  1. The list only came out a few days ago, and people who are already on the job are on that list including myself. I've been on for a year and a half and I'm number 87 on the list. If you're on the job you get called down to metrotech at some point and they appoint you to civil service status. If you took the exam prior to being hired, you get civil service status when you're hired. The department is court ordered to currently make every position civil service. So starting next year the way you get hired will be off the civil service list, whereas now it was by calling the FDNY and submitting your info.
  2. I can donate again next week, and I'm also in for a yearly membership fee. If this you don't receive enough donations then thank you Seth for all of your hard work and dedication.

  5. Definitely think the new look is awesome. Looking forward to seeing these on the road.
  6. Blue and Yellow lights have been proven to be more effective in deterring drivers. Where as red is proven to attract.

  8. Every fdny bus has a ignition kill in it ( leave the bus runnning and take the keys as soon as someone hits the breaks it shuts off) i dont understand why this isn't standard in more agencies by now
  9. RIP Brothers
  10. It is my regret to inform you all of the loss of EMT Kelvin Buggs (20), of Station 57, who was killed this morning wile trying to break up a fight (off duty). He leaves behind a daughter. I personally knew Kelvin Buggs as he graduated from my EMS Academy class, he was a good guy, and hopefully they catch the murderer . No funeral details are available yet but I will post more info as it becomes available. http://www.ny1.com/content/top_stories/121551/off-duty-ems-worker-fatally-stabbed-in-brooklyn
  11. these are the funeral arrangements THE FINAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR; EMT Kelvin Buggs are as follows. July 7th, 2010 Lawrence H. Woodward Funeral Home 1 Troy Ave ...Brooklyn, NY 11213 Wednesday Viewing 2pm- 6pm Thursday Service 6pm- 8pm Burial on July 8th, 2010 9:30 am Cypress Cemetery
  12. if you passed youre medical and everything you'll get called for the academy when there is an opening. I believe there is an academy class going through in july so they may call you for that ( they call people sometimes the day before it starts) or they may call you in a few months. EMS is the only service constantly hiring still in the city. You do not need to be civil service to get the job. You'll get hired and once a year ( usually) a EMS civil service will be offered and you can take then, then one day they'll call you to metrotech and like magic youre civil service.
  13. I'm pretty sure you have to drive there to get the credit ( either to scene or station), and you should record how many calls you call and average out the miles ( this is how its supposed to work) because if you get audited on your taxes they'll want proof and how you got the number you gave them.
  14. EMT Paula Rodriguez Instructor at BOT passed away May 30, 2010. Viewing will be Wednesday and Thursday, 1400 - 1600 and 1900 - 2100 hours each day. Walsh La Bella Funeral Home, 70-17 Cooper Ave Glendale, N.Y. On Friday, JUNE 4, 2010, a Service at 1000 hours at Christ Tabernacle Church, 64-34 Mrytle Ave. http://www.nydailyne...ush.html?r=news *On a side note Instructor Rodriguez was one of my main instructors during the EMS Academy last year. She was a very good teacher and was being prepped for the day when she would be the lead instructor of a class. She was in very good shape, and appeared very healthy often running with us, and pushing us to do better both physically and academically. Unfortunately it appears she was diagnosed with this disease and only months later passed. I pray that all the responders get a health bill passed soon, because I know many of them do not expect to live for long, and many have already passed. RIP Instructor/EMT Paula Rodriguez
  15. Rumors are rumors, and until anything factual comes out we can only speculate. The only thing that can be said is that Empress has been in Yonkers for a very long time and from everything I've heard ( including when I worked there) they have a very good relationship with the city of Yonkers. Also empress has SOD including the hazmat, and biological training team, where from my knowledge TC does not. Who knows what will happen though. I'm sure TC is trying to take another shot at Yonkers though considering it is a business.
  16. Video made by a guy who works at one of the FDNY EMS stations ( in brooklyn I believe) its his second video, the first is called " call 911" and can be found on youtube. This video premiered in front of Comissioner Cassano, and Chief Of EMS Peruggia, as well as others at the 10th Annual EMS Competition and Health Fair
  17. saw this while driving on i-87 northbound the other night was wondering what it was for.
  18. I liked the shoutbox, I do agree that it was abused. However I think it should be brought back and there should be a thread on how to post in the shoutbox, and if a person post's something not shout box worthy they get a warning and a link to the thread on how to use it, and if the person persists they should be banned from using the shoutbox for a certain amount of time and be told why they were banned.
  19. Three Forty Three Entering Live A link to watch the newest/largest FDNY fireboat entering new york harbor today ( 4/30/10 @ approx 445 pm)
  20. So everything is passing me right now on the harbor, the coast guard is here, and a bunch of other FDNY Boats as well including the John J Harvey ( notorious for returning to service on 9/11 and helping bring water into downtown Manhattan). The Three Forty Three is a really beautiful ship up close, hopefully it serves them well for many many years to come.
  21. I'm currently sitting at the bottom of new york harbor with my laptop watching this live, I had no idea this was happening today or I would have brought my camera! I'm going to try and take pics as the boats pass me on the west side with my phone ( that is dying)
  22. That's awesome, Paramedic Slotoroff is also a Lt. with YHFD and knew the risks associated with entering that environment. He is a great guy who from personal and professional experience is a great Paramedic and Fireman. He made a judgment call which probably saved the lives of those people. Hopefully this doesn't become a discussion about someone doing someone else s job because at the end of the day we're all here to help people, and he did just that.
  23. If I can ask why are you still going on about what happened? It happened bro, get over it, at the end of the day in the eyes of the people who are hiring you they were right and you were wrong. I suggest following the advice of the previous members who gave some. You don't need to justify yourself on here and blast another PD on an open forum for a single isolated incident. We all have run ins with each other, it happens. Hopefully you can present a good representation of yourself to your investigators, and if not like Goose said FDNY EMS is not the end all be all, there are plenty of EMS agencies to work with.
  24. FDNY EMS is taking over the 13 ambulances tours in place of St Vincents. FDNY EMS also had money approved for a new west side station to be built within the next few years.
