I have read your reply, sorry i am going to disagree on a couple of points. A firefighter isnt as good as the tools he has on his back or in his hands it is the tool on his shoulders. This member who did this act of entering the structure, I would hope, as a firefighter, used all his training in evaluating the situation, judged the risk vs benefit, and did what his firefighting background allowed him to do. Turnout gear doesnt make you a firefighter, it is whats inside that makes you a firefighter. This member of the fire service / ems did a hell of a job. And thats what separates us from the rest of the world.
GOOD JOB AND THANK YOU FOR BRINGING A POSITIVE STORY ABOUT EMERGENCY SERVICES.

I like the member rating feature. It helps to highlight who may or may not be a sound source of information.
Couple of guys getting close to 100, who's going to be first?!
However, I was thinking it might be nice if giving someone a rating was not anonymous. Let someone know who you are when you give them an atta-boy and, likewise, when you criticize. I think everyone can take some criticism and this might help avoid vindictive negetives.
    Anyone's thoughts?

And how many times had TC called out responding to Millbrook or PV (prior to the new contract) from Vassar hospital, or anything of that sort? Or what about Alamo responding to East Fishkill from Vassar Hospital (yes, it used to happen, I heard it myself). NDP has called out with long hauls for 911 jobs before as well.
All Commercial agency that I have even known in this area has had their incidences of extended responses, so let's be fair...
    To quote what you yourself said;
Regardless, I wish the best to MLSS with this contract. Time will show everyone whether or not they can handle what they got themselves into, so at least give them a chance.

There were multiple prolonged water system failures in southern Dutchess from late Thursday into late Friday. Many of the effected water districts are coterminus with Fire Districts that don't have tankers (Rombout, Village of Fishkill, City of Beacon). I believe the rationale behind Beacons request for Pleasant Valley's tanker was to keep the local tankers available for the potential adverse effects of all those alternative, non-electric light and heat sources being deployed in homes without water.

Beacon had Pleasant Valley on standby during the major incidents of multiple collapses over this past storm. I am unsure if it was related at all to lack of water from the mains due to an interruption, or more for just the guaranteed presence of a finite amount of water, hopefully someone from the Southern end can clarify.
I personally did not know about New Hamburg having a FAST, but it comes down to who deems who to have an official recognized FASTeam (at least specific to Dutchess Co.)? I have heard Arlington having been dispatched with their FAST to the City of Pok on several occasions, although it is usually a 2nd due FAST after Fairview, unless there are multiple 2nd+ Alarm assignments going on in the City.
If an IC requests a FASTeam (in Dutchess), DC911 will dispatch what, in their CAD, is considered a FAST, unless a specifically requested department is requested with their "FASTeam".
So again, it comes down to, if an IC requests a "FAST", and they know that the ones they plan on calling wouldn't be the one dispatched by 911, they specifically request whoever they want. Going back to my original question, what is it they lack that they are not in the CAD as an 'official' FASTeam?
Besides, it would be funny to think/assume that a career/combination department wouldn't have a FAST (or enough people trained to supply an adequately staffed/trained one).
Also, keep in mind that a FASTeam is not required (at least by name) by any regulation or standard out there. OSHA 1910.134 (Respiratory Protection Standard) requires such that:
    Source: http://www.osha.gov/pls/oshaweb/owadisp.show_document?p_id=12716&p_table=standards
So therefore, by name, a 'FASTeam', or 'RIT', or whatever name you refer to it by, is not required (again, being referred to as anything in particular), so long as AT LEAST 2 members are staffed outside an IDLH (atmosphere that is Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health) for any rescue effort. This team can be from the same department as the interior team, or from 2 counties away (yes, I obviously know how ridiculous that seems [and is], it is just an example), but so long as they are trained, and equipped, and prepared properly, that is what matters (as far as legalities go).
The other way to look at it (referring to a previous thread '4 in 4 or 20 in 10?' [at least the concept]), would you rather have 2 available in 5 minutes, or wait the 20+ minutes for a dedicated team????
    Just some food for though....

I have, in reading this thread, identified what I consider to be a serious problem. It seems that in the Dutchess County area there is an awful lot of misinformation regarding FAST (RIT, MAI, RIC). The basics of the requirements for FAST have to be known from top to bottom (Chief to proby) in every FD. When you pull up to a job, a FAST Plan has to be established, to follow the 2 in 2 out requirement. You are not following the rule if your plan is something like "8 in 1 out and call for a qualified FAST team who will take 20 minutes to get there.
I see too many problems in this thread to be corrected by a few paragraphs by well knowledged people in this thread. It will require some formal training for most of the Depts whose people posted in this thread. The best advice I can give you is this; If you posted in thiis thread or your dept is mentioned in this thread, your Dept may have some serious problems with FAST requirement. Note that I said MAY. I sugggest you get in touch with OFPC,State Chiefs or Dave Walsh of Dutchess CC. Show them this thread. I'm sure they can come up with something to get you squared away.
I saw that efdcapt115 edited his post because of unnecessary harshness. Sorry you did that, Cap. This thread calls for a littlle roughing the kicker and piling on.

