Greenburgh Police 2005 Fleet Plan

12 posts in this topic

Some pretty interesting news coming out of Greenburgh Town Supervisors Feiner's latest email regarding this years Capital Budget.

So, I guess we will be seeing a new 75, and the current one will go to the PD Patrol division. I just hope that they keep the current 71!!! That still is the hottest truck in the fleet. Also, the ambulance is sorely needed. However, I wish they would buy some new marked patrol cars, and maybe a marked slicktop or two.

No real interesting DPW deliveries this year, except for a new line painting truck.

Police Department

Police Cars – Unmarked - $145,000 – This project provides funding for the purchase of six unmarked police cars.  This purchase is in-line with the replacement schedule that the Police Department has employed for the last ten years.  It ensures that the primary vehicles used by police personnel are safe when responding to calls for assistance. This project has already been approved by the Town Board.

Ambulance - $92,000 – This project provides funding for the purchase of an ambulance for the Town’s Basic Life Support Program. The vehicle being replaced is a 1997 and has accumulated more than 153,000 miles. This project has already been approved by the Town Board.

Sport Utility Vehicles - $60,500 – These two projects provide funding for purchasing two vehicles. One vehicle will be used as a fly car by the Advanced Life Support (ALS) department.  The vehicle being replaced is a 2003 that will have over 90,000 miles at the time of its replacement. The older vehicle will be utilized as a backup unit when the first line is out of service. The second vehicle being purchased will be used as a fly car by the Police Paramedics and will replace a 2000 that has over 130,000 miles. These projects have already been approved by the Town Board.

Equipment for Police Vehicles - $8,500 – This project will fund the purchase of light bars, protective barriers, command cabinet and shotgun racks for the new police cars. This project has already been approved by the Town Board.

Animal Control Vans - $42,000 – This project will fund the purchase of two animal control vans. These vehicles are used by the animal control officers to transport captured domestic and certain wild animals. The vehicles being replaced are both 2002 have about 65,000 miles each. However, it is not feasible to wait another year to replace these vehicles. This project has already been approved by the Town Board.

Mobile Communications/Command Vehicle - $39,500 – This project will provide additional funding to complete the outfitting of the Command/Communications vehicle as originally intended. When the vehicle was actually designed, it was determined that original cost estimate was insufficient to fund the purchase of the vehicle and its associated equipment items.

Mobile Workstation Replacement - $79,950 – This project will replace nine of the mobile computer workstations. The current workstations are not fast enough to effectively manage the transmission of various types of data, such as digitized photos. The new workstations will accommodate this need and facilitate mobile report writing.

Portable Radio Procurement - $58,750 – This project will purchase an additional twenty portable radios for the department. These radios are used by police officers, paramedic personnel and members of the auxiliary police. Presently, the department does not possess an adequate number of portable radios to ensure that all police officers and emergency service providers could communicate in the event of a major disaster or emergency.

Mobile Data Browser Software - $91,800 – This software supports the two-way communication between the mobile units and the department’s server. This software is essential in order to use more of the functionality of the Mobile Workstations. In particular, the receipt and transmission of digital photos and mobile report writing for the State Incident and Accident report forms.

That really is not a lot of money for a large police department at all, especially for a department like GPD.

Why do you question their need for two new animal control vans? They have an animal control department, which not only provides AC for the unincorparted town, but some the surrounding towns as well. The AC officers are needed, I think, and they should be entitled to new vans and reliable equipment, the current vans are 4 years old, and are on the road 24/7. Also, note the current vans will be redeployed in the PD or other town department that needs them.

The Fire Departments budgets are seperate from the towns, as the FD's are independent taxing districts.

The only thing I wish I saw in this year's budget was $$ for LifePak 12's and increased EMS staffing.

Any idea of which type of unmarked car they are looking to purchase? Hopefully it is not the Impala, they are too small, underpowered and do not hold up well. We have them in NYC, and we have had lots of problems with them. The Crown Vic is a better product, but I've heard interesting things about the Magnum and/or the Charger.

Does Greenburgh have any LP12s? And increased staffing would be nice. They seem too reliant on M/A.

Does Greenburgh Animal Control ever respond if needed to neighboring communities like Yonkers?

And has the Greenburgh PD ever acquired undercover ( not unmarked, big difference) vehciles through forfeitures and/or seizures from criminals???

Animal Control in Yonkers is handled by YPD ESU and the Animal Shelter. Any other case would be one that required a specialist (ex: wild, angry rhino), which is extrememly rare.

Truck4,

Actually I meant in a situation not requiring YPD ESU and only if the Anumal Shelter is not available, would Greenburgh Animal Control then respond into our jurisdiction?

What does a person do if they find a stranded, injured animal and Yonkers shelter is closed???

Thank You

Unmarked cars - This will be nice. One of the cars that i know about doesnt even need a key to start it. All you have to do is turn the ignition.

Dr. Zuki - GPD does have several undercover vehicles other than typical Crown Vics(unmarked) or other standard police cars(unmarked). Since the Street Crime Unit does use these vehicles on a normal basis, I don feel like i should say what kind of vehicles they use. I dont know whether or not they came from forfeits or seizures, but they do have them.

x635 - I too would love to see some marked slicktops. I think they will look sick. but, the unmarked patrol cars they have now are pretty sick too.

Hopefully they'll turn one of the old flycars into the Community Policing Unit truck (1994 Surburban, approx 200,000 miles).

Which jurisdiction owns the vehicles used by the Greenburgh Drug and Alcohol Task Force? As you know, several town municipalities participate in this task force.
