  1. hey seth, being a truck driver myself i do know that CT state police and some town police departments do still monitor channel 9 as a emergency channel, NYSP troop T division used to monitor it as well ....not sure anymore if its car to car or if the dispatch repeaters can even pick it up ...... mass state police also monitors channel 9 on the mass pike from what i remember .....but the "unofficial" open channel if u wanna call it is channel 19 thats where a majority of chatter takes place... if CB radios interest you that much read up on them u can do some cool stuff with them.... like for instance during certain times of the year with the proper radio and antenna set up u can speak to people as far away as portugal!!....my father used to be really big into high dollar CB radio's and such. I hope ive helped u out with your questions on the topic and if your further interested or need more shoot me a message i'd be glad to talk on the topic
  2. from what ive heard (my sources are good but details are limited) yes mohegan vac went with a paid crew of 2 emt/drivers from what im told its 07:00 - 19:00 mon - fri other than that i have nothing else more conclusive or further details A/T/T
  3. oneeyedmedic - first off i never once said that glens couldnt handle the job according to the post after mine they handled it pretty quickly and kudo's to them .... one thing i probably shoulve mentioned in my last post was different factors to the scene as in if PD wouldnt let them shut down the south bound lanes then then two HEAVIER wreckers or two rotators would be the best for the job ...simply becuase glens smaller truck the red mack doesnt have a heavy enough capacity to lift it from the rear cuase the further you extend that boom the less you can lift etc. i just simply stated that resource wise stiloski's is the best for the job he has the necessary trucks to handle and the excess equipment to handle the clean-up quickly and efficiently he specializes in it he didnt buy all that equipment to let it sit there and look pretty especially the only fdny rescue he purposely outfitted to be a hazmat truck
  4. ** just my two cents as ive been in the towing and recovery world for about 10 years ** i think glens did a great job with the equipment they have....judging by the pictures of their trucks the red mack looks to be the capacity of anywhere from a 15 - 25 ton and the blue and white kenworth is anywhere from a 35 - 50 ton so they had pretty adequate equipment on the job although i wouldve swapped trucks to have the blue and white one up front picking up the weight of the trailer and tractor. for those on this forum that dont know the area the location of this rollover is in a tight spot ....two lanes no left should and a descent right hand shoulder at that particular location so glens did the best he could and it worked out he had the length away from the rolled unit and the leverage and height adjustment to pick it. in this type of situation with these recovery trucks i wouldve steered away from an end roll due to load weight and i know from experience these dont run legal all the time, a buddy of mine used to run garbage and he said if his loads were between 25-30 ton it was a light load. on another note i think the photo's dwcfireman took are great but i wish i couldve seen more of the recovery or more angles of the wreck if it was possible to make a better judgement on the recovery.... as far as safety hands down glens went the best route they shut the highway down for the top reason safety , now everyone on this forum can agree we are all taught we are useless to help someone if we get hurt right ? not only for safety they gave themselves time to prep the recovery right without having to rush and cut corners and possibly have a failure during the recovery. on a lighter note of safety i would hope the IC took into consideration to not have his guys nor the recovery crew root around in the pile of garbage becuase who knows whats in it ....not everyone in this world heads to correct things to throw out in normal trash i.e. sharps , and other biohazard materials and whatnot. as far as what seth said yea MPPD went by the rotation list for the recovery but i fully agree that stiloski's shouldve been called for the job .....with knowing his equipment and also being a former employee of stiloski's he deffinetly has the resources and the manpower to show with an army of wreckers , dump trucks , and payloaders to recover and clear the scene in a timely manner and im sure that if stiloski's was called all they wouldve needed was the northbound lanes to stay shut down with two rotators prefferably his 85ton and the new 75 ton quad steer i wouldve done an off-set end roll but thats just my 2 cents!!
  5. 16fire5 , the new firehouse is is actually going to being next to the ambulance corp on oscawana lake road on the south side of the building chris192 , id like to thank you for your support chris its greatly appreciated!!!
  6. if you knew the terms and the cause of the fire and the way it traveled it was still a damn good stop wait for the pictures to be posted on mohegan's website or the information to be made public about the cuase
  7. at 2:30 in the afternoon on a monday how many firefighter do you expect can show up??? try and factor in how many of these people are working , or dedicated to some other issue in their lives ??? THAT IS WHAT MUTUAL AID PLANS ARE DRAWN UP FOR give them a break. christ even my department had a lil bit of a hard time getting the engine out but we provided sufficient manpower to mohegan. Given the time of day and that no one was home we all (meaning all the dept.'s that responded) , and where the fire started and how it traveled made one hell of a stop on that house and to all the members of this site that are members of the departments that responded to that fire you/we made one good stop guys good job!!

  15. i drive a truck ....a 3500 gallon septic truck to be exact and ive experienced the rumbler i think from connecticut state police but im not sure because the vehicle was unmarked but whomever it was had the rumbler and i in-fact felt it in my seat in the truck doing 70 down the highway it was a weird feeling i thought something was wrong with my truck till i looked in my mirror and saw lights so from experiencing that i feel its pretty effective