Vinegar??? Bad choice - it will leave a residue and eventually cause corrosion. Whenever dealing with electronics, ALWAYS use isopropyl rubbing alcohol (90% is perfect). You can actually soak the laptop in it (if you really had to) and after letting it dry for a few days, it'll work fine.
Seriously, you can soak the keyboard in it for 15 minutes (take the kbd out of the computer first).
A majority of the smoke smell is going to be located within the heat sync and cooling fins on the laptop. This is where the dist accumulates - dust will absorb the smoke.
Get a can of Dust-Off and blow out every orifice of the laptop. I suggest doing this outside. Also, do NOT use a compressor - the pressure is way too high and will likely cause damage.
I'm not making this up -- I'm a Dell Certified Tech and this is based on their recommendations. Done it all before with 100% success.

Why did they have to shut down the opposite 2 lanes for a simple upright of a truck? Seems unprofessional to me and a little bit of an outdated technique. Glenns should get a bigger truck. Like the red one on the site here. Nice excavator

Well, very presumptuous (or clairvoyant) of you to assume what other Members are thinking. It seems like the Union doesn't need help discrediting themselves here. Just like in volleyball, sometimes when someone sets you, you spike it. And coming from a Union that has had 14 line of duty deaths in 10 years, with all associated expenses paid by the Union, I have no qualms about saying so.
As for the secondary debate that has evolved, in full disclosure, I think use of taxpayer funds to stock bars at volunteer stations is equally unethical and an abuse.

The money earned through paychecks is your salary, you worked hard for it, you have the right to do what you want with it... No argueement... and if everyone kicked in money from their salary, we would not be typing here. But they didn't...
In these economics times, when people are being laid off, work is slow, unemployment is high, and cities are being faced with having to cut back on employees, the union really did not think this through. Sure they have an agreement for funds to show honor to its fallen members, and the city had an unwritten rule against paying for alcohol. So use the funds for food and what ever services are needed. The union should of opted to pay for the alcohol from their own accounts. Then there would of been no problems.
Look at it from the eyes of someone who is on unemployment or food stamps, and can only get so much money each week to live on. That $ 11K or 7K is allot of money which could feed alot of hungry people.
and X635 - the last time I saw that much spent on alcohol was in college at a Frat Party, sorry, I do not get out that much anymore...

    Gentlemen,
I started this topic, because I had a hunch that there would be just a few responses. The problem is there is no game plan. It is imperative that this county and others around it get on the same page and start putting together a game plan. Volly or Paid stuff has to stop because that big train wreck is coming!!!!!!!!!!!! We need to stop using this site for bashing and use it for being proactive. It always seems that the majority of this site likes to comment on negative crap and it's getting old.
    Stay Safe

I would like to keep the ball rolling that Bobby Benz started a few weeks ago and help keep this sight for what it was intended, TRAINING!
I received an e-mail this morning from a close friend of mine who is assigned to Special Hazards 1 in Providence, RI. He has a buddy who is on the job in Belgium and was working the day of the train wreck that killed 18 people and injured many more. I normally send these e-mails out to my distribution lists, but felt this would be a great place to discuss if we are prepared for something like this happening here in the North East. Look trough the photos in the link below, especially photo #81 on. The body of the rail cars tear apart from the truck portion and ended up high in the air. Aside from stopping all rail traffic and making sure we have enough help on the way, stabilization would be our first and foremost priority before we started the evacuation and disentanglement process. What equipment do we carry on the rigs that would do the job? What resources do we have that can be called in to assist with this task? This is beyond normal wood cribbing and pneumatic equipment. Are there cranes that would be available to assist us in stabilizing and can we get them in to the location of the wreck? OK, the scenario is out there, lets see what you got! LOL

A 48 year old man masturbating over a webcam to someone whom he believed was a 15 year old girl is not as serious a crime as some are making it out to be? Please, please, tell all of us on this website that you are joking, or that you have re-thought the seriousness of this offense and have changed your mind. A 48 year old who engages a 15 year old in any kind of sexual chat or activity is a sexual predator, plain and simple.
