Date: 5-9-09 Time: 2310 Location: BRP Northbound at Wakefield Frequency: 484.712, 453.275, 155.310, NYPD SOD, Traffic, Aviation Units Operating: Yonkers FD B2, RESCUE 1, LADDER 73, Yonkers PD and ESU, FDNY and NYPD divers , Westchester County PD and Aviation, NYPD Aviation and ESU, Empress EMS, FDNY EMS, Accident Investigation Unit Weather Conditions: clear 60s Description Of Incident: Car left roadway and and overturned into the Bronx River. Driver extricated by FD and PD, transported to Lawrence Hospital. Search for additional victims. Reporters: oilflame, et al Writer: oilflame, et al 2314 LAD 73 reports car in the water on the ground not floating but is under the water with the drivers door pined closed unknow if people are inside, LAD 73 calling for divers. 1315 Yonkers ESU Truck 4 in the water removing the victim from the car. 2318 B2 called for rescue. NYPD Aviation requested for divers. 2320 All lanes of BRP closed between E 233rd St and Yonkers Avenue. 2323 Westchester County PD Aviation providing illumination. YFD deploying inflatable rescue boat. FD and PD members in water. Ground ladders needed to access the river due to terrain. 2335 WCPD Aviation and NYPD Aviation coordinating air operations on separate frequency. YPD 900 car requests that medevac be placed on stand-by. Aviation conducting search with thermal imaging and search light downstream and along banks of river for additional victims ejected or in water. 2336 County PD Aviation reports NYPD is going to be landing helicopter on the BRP to release the divers. NYPD Aviation can also be used for medevac if necessary. One victim already transported to Lawrence Hospital by EMS (ground) from scene in unknown condition. 2340 NYPD Air-Sea-Rescue 14 landing in Mt Vernon off Mt Vernon Avenue-McQuesten Pkwy to drop off divers. YPD 210 transporting divers to scene. NYPD ESU divers in the water commencing search. 2345 YPD ESU have a rope system in place with Officers in exposure suits to assist divers in removing additional victims if necessary. 2350 NYPD has 4 divers in the water being supported by YFD and NYPD ESU. 0030 All personnel out of water. FD and ESU taking up, divers being returned to Aviation in Mount Vernon. Scene turned over to Accident Investigation Unit. Southbound two lanes open, left lane southbound still closed for emergency vehicles. 0045 YPD transporting to members to St Johns Hospital for exposure. 0103 WCPD AIU requests tow truck to remove vehicle from river. ** All times approximate **
