Listening to the Radio the other night I heard a Call go out for a File 6 on a 6Y/O. Was just curious as to what that meant.

Thanks

Certain calls are dispatched as the NYSPIN (New York State Police Information Network) date entry types. File 1's are stolen cars, File 6's are missing youths, File 16's are stolen plates, etc....

If you hear the work "File" and then a number code, those are NCIC (National Crime Information Center) codes and are the same throughout the nation. I used to know them all when I worked as a dispatcher for CSP

example

File 1 = stolen car

File 5 = wanted person

File 6 = Missing / runaway

File 13 = text type

File 16 = stole license plates

Not all the numbers are used. But there are like twenty of them total if I remember correctly that are widley used.

Here's a link to it http://www.fas.org/irp/agency/doj/fbi/is/ncic.htm
