Bergenfield, NJ Garage Fire With Propane Tank Explode

April 12, 2009 - At approx 1320 hrs, Bergenfield firefighters were dispatched for a reported garage fire located at 73 River Edge Road. Deputy 1 (DC Edward Kneisler II) arrives confirming a working fire in a garage attached to a 1-1/2 story wood frame. Just as Engine 745 and Ladder 742 arrive, a propane bottle inside the garage explodes as handlines are being stretched. No firefighters where injured in the explosion and the fire did not extend into the house. New Milford was called in as the FAST. Hackensack Engine 4 to the scene and Dumont and Englewood FD's covered empty Bergenfield firehouses. Fire was placed under control at approx 1345 hrs.

Great shots and video, that was my exact point in the Dover thread, the JHK brothers got on scene before the fire had reached the magnitude of this one, but that's why I mentioned the various containers of gas and propane on scene there.

Great shots of Tank going. Good training tool to show that most of the time you don't know what is inside and how objects when they do let go can fly out of the fire. good job not letting the fire wxtend into house and thankfully someone was not standing in the path when that object did fly out.
