Ok just to clear some stuff up here it is not used at all as a response vehicle nor will any member of the FD be driving it...also it is not owned by the FD.
The project was ok'd by the Mayor of Glen Cove and the City attorney to wear the Glen Cove FD name. It is a publicity stunt on part of the owner who is very supportive of the FD. It was created in part to be show cased in the FD's 175th anniversary parade this June. No money from the FD budget or the City of Glen Cove was used to create it. The owner is also a sponsor of the FD's car show and cruise nights it has been hosting. As for the use of the apparatus floor and model I guess this was ok'd by the city. It could be any firehouse. I guess the FD's that allow the female models to model in those fire girl calenders in gear and on the rigs are doing something very naughty as well. Shame on them also. Good God get over it. You see much worse then this just going to the beach nowadays or the front page of the Daily News!! Boy the new generation of....never mind.

Absolutely ! Urgent care centers reduce the demand for EMS, unclog the ER passenger waiting line and reduce health costs.
Yep......sounds like a good plan to me !

Then that's not really "hogging". That's a more appropriate disposition for many of those patients, versus taking up valuable ambulance transport time and ER space.

If by hog, do you mean reduce unnecessary 911 calls and subsequent transports? If so, I say good!

You could argue that buy purchasing the gun she showed intent to cause serious physical injury or death and charge murder or manslaughter. If she already had ownership of the gun, the charges maybe the same, but a good defense attorney could make a strong case for mental defect or disease.

Or the kid dealing drugs out of her house. Not saying that justifies the shooting, but she managed to raise 5 kids without shooting them. I'm willing to bet it was a lot more than homework.

Between the annual proof that money wins elections and the idiots who vote for dead people every once in a while I have a hard time continuing any conversation with someone against term limits.

Either consolidate on your own terms or get consolidated (or in this case eliminated). Even if the economy magically returned to growth and prosperity tomorrow, we'd be years away from catching up to years of cuts austerity budgets.

True, but we're not exactly doing great. How many area depts have already been cut to the bone? Once you've reduced staffing and eliminated units, what's left?

Over the years, the populace has become dumbed down and complacent. Look at any of those man in the street interviews and you can't but agree that we have become a country with an enormous amount of morons, no thanks to our educational system, but that's a rant for another time.
The old saying is that 'you can fool some of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time'. Today's problem is that the 'some of the people' you can fool some, and all of the time, is now a majority.
Most of our elected officials serve without the proper foundation and knowledge for the job which they been elected to do. When that lack of knowledge is recognized, there is no accountability, just re-election over and over again. Do you know how many members of Congress thought the Electoral College was where you went to learn how to be elected and serve as a member of Congress? Pathetic.
This is why I have always been in favor of term limits. Those opposed to term limits say the voters can enact term limits each election day by voting in another candidate. Well, fine for a local or statewide election, but what about the politicians from other states who's actions impact our lives and for which we have no recourse but to stand by as their local constituents send them back to office year after year. Then when term limits are enacted, like in NYC, the first order of business for the new session is how to overturn them.
Money has corrupted the process. I thought it was one person, one vote. So I'm in favor of absolutely no corporate money, no PAC money in elections. If a company or organization has an issue it wants to support or oppose, impress that upon it's employees or members and they can take that to the ballot box with them. Only individual, limited personal contributions we make it a level playing field. Elected officials were meant to represent the people, not corporations or organizations.
Outside of overt illegality such as corruption, elected officials are immune from accountability for the consequences of their decisions and actions. Our system of governance and justice may be the best in the world, but it could sure use a good cleaning right about now.
The buck doesn't stop anywhere anymore, it just keeps bouncing off everyone and its not going to change until the populace wises up and rises up to force our representatives and our news medias to do their jobs, tell the truth and remember that this country started with "We The People".

I don't need to create new tension, there's plenty of it already there and niether I or any of my volunteer colleagues created it. You can call it trolling or whatever the hell else you want Cap, but those who want to see a truly successful and cooperative future combined fire service know that the input of all is of value in building such....and that includes criticisms and a good hard look at what brought us here in the first place. So while it may be the leaderships that implement the course, the more obstacles removed by the rank and file the easier the transition will be, since after all it is we who will be working together. Communication on any level is a good thing and at least as far as vollies go it could make all the difference in the world. You see what has become clear is that there is a misunderstanding of how thing work in Vollywood. Unlike the military, ultimately it is the memberships of the individual departments that decide the course their department takes. The more open and free discourse there is about our probablre combined future the more informed and therefore better decision they can make...otherwise we run the risk of it being one based on misinformation, misconceptions and the inherent mistrust that has grown over the years.
Far better to have broad support for the Charter Rivision and help assure it's passge, then face yet more contention and see it fail at the polls. Frank, honest and open communication is the only way to achieve that support.

Helicopters are a phenomenal asset. Stories like this however hopefully make providers think carefully about utilizing them. Aircraft don't don't tend to fail "small". Ambulance hits a deer or engine fails on the way to the ER you put the patient in another ambulance. In a helicopter too often the whole crew and patient go to the morgue. "Well, since its here." Is never a justification for flying out a patient. If the flight will actually save time and the patient needs those minutes, then absolutely fly them out.

When you disappear a thread and a month later suddenly restore it amongst other threads that are no longer active you have effectively killed it. This forum is large and many like myself only go to the new content link. Especially on a mobile device, navigating each individual section and subsection is time consuming and onerous. When restoring a thread, quick bump post would help hopefully help to restart the discussion.

If someone wants to expand on their idea they are allowed to, thats why we are in america, you are free to do what you want (within the law). If you guys dont like it, and you are perfectly entitled to your opinions, than you can always leave. Yet here you are, posting on every topic that is made on the forums, complaining about the posts and the members...
Guys...If you like the pictures and the IA's than stick with them, go and have your wet dreams while looking at pictures of fires and trucks, and dont post in the forums. (And I sincerely hope you are reading this post in 'Firehouse Kitchen Table Mode' and not taking it seriously because I respect the both of you and look forward to your posts.) Honestly, this is what upsets me the most...going on to Bravo quick during my lunch break only to see countless bashes about the site, from the SAME people, who are obviously unhappy about the changes to the site and the way things are moderated here. I want to read quality posts that enlighten, expand your mind and leave you thinking about things, or make you want to join the discussion in a positive way.
But with all of these posts about the site, the owner, the moderators, and how its run...it feels like a dam junior high cafeteria instead of the firehouse kitchen table.
Stick with what you like about the site the most and let the rest of us do the same and quit complaining...
(see the smiley faces gang? This was meant to be in fun and make you all hopefully see what you are doing so we can get back to what the site is here for...thank you...have a good day...anyone watch the Ranger/Devils game the other night? )
