  5. Good luck Jody but aren't you asking the impossible here politicians - honesty I don't see how these words mix well.
  6. yes smart a## swanky I did buff calls in those days, then I met my wife and decided it was more fun to stay home. But look how thingss change over the years, not the County pages me to buff calls.
  7. I remember that fire I buffed it for a little while with a friend of mine.
  8. I really think it is a great idea for the firefighters of america to come up with the funding. If you haven't seen it yet it is huge and well done. I come up to the guy's knee.
  9. Walter and all the instructors that teach survival please use this as a learning tool so it doesn't happen again. and another family doesn't have to deal with the pain it causes. Every year at the Memorial weekend we all say that we hope to never see each other again as we all hope that there will never have to be another memorial weekend but we are still killing our brothers and sisters at a rate of about 100+ a year.
  10. I remember that day very clearly in a different way, my other sister calling me in the wee hours of the morning telling me that Mike got killed, my first thought was he got shot, it never occured to me that he got killed fighting a fire. I remember getting to his house and 3 of the kids were home, Jamie was in Rockland county playing softball, I took Michael (the oldest son) for a walk and had a talk with him, then sitting around the house watching Nick and Jen (6 and 3 at the time respectively) playing having no real idea that their dad was never coming home again, calling my brother in Michigan telling him the news. Then sitting in on the planning meetings with the Brewster FD so my sister Janet wouldn't have to. I remember that I talked with the members of my family that were in the fire service and to our Chief (I was serving our dept as 1st asst chief at the time) telling them that I can't do this anymore and that I was quitting the fire department and most of them felt the same way all the way to our family in Michigan. Then at the wake that was open to everyone at the middle school I went outside for some air (alright to be alone & cry) I saw what you see in no other walk of life, that huge sea of blue, cops & fireman from all over the tri state area and realized that I could never walk away from this and the best thing to do was to stick it out and try to do everything I personally could to keep this from happening again. When the funeral was over and we were trying to get back to the "new" normal I spoke with my Chief Bill Vlad about starting a FAS Team, the Chief not only gave me his ok but told me to do whatever I needed to do and to get whatever I needed to make this happen, so was the start of one of the first FAS Teams in Westchester and still one of the best in my opinion. Yes like my son said Mike "Satch" was a hell of a guy, anyone that knew him would have to agree he would do anything for you anytime. Mike and I had so much in common, both officers on the FD (my second time through the ranks), both of us police officers and both of us loved the same girl. It goes without saying that I miss you Mike and although you are gone from us here on earth you are still with me each and every minute of every day. Because of this incident I have made many great friends at the Brewster FD and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation where my wife and I go every year to volunteer for memorial weekend. We were so moved by the weekend in 1998 when Mike was one of the honorees that we had to get involved. RIP Brother we love you and miss you and I know that you will be there in March in spirit for Jamie's wedding. I know when I close my eyes that day I will see you walking her down the aisle with that huge Satch smile.
  11. If consolidation would bring about a better quality of service toour customers then I seriously hope the governor signs the bill. Unfortunately from what I understand is this proposal does not include the school districts who seem to do whatever they wish raising taxes every year. Maybe school districts should stop taxing and become tuition based there may be less unneccesary spending that way as the parents might pay more attention. MAny years ago one of my coworkers did some math and figured it out that it would be cheaper to shut down our school system and bus the kids to another school. All politiciians including school board members have their personal agenda when they get elected and then after they get elected the only thing ow on their minds is getting re elected at the end of their term.
  12. I'm a little confused here, is this a new delivery? The original post says it is a 2007.
  13. Yoktown Parade starts at 1900 hrs.
  14. Spike do you mean July 1st?
  15. Just great the Montrose Bazaar & Parade week, we all know that means rain. I hope this year is a dry week for the brothers in Trose, best wishes for a great and successful week.
  16. Well said Chris, disputes can always provide different aspects on topics. My best wishes to the Brother from Yonkers for a full & speedy recovery. A few weeks ago my wife and I took a train to the city whcih allows you to look at things that you just can't see driving a car. I can see whay Yonkers gets so many multi alarm fires based on all of the balloon constructiion and the close proximity of houses while I was on the train. I do not envy you guys at all. Yes most of the river communities I know have these types of neighborhoods but thankfully not as many as Yonkers.
  17. We currently have Incident safety officers who must complete the ofpc IC safety course and we also have a Health & safety officer who has also completed the ofpc H&S officer course. The ICSO's have the responsibility of overall safety at all incidents whereas our H&S officer has been charged with chairing the committe to bring the department into compliance with NFPA 1500. At this point in time we have reviewed all of our guidelines, policies and bylaws and matched them to the NFPA 1500, the areas where we are not yet in compliance will be addressed.
  18. That's better birthday boy
  19. the book that Rockland produces mentioned by Rob is a great idea, however the information has to come from the department to the county, some Chiefs do, some Chiefs don't, just like anything else. FDVA356 Continental Village is not in my battalion and you seem to have left out some resources from your own home dept. As for the call today I have no comment!
  20. Sorry for the sector thing and just think I was just finishing up my ICS-300 when I got called for that fire.
  21. Yes Field Com 1 was on scene in the Ardsley Rd. Sector.
  22. Another great time, Thanks Trose!
