    Today’s Special Anniversary
When the New York City newspapers were delivered to the New Rochelle train station on the morning of March 4th, 1861 the front page news was that today was the inauguration of Abraham Lincoln as the 16th President of the United States.
Washington D.C was a long way off and New Rochelle had not supported Lincoln and there was important business in the Village of New Rochelle. The Village Board was to meet today to consider a petition to appropriate $400 to purchase New Rochelle’s first fire truck, $800 to erect or procure its first fire house and appointed 29 men as volunteer firemen to protect the 3,500 residence of the growing Village of New Rochelle. The New Rochelle Fire Department was born.
The Village of New Rochelle Fire Department’s first company became known as the Enterprise Hook and Ladder and Bucket Company #1. Not to be out done by the Village, two week later the Town of New Rochelle formed its first fire department. Much of the early records talk about how the two departments competed in races up and down Main Street to prove who was fastest.
On September 2, 1867 the Huguenot Hook and Ladder Company became the Huguenot Fire Company #1 with the Fire Departments first Engine, or Pump. Prior to this, the fire department’s only ability to extinguish fire was using buckets. That first engine was first used by the NYC Volunteer Fire Department and was obtained at the cost of a whopping $1,500.
In 1882 the department received it s first fire bell and placed it on the new Huguenot Fire House on Lawton Street (now the library parking lot). The Building later burned to the ground but the bell was saved and reused. Today the bell is a memorial to fallen Firefighters and is in front of Station #1 on Harrison Street. In 1885 the department purchased its first steam-powered pumper to augment the hand-powered one.
In 1899 the Town and Village of New Rochelle merged to become the City of New Rochelle. The Fire Department was forced to consolidate as well and became the Fire Department of the City of New Rochelle.
On March 4th 1901 the department hired William Rinck, making him the first paid fireman. Additional paid firefighters were added each year and on May 1st 1903 Chief Ross became the first paid fire chief. He had served as volunteer chief starting on July 16, 1889.
The City continued to grow and the Fire Department grew with it, adding new apparatus, fire stations and paid firefighters. In 1920 Chief Jones reported the department had its busiest year in its history as the firemen had responded to 200 alarms that year. On May 13, 1927 at the recommendation of the Chamber of Commerce, City disbanded the Fire Department volunteers The reason stated was to improve the fire insurance rating, thus reducing insurance premiums. This professional system is still in place today.
Over the decades as the City has grown, the fire department has kept pace, adding new technologies such as horseless pumpers, tower ladders, the Jaws of Life and computers. The fleet and the stations have been and continue to require upgrading. New neighborhoods particularly in the north end required protection, and stations were replaced to provide room for development. The Fire Department has been challenged in many ways, and early firefighters would be shocked to learn that number of calls for help has exceeded 9,000 annually.
During these years New Rochelle Fire Department has responded to many emergencies small and great, the most notable earliest one being in 1875. The Ferguson’s Grocery and Feed store Fire on Main Street, took much of the downtown shopping district. Ferguson rebuilt it (this time of brick) and on November 5th 1890 it burned again. The second fire was worse than the first with mutual aid needed to save the Village. Larchmont, Pelham, Mt. Vernon came along with Port Chester who placed their hand engine on a railroad flat car to get to Lawton and main within 25 minutes. The Rye Fire Department arrived later, having pulled their pumper down the post road.
Firefighting remains one of the most dangerous professions. Many firefighters have been injured, some critically, and six New Rochelle Fire Fighters have made Supreme Sacrifice. May they Rest in Peace. They gave their all for New Rochelle.
Many things have changed in New Rochelle in the 150 years since March 4th 1861. But the one true constant is that when someone needs help the New Rochelle Fire Department will be there in minutes and that is something that the citizens can always count on. Over the upcoming months, the department will celebrate their legacy and century and a half of service with a number of special events and displays.

They will get on, physically, but they will NEVER be able to forget.
This split-second incident that they were thrust into will live on in their minds for ever, no matter what.
I pray they can get through that.

It might behoove you to perhaps investigate that further.
The water dept may already know what each hydrant is capable of, given the size of the main and the typical pressure based on the elevation and location within the system. Or at least they should.
It's just a matter of painting the hydrant bonnet and/or steamer cap accordingly.
At a glance you would know what the water supply capacity is available for use when you pull up to a job.

