  1. There were many times after an incident that I would anxiously wait for the local weekly to come out so I could see what I "said" to the reporter. Sometimes I amazed myself.
  2. Yes it is time to change the law but we must do it correctly. The fire service organizations, (FASNY, NYSAFC, Fire Districts etc) are lobbying on this. It is on their (our) legislative agenda. Until the law is changed, we need to follow the existing laws as written. We do not accepte the excuses I keep hearing, "The police have it (They got the law changed and are now leagaly folling it), It's safer (but still Illeagal), and it's that way in other states (Move your apparatus there). We are not above the law because we want to be. Change the law to fit our needs but until then DO NOT VIOLATE THE LAWS.

  21. One of my coworkers tipped me off to Scanamerica. www.scanamerica.us It breaks down by state and has online scanners. For New York they have the following. Online scanners are available for the following counties: Allegany Bronx Broome Cayuga Greene Kings Monroe Nassau New York Putnam Queens Richmond Rockland I was listening for a while tonight. They also have archived audio for each county. Thanks for the tip Fred (& Bill)
  22. Also don't forget that 40% of your ISO rating is based on municipal water supply. I'm sure that there is a good portion of the BHFD district that relys on tankers such as T-5. This is one of the biggest things that the Fd has no control over.
  23. Usually the Deputy Chiefs fall in line below the Assistant Chiefs and in front of the Company Officers
  24. And your turnout gesr will do what to protect you from smoke? There is no reason for the pump operator to be waering full PPE if he is not going to be involved in supression in any way. If he is just at his pump panel he should have a safety vest on for identification and protection. If you are operating an aerial device from teh turntable you should have your PPE on in case you have to act quickly and go up the ladder.
