Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemans Convention Parade June 20, 2009

25 posts in this topic

Here are a few photo's from the parade....... I took about 875 images in all......... I might have missed a department while I was distracted near the beginning of the parade...... I apologize if I did...... If any department would like any of the images for their web site please email me at photounit@gmail.com with the image file numbers you would like and I will try to accommodate you...... I had intended on offering all of them to the HVVFA as well and that offer still stands......

All the images can be found here:

Great shots, as always! Wow....didn't know there was an E-One Quest in the "local" area (Ruby). Might have to go check that out sometime.

Nice to see several departments not afraid to take their newer rigs out and show them off, rather than leave them home because they're not yet old enough to qualify for a trophy.

FYI, usually the HVVFA dosen't have apparatus trophies due to it's size. Ocasionaly the Local Area Committee will award apparatus trophies but htere were none this year.

Thanks for clarifying that. I wasn't sure how it worked for that particular parade.

It's all good....

No, it's not. It's bad enough that we lose brothers each year from heart attacks, collapse, training, responding and returning from calls. Why would we add the chance of hurting one of our own like this? I'm not against parades, but I am strongly opposed to stupid acts like this that can and do result in permanent injury and death to our brothers.

In case anyone wants to call me out on it, I saw pictures of guys from my own department putting themselves in dangerous positions and have already expressed my concerns about it to the Chief that was there. I know some of you will think I am over-reacting and even "whining" but I am not. I vowed to my people when they elected me to do everything I can to ensure we all go home, everytime. I consider all of you in other departments as brother (and sister) firefighters so I wish you all make it home safe every single time.

Be smart, you owe it to yourself, your brothers and your loved ones!

While I agree with your point 100%, I just want to emphasize that this vehicle was moving very slow...... It appears as if it's going fast due to motion blur but it wasn't.... And yes you can just as easily get hurt or killed falling from a slow moving or even a stationary vehicle as from a fast moving one.....
