According to the IA,only 1 Engine and 1 Truck were on the initial dispatch. Is that normal for a Multi Dwell of that size(again refering to the IA report of 60 displaced) at 3 AM?

What a joke. How many different departments needed to be sent on a single family dwelling fire? This is not a knock on any of the individuals who responded (I'm sure they did the best they could) but an example of how screwed up the fire service is in Westchester County.

It took nine or so departments (including the Grasslands Fire Brigade) to get 6-8 engines and 3-4 ladders to the job? The system ain't workin' boys!!!
Finally, after almost 1/2 an hour they stopped trying to special call a special "FAST Team" and just assigned one of the mutual aid companies to that function. Wow.
I'm not criticizing anyone but the system!

Somebody yelled SAFETY and all the pole holes became the target. Back in the dangerous day, we used the pole for every trip down stairs...alarms, visitors, lunch or dinner's ready, answer the pay phone (I'll explain what a pay phone is another time) until the safety fairy waved her magic wand.
It's amazing that we train on things like rappelling of 6 floors, going head first out a window onto a ladder, and so on, but poles are dangerous.
Back to my old saying: "Is the scene safe?"
"No, it's not safe, that's why they called us. If it were safe , any assho#$ could handle it."

I totally agree i also made it down to the 9/11 memorial last summer and was disgusted by the kind of tourist attraction feel. People posing for pics with big old smiles like they were at the amusement park. It seems people have lost the reality of what happened there. At one point even my son asked why i wasnt smiling and i explained to him that nothing good happened there( he was one on 9/11).I then had him watch the documentories on the History channel and he got it. These people DESERVE our enduring respect i wish more people would show it.

So new Rochelle catches a job in the projects last night and this is the outcome. Just found this on another site and copied and pasted it. I can tell you for sure that when my company responds to a EDP or suicide attempt or some other dangerous call and PD advises to wait until scene is secure before entry I do just that. I have also been on location first before the arrival of PD and stood fast and waited. I do not know if the person I am responding to is injured or dead and I really don't care at that point. I do know that my guys won't end up injured or dead by my stupid decision to enter a scene I can't control. Do FD's really need to get on the air to advise PD to stand by until scene is safe or should they be grown ups and realize it's out of their hands? Do these officers really need to be on the fire floor? Maybe we should wait for the bagpipes to decide.
