have to find a way to get that disgusting thought out of my head.
  17. x635, I think that they would just be refocusing their resources. Yes, they will lose some suppression by switching over from engines and ladders to ems units, but if the ems units will still have firefighters on them that will fight fires if the need arises, I dont think thats a bad idea.
  18. Was967, I definatly agree, medics are lazy about restocking. Maybe they should go back to being EMTs for a little while, having to ride in all of the calls they routinely triage down, and thinking about whether they could have gone ALS.
  19. x635, I figured that that was thought out well in advance, was just curious. Didnt know they had a longstanding agreement of being able to ride each others rigs.
  20. Ok, heres a question. While everyone was at this live burn training session, who was covering everyones home turf? It sure looked like a lot of appauratus and manpower was there. Also, which other departments participated, and what appauratus did they bring?
  21. ALS, Isnt firefighting today very proactive? Arent we always out there trying to educate the public about fire saftey? So when a structure fire does occur, which I believe is not very often, whats wrong with being proactive and preventing things from getting worse? How bout your the one who comes outside and falls to the ground? Wouldnt you like to know that a medic is right there, I sure would. Fires are few and far between these days, and if you have an ambulance there to standby, you might as well have a medic too. If the BLS unit transports, and there is no other ambulance on scene, you now have some type of EMS. Its not everyday that someone starts shooting a gun at cops, but every cop still carries a gun just in case. I say bring the medic, just in case.
  22. unbelievable, good for the dispatcher telling her she isnt going to enforce how to make a burger.
  23. we really do have nothing better than to find these things online. Good find, damb funny.
  24. pbvpm, You hit it right on the head. Basically the problem is that the new guys thing that I now have a job, and that job is the same as someone who has been there for 30 years. Since the job is the same, I should be treated the same end of story. I just got out of the academy and our instructors, although not nearly as harsh as JBE put it, did a good job of informing us that we are the new guys and what being the new guy entails. They didnt have to hammer it into our heads, because we understood them before they even said anything. Anyone who is taking this job should already know their place long before they hit any training academy. If you dont, as JBE said, there is the door.
  25. White Plains, although much busier since the United closing, is still much better than Lawrence.
