  1. Seems the Yonkers battalion chief made decision here that wasn't favorable to union rules or why would the union post this online. I'd say probably because brothers weren't called into staff reserve rigs. There are agreements in place and if equipment and manpower was needed that is fine, but additional resources should have been brought into Yonkers to sustain the city's acceptable staffing level. The new Rochelle Ic is in charge bottom line and Yonkers and new Rochelle have a great working relationship.
  2. Looks like a large rescue and additional trucks to there Emergency Service Unit.
  3. Is this a YFD EMS Fly car. Are there more on order?
  4. Who owns this vehicle? Who restored it? How did it get payed for? With the current situation in Yonkers, I could see the city saying call Brookfield and Junk them:( Seems like YFD has a lot of equipment outside that is usable for operations and not enough space for that stuff. Now they have a antique ladder and a pumper to store. Sounds like bad timing for these projects or the union should make some arrangements to store this equipment. There are a few large collectors upstate that will let you store and display the apparatus and you still remain owner of the equipment. Should be something someone can look into, but I am sure the above questions of ownership may complicate things. Hope they can work these issues out the job done during the restoration is a labor of love and something to be proud of for all the past and present YFD members.
  5. It is my understanding based on a phone call too a friend that the units purchased in the region were $330,000.00 but the Yonkers unit was modified to accomplish local missions as well as the UASI Task Force Mission and cost over $400,000.00. Yonkers Police ESU were the lead on this project and are forming a task force which is going to consist of YPD ESU, YFD, Empress ambulance and OEM personnel. It will be a regional as well as a national asset and should be in service end of August. They haven't received it yet and have a lot of work still ahead before it hits the streets. Hopes this answers some of the questios.
  6. RIP Doc. It was an honor and priviledge to know and work with you.
  7. The Maine unit is staffed by 2 full time officers during the boating season. A boat will be placed in the sound and staffed during holidays and special events with 2 additional officers as events dictate. The third boat is a spare and ready to go allowing other trained officers to appropriately respond to incidents as necessary. Monies for these projects are allocated years in advance through state and federal grants and becomes very complicated. With the building of the tappan zee etc they will remain to be very effective preventing and detecting crimes, educating the public and aiding in several rescues as done in the past. They have also been providing assistance to the uscg during specialized marine operations. Two thing Wcpd does very well is there aviation and marine units, they are effective and provide a great resource to the county there staffing of both units is well trained, dedicated and professional.
  8. I am sure the price had something to do with it. These cars are very inexpensive. Sorry dont see them lasting more than 2 months in Yonkers. Try hoping a curb or pulling off the shoulder on the highway. Best of luck very strong looking.
  9. It has to start somewhere. Obviously the administaration in Yonkers wants change and a good man has resigned. An outsider sometimes is not the best option vs trying something new. Hard days ahead are written clearly for the our brothers down there.
  10. This is a great opportunity to restructure City services and have a unified public safety commisissoner. Sad to see Kelb go after such a short time. Great guy bad timing.
  11. I must agree with Bull. Personalizing a situation and as simple as what the officer did was probbly the best thing that could of been done. This allowed trained rescuers to focus on the task in hand without the screaming and hurry up factor, which can become very stressfull to some. Tactics, I am notgoing to comment on, because I do not agree with what was done. NYPD was destroyed and are still being destroyed for the incident that occurred there. Airbags or simple bottle jacks are the prefered method for such a lift. It is sad to see the deterioration of law enforcement participation on this site and everyone seems to put there head in the sand when it is brought up. Looking back years ago you could be in Japan and log onto this site and know what is happening in the area. We rarely see anything out of Yonkers or Mount Vernon anymore and you know there are jobs because they are on news 12 and lohud every day. I hope all our brothers and everyone stays safe this holiday season.
  12. I believe Greenburgh Tech rescue is comprised of members of the pd and fd in Hartsdale, Fairview and Greenville, during a day tour which this occurred, mobilizing a team would not be so difficult I would imagine. I am sure someone on here can clarify there resources. They already provide coverage to Tarrytown and they provide medics as a regular response to the bridge. As for mutual aid from an agency close by. Why not have those agreements in place to at least start and provide adequate assistance to a scene. Your question about calling people in from home goes both ways. How many MRT troopers were working? where were they? did they have to come from home? As far as he NYPD the only reason they were mentioned is there experience in these types of incidents. Anyone who watches and reads the news see's them dealing with all types of protester situations. We have mutual aid agreements for jumpers and other fire related incidents that work very well on the bridge. The thruway authority workers have over extended themselves for many years assisting in many dangerous rescue situations. Members who respond to the bridge have seen them assist fire and law enforcement many times over the rail and the super structure due to there experience and comfort in dealing with heights and the dangers of the bridge and its various changing conditions due to construction. I think over time we have all assisted law enforcement when things get out of hand and thats what happened at the other incident. People working together for a common goal and a positive result so everyone goes home safely.
  13. Why does the NYS police have to fly troopers in when they can call for mutual aid from places like Greenburgh PD, Yonkers ESU, NYPD ESU, etc. All have rope rescue capabilities and if it is a law enforcement issue why not get them for support and have a unified command. The last incident the guy had a knife and the troopers had thruway authority personel handcuff the guy. Sounds crazy in these days and times. Greenburgh Tech rescue has cops and firemen on the team and are well trained. Use the cops to deal with the suspect and the rest of the team to do support. Flying people in from all over the state is ridiculous when you have local resources and a mutual aid plan that can be formed. It is done in the fire service everyday maybe the troopers can take a page from our playbook. Nice job very professionally done today, glad no emergency personel got hurt.
  14. Great job by everyone. Glad all our brothers are safe. Found this today.
