You require a CDL if you drive any vehicle with air brakes, a straight truck over 26,000 GVWR which requires a class B as well you can tow up to 10,000 pounds with that. Any vehicle over 26,000 GVWR towing over 10,000 requires a class A CDL. If your truck is under 26,000 you can tow over 10,000 as long as it doesn't go over 26,000 combined truck / trailer. Anything higher requires a class A now. So in your case you are fine without one. Hope that clarifys

Would you look past this if that Chief's vehicle was delivering donations to Newtown? What if he was buying gifts to bring to a Children's Hospital here in Westchester? This is such immature, cry baby bullshit.
For the record, I don't agree with the abuse of a take home car, but since nobody knows the facts here - let's stop speculating.
FACT: Some municipalities issue take-home vehicles for all kinds of staff members, including PD, FD, DPW and management folks.
FACT: Many of these municipalities don't have rules or regulations concerning the uses of these vehicles, and frankly don't even care.
FACT: A Westchester Fire Chief in Connecticut may be closer from point A in Westchester to point B in Connecticut then if he went to another location within Westchester County.
FACT: I see police officers, fire chiefs/commissioners, EMS officers, DPW bosses and governement officials using their take home cars for all kinds of things.
FACT: I never lose sleep over any of this. Neither should any of us. The same guys who are union firefighters that will come here asking all of us to "put aside our volunteer and paid BS" to help them keep their jobs also commonly take jabs at volunteers for dumb s*** like this. You can't play it one way all the time then flip it around and not expect people to call you out on it. Does it bother anyone else that WE are all our own worst enemies?!
Does it bother anyone else that Westchester County is literally a laughingstock to fire departments (paid and volunteer) outside of this area because of our never-ending bickering and dick-measuring contests?
    Ugh!
Note: edited for grammar and layout improvement.
  7. BHFD702 liked a post in a topic by LTFIREPRG in Difference Between "Working Fire" and "Structure Fire"
The term "Structure Fire" is used to describe the type of incident/call units are responded to, i.e. report of a structure fire, dumpster fire, outside rubbish fire, vehicle fire etc...
The term "Working Fire" is used to describe a fire that is in the process of being suppressed. Typically reserved for a structure fire or an outside fire with a considerable fire/fuel load that will require additional assets/resources to mitigate.

When you first get on, it's 4 weeks of training. Then onto the platform for a few months of 1100X2300, working the same chart as the rest of us. 4 on, 4off, 4 on, 4 off, 4 on, 5 off. Then you go back for radio and Voice Alarm Training, then back out to 11X23, then Decision Dispatcher Training, then back to 11X23 until the brass says you can go to 07X19/19X07. I will tell you all now, be prepared for a commute to Downtown Brooklyn. Manhattan, Brooklyn, and SI are all located in the same building. You may or may not get the Bronx or Queens out of Probie School.
I wish you all the best of luck. But I warn you all now. If you get on, do not expect to be treated differently because you are a Volunteer whatever. Do not go into my job thinking you're going to be better than anyone else because you have experience in the fire service. I came in with that "I am a buff" attitude, and I paid for it dearly.
Do not expect special treatment because you know someone on the job. I would rather take someone who knows nothing about the fire service, or very little about the fire service, because I can mold you into what the job wants you to be. You will pay your dues, and it will make you a better dispatcher, and hopefully a better person.

In my opinion, As a Volly Chief Officer not wearing your gear is excusable... It is extremely important to be setting the example for your subordinates. I am sure If that engine pulled up and the lone firefighter, with the driver, jumped off the rig in street clothes it would not be tolerated so why is the Chief, who actually performing firefighting activities standing their in street clothes. I always wear my gear at calls because I expect everyone else to, it's as simple as that.
If you are no wearing your gear you are just an educated bystander.

Exactly what I was getting at. The guys of BH get out the door on mutual aid runs before most apparatus of whatever home department they're responding to do, mine included. They also are damn good at what they do too.

Another aerial device in Westchester. Great. Along with all the pumper tankers that have been added lately without eliminating an engine... the over redundancy in Westchester is at an all time high. The last thing Katonah needs is an aerial device. Let the boys on TL57 do what they do best.