    All,
The EMTBravo staff tries to be objective and fair and the site administrators have counseled the staff to moderate fairly and impartially. The staff enjoys the way this site enables a variety of people to engage in thought provoking discussions, share ideas or experiences, and promote doing our jobs the right way. We believe in equal application of the rules to all members and enforce them only as necessary.
We have reviewed the situation involving an active member of this site and based upon our findings, the member did violate forum rules and after what became a heated exchange with members of the staff, he was banned. This member has since acknowledged that he did in fact violate forum rules and has apologized. It is not in dispute that these issues existed and that this member is responsible for them.
    1. The member had and used multiple screen names.
    2. The member was approached by a staff member regarding this and denied it.
    3. Later confronted with e-mail and IP addresses and other evidence that this was in fact all the same person, the member conceded that it was him.
    4. While using these alternate screen names other forum rules concerning agency bashing were violated.
    5. After all this came to light, the member posted personal attacks and extremely derogatory comments directed at the staff of this site, another violation of EMTBravo policy.
As a result of the foregoing, this member was banned. Several other members carried the proverbial torch and violated forum rules and were also banned.
It is this member’s right to complain about EMTBravo to friends and peers and to vent his frustration with the staff however it serves no purpose when these friends or colleagues log in and under the guise of supporting him, violate forum rules themselves.
Some of these “brothers” are now engaging in what can only be described as harassment via e-mail and other means. This is unwarranted and inappropriate and should cease immediately. There is no reason to respond with open hostility and/or veiled threats to any member or staff.
If anyone has a question or concern about this situation, please address it via PM or e-mail. We will respond to any reasonable inquiry but will not engage in a debate about the merits of this case or the actions that have already been taken. It must be noted that the member in question has himself requested that this behavior be discontinued.
As a matter of policy, we do not discuss member issues publicly or engage in debates about moderation actions. However, the staff is also sensitive to the fact that this is a personal and emotionally charged issue and that is why a public response is being posted.
This is a membership based forum and it is impossible to please everyone or prevent people's feelings from being hurt when opposing points of view or opinions are exchanged. We must not take it personally or respond defensively when someone posts a differing point of view. Be open-minded, listen to your fellow members' opinions, and respond calmly and defend your position with facts and not rhetoric. This will eliminate the need for the staff to intervene and allow the debate to evolve productively.
Thank you for your support of and involvement with EMTBravo.
    Respectfully,
    The EMTBravo Staff

Here are some of the pictures "Mrs." SteveOFD took of Monday mornings fire.

The 5" supply line from the hydrant toward the scene.

    Just short of the scene.

There was snow to contend with that morning.

Ladder 42 working at maybe it's last job.

Crew operating on the D side.

Engine 97 dropped it's whole hosebed.

Engine 96 pumping from a larger main from Wolden Road up Underhill Road.

The 5" line coming up Underhill Rd. from Engine 96.

The 5" line continues up Underhill Rd.

The 5" line up to Engine 99 for relay.

Engine 99 at the relay pumping to Engine 97. Approximately 800' from Engine 96, and then approximately 700' to Engine 97.
Mrs. SteveOFD walked up to the scene to ask if I wanted my camera. I told her I was working the job (at E99 pumping), but if she wanted to take some pictures she could. These pictures were taken as any civilian could have, she was granted no special access beyond what any civilian could have gotten.

The Croton E-119 thread has been closed and removed by me for people not staying on topic and flaming the administration. Secondly though a member has been banned, this has been and continues to be an ongoing investigation by the administration. As part of the rules, this is not up for discussion by the membership on the forum threads about a specific person. With that being said, that does not mean that members cannot discuss actions through private messages.
Please stay on topic in threads and remember the forum rules.
    Thanks
    Izzy

    Members,
There is a now ex member of this site who is spreading rumors about this site, and myself. This person is making up a wide variety of lies with malicious intent, in order to slander us.
This person is also using Facebook, and many of you have bought into this.
I ask that you consider the roles this person has in the Westchester fire and EMS services, and take a hard look at this persons behavior. We tried to discreetly deal with the issue this person caused, because we had respect for him and his many great posts and dedication to this site. Instead, this person decided to go into a tirade.
I can't address all the lies and false quotes this person is using, because there are so many different stories coming out of one mouth. I am making this post because of the extreme slander. I am upset it has come to this, as I considered this person a friend and I really respected what he brought to this forum and the good he has done for his community. There is no excuse for him dragging this down to such a personal level with such immaturity.
I will not get into what this person did that started this did, but this could have been easily resolved, as mentioned.
This site is only as good as members who contribute content make it to be. Thank you to all the members who are loyal to this site, and have the social skills to be able to debate an issue with respect toward one another, and who come to this site with open ears and open minds.

I knew for a long time now, but I was sworn to secrecy. I changed my allegiance because these resources are too important to FD persons in the field in the event of a major incident. In good conscience, I could keep this secret no longer. This video will explain what is contained in these trailers, and you will know immediately why there are people on the payroll qualified to operate the resources.Entabulator1.wmv
